I pulled a g37 diff from a manual g37 for 50 dollars. To anyone who is removing the diff out, start with removing the rear half of the exhaust first. You will thank me later.
Awesome info! I noticed even with a Z1 diff cover, I'd roast my stock VLSD on track, so kept an eye open for a diff cooler. Found a unicorn package from a tracked z part-out, ended up buying Tomei LSD/3.9 FD/diff cooler, and all the stubs & axels needed for the install. And there went all the money I saved working overtime that year lol
Wow, that is quite the find. I'll dive more deeply into which gear ratio complimented my transmission and redline best. I love my 3.7, but a 3.9 or 4.08 may suit me better. I'm not sure. And definitely on the diff cooler. That's why I'm currently leaning towards helical doff because they don't get as hot as viscous or clutch type diffs.
@@_-_ttt_-_ yes, they're interchangeable. I think the Nismo is a good cover. The ones that add more capacity may not allow the diff to oil itself properly. Gale Banks did a great video on this.
I mean I watched both videos. Attention spans a little bit lacking but just wanted to confirm if you can swap gear ratios between manual and autos? I was told no but on the Z1 website I'm pretty sure that they said it might be possible
Do not take any advice from those who told you that. All differential housings on the 350Z and 370Z are the same aside from LSD vs Non and gear ratios. You can swap any rear diff into any RWD car.
Hey, awesome video series! Looking on ebay, theres a bunch of these 3.692 rear ends from 2007-2008 G's, but the cheapest are from G's with AT. I know you stated in the video that it's a pain to swap flanges, but if one were to do so how'd they go about it?
You'll need to ensure the preload on the pinion bearing is correct. The way to measure this is with a special torque wrench that can read the small amount of drag caused by having the pinion just right. There are detailed videos on how to set up a diff.
@@shangralala yeah and I'm not sure how much they'll charge. They may not agree to just swap them as that's technically not proper. You should remove the crush washer and completely replace it which requires a full disassembly. I just don't think it's worth it.
I know you said no need to change the Axel stubs. But I think some stubs have more teeth than other. Does that affect at all? I saw other videos were they said it was need to change
By now, Nissan may have made some changes to the stub axel trigger rings. As long as the number of teeth on the trigger wheels are the same, you're fine. If they're different, swap them out.
Found a g37 6mt vlsd on offer up the first day I was looking, it had been up for almost a year and he sold it to me for $40 😂 tbh I was looking for a spare to weld 🤫
I recently swapped from 5AT to 6MT in an 04 G35 coupe. My stock open differential has the 4 bolt flange for the drive shaft and the nut and bolt (non threaded) stub axle flanges. I wanted to try out the difference between 3.36 and 3.7. Primarily, I’m looking to change out the “OPEN/LSD/VLSD” for a QUAIFE type no matter what. I just want to be sure on the gear ratio before I do. From what I gather the internal offset may be different between the 5AT 3.36 casing and any of the 6MT variations. Do you have any experience with this? Are the drive shaft and/or stub axle flanges related to the casing types?
As far as I know, all the cases are the same dimensions. The only difference is the open diffs and vLSDs have different length stub axle shafts. If you have a vLSD, you'll need to cut down the axrl which is super easy. Any aftermarket diff will include instructions for this.
If I have an awd g37 can I just change the rear diff and have no issues? Or will the different gearing between the front and rear diff cause some issues

So for a 2007 AT 350 Z . A 3.69 Diff from a G35 S would work correct ?🤔
It should as long as the flanges match.
will the automatic transmission differentials work for a six-speed as long as it has the 4 bolt flange?
