I met Jimi backstage before a show in 1968. I then watched the show from the orchestra pit. I asked him to play Purple Haze, but he told me "no man, I'm so tired of playin' that". He freaked people-out! Additionally, Jimi is playing lead, rhythm, and embellishments, all the while playing bass accompaniment on the low E string (at times). There's a lot going on here. Jimi Hendrix captured my attention when I was 10 years old and I have not stopped listening to him every day. His legendary show at Monterey was in every and all media as a ' madman' that set his guitar ablaze. Jimi was so far ahead of the times with his psychedelic influenced sound, he gained immense popularity and became the highest paid performer on the planet{Jimi was scammed and struggled somewhat financially due to theft of money he earned at his shows}, he however completely changed what music is for my young pre teen mind forever. Your reactions are cute { as are you}, but in 1967 psychedelia was barely started and Jimi ( John Allen Hendrix given birth name} transformed electric guitar and music forever. He is still teaching me things about life 56 years later. Listen to "House Burning Down' for more astonishing solo playing. It is surprising how rarely that masterpiece is mentioned. He has a powerful message in those lyrics he talked about only one time I have been able to find. You had to be there when music was kind of lost and needed Jimi desperately.
Jimi wasn't ahead of his time , he was of his time and came to england on a promise made by Chas Chandler to meet Eric Clapton and form a band like Cream. Cream came first and influenced every single rock band that came afterwards including The Experience.
Hi Olavity. Loved your reaction to Jimi Hendrix super guitarist who played a right handed guitar upside down and with his teeth and behind his way ahead of his time absolutely brilliant ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
Playing guitar with teeth, playing behind the head, behind the back, and between the legs are all old bar band tricks that Hendrix learned in his early days of gigging. He was just better at it than anyone else . . . except for T-Bone Walker. Walker could play a solo behind his head while slowly doing a split to the floor. Without missing a beat. In the 1940s.
"Hey Joe"was a song that seemingly every group recorded in the 60s, or at least it seems that way. The author of the song is commonly listed as Billy Roberts, a folk singer that copyrighted the song, but there's a dispute in some circles if he alone wrote the song. The most common versions aside from Jimi's are recordings by The Leaves, Love and the Byrds, among many, many others. Jimi's version has a much slower tempo than many of the versions that were recorded (Love and the Byrds are two of my favorite bands and their "fast" versions of the song are abysmal), which he based on a version recorded by a fella named Tim Rose, another folk singer/musician. Many people talk about Jimi's prowess as a guitar player (with good reason), but a lot of the stage antics he did such as playing with his teeth and behind his head and back were old school tricks that many traveling musicians had done to wow the crowds, be it on the vaudeville stages before recorded music existed, the "chitlin' circuit" of the jazz, blues and early rock eras or the soul music revues of the early 60s. T-Bone Walker, would play behind his back, do splits, the whole nine yards; Chuck Berry had his "duck walk"; Johnny "Guitar" Watson, who was certainly an inspiration to Jimi (and any guitar player that ever heard the cat), is documented as having played his guitar with his teeth. But all of the stagecraft was likely passed down from someone else. Every musician, no matter how talented, is a thief on some level. Jimi never gets enough credit for his work as an interpreter of other songwriters. His version of Dylan's "All Along the Watchtower", considered by many, including Dylan, as the definitive version of the song is proof enough. But his versions of Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone" and "Drifter's Escape" are fantastic as well. His version of "Hey Joe" is likewise the definitive version of the song now. And his version of "Catfish Blues" is my favorite version of that old blues standard. Jimi was a giant in so many ways. May he forever be heard. One of my favorite bits of Jimi video is his performance on the Lulu show on the BBC in 1969. He and the Experience performed "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)", a truncated version of "Hey Joe" (which includes a nifty little nod to the Beatles' "I Feel Fine") and a tribute to the band Cream, that had recently broken up, an instrumental version of their tune, "Sunshine of Your Love".
With Jimi you always had the feeling that the guitar was part of his body. That and his perfect pitch made him the best guitarist of all time. A talent like this is probably only born once in 100 years... And... you kids are so cute when you're surprised with things like that. Most of the good songs have been composed long ago. In some cases, centuries ago. You wouldn't believe how many metal guitarists were inspired by Johann Sebastian Bach...
Yep I took private music lessons on 5 different instruments over 14 years from 1965 to 1978 growing up. I took saxophone studies with The Royal Academy of Music {Canada} which was a lot of classical music accompanied by piano. Along the way I fell in love with progressive rock where there's a lot of classical music influences with British Bands like; Yes, The Zombies, Early Genesis, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Argent, King Crimson, Gentle Giant, The Pretty Things......🎶🫴🕊
Stevie Ray Vaugh is another guitarist from the 80s and 90s that will blow your mind. His singing is amazing also. The song, Texas Flood live at the El Mocabo is widely reacted to and loved by many!! He admired Jimi greatly and played several of his songs. And his swag is also out of this world!!!
