    just got a cd001 cheap, saw synrcrotech is releasing a carbon set cheap, considered giving it a shot before it goes in the drift missile. im thankful foe you demystifying the black magic inaide these things.

    Thanks for the explanations on how the synchros work and how to tell whether they are still good or have gone bad. Lots of videos explain how to do something but don’t take the time to show or explain how to tell when if a part is still good or bad.

    There's a company in the UK that will fusion or laser weld 3rd gear. The synchros should have a shoulder of about 1mn, these are very prone to wear.
    They can be upgraded but still not perfect. Good video 👍🏻

    • @Garage23
      @Garage23  Год назад +1

      Right the general design just isn't very good. There's also plenty of laser welding companies in the US, probably wouldn't be hard to convince one to give it a shot.

    What was the part number on the 3rd gear? The one in the description says it's discontinued

    while the price for a new CD009 has increased a bit over the last two years, does it really make any sense to rebuild rather than replace? Maybe if you count your labor as free. It doesn’t if a shop charging labor is involved.

    • @Garage23
      @Garage23  Год назад

      It usually doesn't make sense to rebuild especially if you take into account the price of parts in the US. However if you source everything from Japan there is a small margin for profit. That being said this is mainly geared toward drivers who want to repair their existing gearbox.

    just had my third split in half aswel. but you didnt explain why it was stuck and so hard to press off?

    • @Garage23
      @Garage23  2 года назад +2

      Im guessing it was because the inner portion of the gear that was cracked was binding up against the bearing

    • @jackw6795
      @jackw6795 2 года назад +1

      @@Garage23 so essentially locking it in 3rd? been learning to figure out if i can repair mine and if it would be safe to drive temporarily. if the cracked gear gets caught on the countershaft on mine, its game over?

    • @Garage23
      @Garage23  2 года назад +1

      @@jackw6795 Correct, that's why ours wouldn't spin in any other gear, it was essentially in 2 gears at once. I wouldn't recommend driving on it, if this happens while driving it will lock up the wheels and potentially put you in a ditch.

    Il like to upgrade my cd003.... do you know if the synchros or the whole 2nd gear fits like 3rd gear?

    • @Garage23
      @Garage23  2 года назад +3

      3rd gear worked between the cd009 and jk40c because they both have triple cone synchros. If second gear on the cd003 has triple cones then it might work.

    • @marinaportocaribe
      @marinaportocaribe 2 года назад +2

      @@Garage23 I think they upgraded second gear on cd009 3 vs 2 on the early models if those gears are interchangeable I'll buy a 350z project car🤞
