You do realize in the lyrics Jimi is having a conversation with Joe. Concerning the playing with the teeth, from what I've read, Jimi picked that up down South while playing the clubs down there (the Chitlin circuit?) earlier in his career.

Oh for goodness sake... Telling a story isn't the same thing as condoning something! Bohemian Rhapsody is about a murderer, funny how people don't get offended about that one. Downvoted for tiresome neo-liberal outrage. This guy did more to advance civil rights as a musician and artist than you and I and everyone watching this video ever will.

Teeth not tongue, and at the end of the concert he Sacrificed his Guitar .. Something he loved so much, lighting it ablaze and smashing it.... Lighter fluid and a match or two ... Janis Joplin also had her big brake at this event.

He's playing with his teeth , And he didn't invent it however he did make it famous. He really invented the rock style of playing the guitar that is just normal today. Before Jimi you had The Beatles and Bob Dylan. You should check out , Machine gun live filmore east , Hear my train acoustic, Have you ever been ( Studio version )
Also he didn't right this song it's not his it's just a cover, Jimi LOVED women maybe a bit too much hehe :)

Hendrix and The Who were arguing back stage " I'm not gonna follow ! Well I'm not gonna follow you!! ". So Hendrix stood up on a chair and played a crazy lick on the 🎸 . And said " If I'm going first , I'm pulling out all the stops !!!". He left the crowd with their mouth hanging open by the end of his show. They have never seen anything like him. And til this day , no one is like him.

This reminds me of what happened backstage @ the 1964 TAMI Tv show. It was basically between Mick jagger & James Brown. Neither one wanted to go on last due to how over the top both singers were. Watching the performance more than once and I still believe one as out of sight as the other.

No Jimi was not the first to play the guitar with his teeth. He learned this from artists at gigs around Seattle. He also learned playing the guitar over his head, behind his back, and between his legs. But look at that guitar. It is a standard right handed stratocaster turned upside down and strung to play left handed, which means that the stringing is in reverse too. Seen by me live more than once. One word: Genius!

It definitely took some ingenuity and talent to learn that way for himself, let alone MASTER his style like he did. Obviously this was before all the information and resources we have now with the internet...he learned the hard way. That took some work and a serious level of drive to pull off what he did.

Mitch did yeah, he was on par with great Jazz drummers like Elvin Jones, but Noel, he was more or less replaceable. That's why Jimi let his ass go and brought in Billy Cox, who was better, had a funkier sound. Noel was a whiner, always bitching about something, and I guess Jimi got tired of him.

One of the most prolific guitar players of all time. What you didn't notice was that he not just played left handed, but it was on a right handed guitar. He, as far as I know was the first to perform his "feats" with the guitar & not miss a note or lose the tempo. Others have emulated his style over the years. As for the choice of song, he sang from reality & like it or not it still exists. Unfortunately for those of us that grew up during this time, he is missed. He died of a drug overdose at 27.

2:18 Although it may seem like it, at that moment, Jimmy is not making any obscene gesture. In fact, he is indicating to a sector of the crowd that the solo that comes next is going to be executed with his tongue. It was something that he had done on previous occasions and that his fans demanded it from him...
Ohhh...I´m missing... That gum he's apparently chewing is most likely a slip of LSD.

Jimi didn't write the song. It was written by Billy Roberts about 3 years before Jimi recorded it. As the lyrics go, Joe is being asked about shooting his "ol' lady", and what is he going to do now? It wasn't condoning violence on women, telling a violent story.

Per east coast musician, Tim Rose, the song Hey Joe, which Billy Roberts got published by claiming to have written it, had already existed years before as a folk song called Blue Steel 44. Before Hendrix recorded the song, the Byrd's version of Hey Joe on their Fifth Dimension album had the lyric "Gonna Buy Me A Blue Steel 44" which may have been based on the allegedly earlier version of the song.

    He's playing a right-handed
    stratocaster guitar--left-handed.
    It's upside down because the
    volume/tone controls are above
    the strings--instead of below...
(Have to do that to play left--
    handed).

  • @HellenKillerProject
    @HellenKillerProject Месяц назад

Jimi preferred playing left handed. He could play right handed and left handed without flipping the strings if he needed. Another guitar player found Jimi playing his guitar as a righty and he said something to Jimi. So Jimi never missed a note and flipped the guitar over and used it upside down righty style. Jimi never learned to read music and carried a little real to real everywhere. Only 3 studio albums but they still find stuff he did in random places. He also built a studio, Electric Lady studios and you might know of it. It is still running.

Though, as another viewer touched on, Jimi has said that he first saw other black guitarists having a go at playing the guitar with their teeth, I'm not aware of how well or consistent any of those other guitarists were at playing with their teeth. So, Jimi may possibly have been the first to have been well-skilled at playing the guitar with his teeth.

Hello, I don’t know what name to call you yet (Gooble’s fine with me!), but thank you for your reaction. I think one should not _enjoy_ a song like this, but gain from the story. I agree that on hearing songs of tragedy, we should not be entertained. It’s a very sad song, but we hear such songs (in any genre) in order to gain empathy and/or understanding of a character, and find some inner peace through our shared sadness.
I think whole genres of song are meant to help us find joy _indirectly_from stories of evil deeds or deep pain. A favorite example is the Rolling Stones’ “Paint it Black,” a song of mourning that soothes by drawing out our empathy or sympathy.
A different note: I strongly urge you to always repeat several seconds of a recording after each pause. This is _far_ better for listeners, for whom each pause feels very abrupt. It helps us experience a song in a less broken fashion. Look at some others’ reactions, if you like, to understand that response. I suggest you go back around 5-7 seconds or more each time, as you see fit.
Oh, and please say your name at the start of each video! Commenters prefer, generally, to address you more personally than to use a moniker. Best wishes!

Jimi was playing the guitar solo with his teeth, my girl. The tongue is considered the strongest muscle in the body, but it is not strong enough to get a clear tone on the guitar. Plus, the tone would be softer if that were the case.

There is a video where the the writer, Billy Roberts, illuminates the type of person Joe is..trigger warning for you the original lyrics are more graphic than the published version. Jimi toured the "Chitlin Circuit" with the likes of Little Richard (and others) where black musicians played in segregated settings. The "Capitol" was Memphis and the guitarist would compete playing with their teeth, as well as other unconventional but highly skilled and entertaining methods. Before the show, Jimi reportedly took acid prior to going on stage. . Acid back then had a lot of speed, chewing gum mitigated any stuttering side effect (Roger Dawltrey, The WHO, simulated that side effect when he performance"My Generation"). Speaking of The WHO, neither Jimi nor The WHO wanted to be the band that followed the other band's act. They flipped a coin, Jimi lost and had to follow The WHO. He told them he was going to "pull out the stops" in his performance