Obviously not in the same class but Ally Venable is from Texas and she took up the guitar after hearing SRV and she also plays behind her back and is influenced by Hendrix too. She does a SRV tribute instrumental and has covered a couple of his songs. It just goes to show Hendrix and SRV influence lives on as she's only 24. I am sure she's not alone but she comes to mind.
Jimi is my favorite musician of all time, I'm so happy that I finally get to see him play live, when I was young in the 60-70s it was impossible where I lived✌
Hi Ola, Thank you for your reaction video. Isn't Jimi Hendrix fascinating? Years ago, when I had just started learning to play guitar, my more-experienced guitar-playing sister told me that I needed to investigate an amazing guitarist named Jimi Hendrix, who could play with his teeth, & eventually I got to see films and videos of Jimi perforrming (He was still alive then). Jimi was so exciting to watch! Jimi had learned how to play the guitar with his teeth, which is very difficult and uncomfortable to do!
Pretty wild huh?definitely an innovator with a ton of talent.some other songs to consider, crosstown traffic, foxy lady, stone free, the wind cries mary, and little wing which is a chill blues tune.Have fun exploring
Although he was American, he got his start in England. This was his first big U.S. show (Monterey Pop Festival 1967). After losing an argument with the Who's Pete Townsend about which act was going to play first (neither wanted to follow the other), Hendrix said "if I'm following you, I'm pulling out all of the stops". The show ended with him setting his guitar on fire while it was still plugged in.
Nobody, and i mean nobody comes close to Jimi Hendrix ! When asked when he was living in Handel's house in London what he thought of Handel, his reply was not much , but i dig a bit Bach ! Jimi, the coolist cat ever !
Two thoughts...Jimi's outfit was inspired by Little Richard and the fashion of London's Carnaby Street and It's easier to play behind your back than it is to play with your teeth(Jimi learned to do both when he toured as a backing musician in the south of the USA).
Ok, you sold me, I have subscribed after seeing all the bands that I love in your reactions. Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and others and, of course, Jimi Hendrix. I love you reacting to these bands and musicians for the first time! Oh BTW, Hendrix also plays guitar behind his back.
Can you imagine what it was like to see Jimi Hendrix and The Experience live? I did that more than once. Jimi was ten blocks up the street from all other musical artists. He was on a different level completely musically. It looks so effortless, yes? Jimi and his guitar were one. He could even make the guitar speak. So proficient with the guitar that playing was really no longer an issue. The music went straight from Jimi over the guitar completely effortlessly. Astonishing, phenomenal, and simply beyond words. Genius then, genius now. Next one to watch? Jimi Hendrix Johnny B Goode, Berkeley. Prepare to be mind blown. By the way.....Jimi could play guitar with his teeth, behind his back, over his head, and between his legs. These tricks learned from other artists around Seattle seen at gigs in his youth. Seen all of these tricks, so verified. Plus he could play guitar right handed too. Genius, genius!
not only is he playing with his teeth while chewing gum and behind his head but he's burning playing great solos while doing it...1967 people were in shock.
I saw him play at Denver Pop festival in a Baseball Stadium. Hard to believe but, I also saw him on the University of Oklahoma campus in a basketball size gymnasium. He gave just a few days notice, and it wasn't the full production, but it was clear his guitar was lead + rhythm + percussion. Lotta sound coming out of that man.
Hi Ola great reaction. Now you have to react to (SRV) Stevie Ray Vaughan Experience! *"Texas Flood"* (Live at the El Mocambo) because he's playing behind his back like Jimi did
Jimi was your favortite guitar player's favorite guitar player. Jimi was unworldy. He is in heaven, passing God a dooby and showing how play that guitar.
Jimi played in the "Chitlins Circuit" in southern USA. If you couldn't do something cool like play with your teeth the costumers would throw bottles at you. But this wasn't a new thing. It was new to huge shows like Monterey Pot Festival. Janus Joplin had herself made a star at this gig. Jimi sacrifices his guitar as he closes of his show. Lighting it on fire to "Wild Thing".
How is this possible? Can't believe it? Can't believe it, yes? THIS IS JIMI HENDRIX!!!!! THE IMPOSSIBLE MADE POSSIBLE ON GUITAR!!!!! Jimi is playing rhythm and melody BOTH AT THE SAME TIME!!!!!
THE MAN THE MYTH, THE LEGEND LOVED THE VID.
Just found your channel, I love your smile and your genuine reactions! Cheers from San Diego, California!
@@mrnobody3161 You didn't mention Jethro Tull...
A 4 year career but still rules the world jimi the legend
Hi ! Valleys of neptune!!
I'm sure ygat you've heard this many times but you are BEAUTIFUL!!
Jimi Hendrix at his peak was Live at Woodstock is pure fire! Well worth watching start to finish.
Don't forget he was tripping his brains out too lol the goat
Nobody, and i mean nobody comes close to Jimi Hendrix ! When asked when he was living in Handel's house in London what he thought of Handel, his reply was not much , but i dig a bit Bach ! Jimi, the coolist cat ever !
And that , is why Jimi is one of the best !!
Yep! Jimi was a genius, unique, and a true musical legend 🎸 🎶
He innovated so many things on the guitar.
Great reaction. Another great guitarist was Stevie Ray Vaughan.❤
Pure talent.......the best guitar ever!!!!!
not only is he playing with his teeth while chewing gum and behind his head but he's burning playing great solos while doing it...1967 people were in shock.
Nice 🔥
He is good w/his teeth also.
Jimi was a showman par excellance!!!!
Just listen to it one more time the lyrics are pretty direct !
Coolest cat ever he's the goat
A True Master...
Queenstyche/eyes of a stranger...they will blow your mind away...
R.I.P.JIMI LEFT US TO SOON.
beautiful cats jimi hendrix have he own sceneshow
You young lady are so cool, sweet and hip. Jimi was the man, a guitar monster, GOAT
I'm related to Jimi through Cherokee Indian mixed blood totally awesome 👍😎
hey baby girl look it up this was done like over 55 years ago...smiles to you
His voice though, grounding male and deep.
Loved your reaction!!!
I was in Woodstock in 1969....500k people there, completely insane. He did played with his upper teeth.
Jimmy chewing gum and LSD all at once while riffing and singing on stage the one and only J>H Experience
JIMI best ever RIP
Jimi played in the "Chitlins Circuit" in southern USA. If you couldn't do something cool like play with your teeth the costumers would throw bottles at you. But this wasn't a new thing. It was new to huge shows like Monterey Pot Festival. Janus Joplin had herself made a star at this gig. Jimi sacrifices his guitar as he closes of his show. Lighting it on fire to "Wild Thing".
THE GOAT....Please check out his version of Johnny B Good.
Great Reaction
How is this possible? Can't believe it? Can't believe it, yes? THIS IS JIMI HENDRIX!!!!! THE IMPOSSIBLE MADE POSSIBLE ON GUITAR!!!!! Jimi is playing rhythm and melody BOTH AT THE SAME TIME!!!!! Jimi phenomenal. Don't forget Mitch Mitchell (drums) and Noel Redding (bass) who made this incredibly special too. Glad you found the Guitar God. Saw him live more than once. Confirmed, genius. Now watch Johnny B Goode, Berkeley. Prepare to be blown away to the stars.
Also another great guitarist known for his amazing Fender Stratocaster playing is Robin Trower, do Bridge of Sighs and see what I mean. Blues Rock with a psychedelic undertone, full of power, skill and glory. 🎸
omg styled like our generation and culture
Welcome to Hendrix
Type in "Randy Hansen Hey Joe" and watch him play with his mouth he plays it like its his fingers its CRAZY
AND THIS WAS IN ( 67 ) OLAV SO, YUPPPPPPPPP!!! 😊PSYCHEDELIC AND BLUES ROCK PRETTY MUCH GIRL!😊 PURPLE HAZE, FOXY LADY, ALL ALONG THE WATCHTOWER, ENJOYYYY!
Besides with his teeth. He would play his guitar 🎸 behind his back and also light his guitar 🎸 on Fire 🔥 🔥 📛 at the End of his set!!! Listen to Purple Haze, All Aong rhe Watchtower. Fire and Foxy Lady for starters. He has so many great songs. James Marshall Hendrix)Jimi Hendrix) He died young at 27.
Everithing all other guitarrists do in your instruments, Jimi did first. He was a fenomenal artist. Simply the best. Thanks for reacting to him 👏👏👏 (sorry about my English, I'm Brazilian)
The Animals bass player helped him also he help them to the states
Well sweetheart that's why he was the greatest guitarist ever
Listening to Jimi, All along the watchtower is a must. His version of Bob Dylans All along the watchtower is epic. watch that too. The first time Jimi toured London Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page saw him plasy. He changed the eurpean mosic foreverer
Hi Ola He was pretty incredible he part of the 27 club that's the age he died drug overdoses.
Stevie Rayvon really loved Hendrix you might have done some reactions to his music he played with his mouth behind the back anyway it was a great reaction can't for the next ❤.
Don’t do it joe! Leave her to the streets😂😂
This song is actually an older golf song from another guitarist. Hendrix made it his own. Also hendrix has big library of songs . And to think that he died at 27.
Nice necklace‼ 😍
Yes way.
One day soon you should react to ' Eddie Van Halen -Live without a net ' Guitar solo & watch the Wizard attack the guitar like no other. and fyi Jimi used his teeth for the 1st solo 🎸
He was probably the greatest guitar player of rock history…..he chewed gum…sang….played the guitar with his mouth….behind his back…..all at the same time….popular with female fans
He was a great musician. RIP brother. Another great is Jeff Healy. If you haven't seen him I won't tell. Another is Stevy Ray Vaughn.
