Benefit described. At one point in my life, I was on an island for 6 months. No motorized transport. Had to walk every where. Had only heavy boots. After a couple of months, life was much easier. Took 2 months of wearing boots. Now I am in my late 70s. Was having shortness of breath. Had to pause ever so often. Went back to wearing heavy work boots on a nightly walk. Shortness of breath passed in two months. Wear the boots all day and then on the same walk at night. It works.
I can sometimes wake up in a very dark mood without any particular reason. My morning walks with Dave always seem to cheer me up. I’ve been walking with the podcast for about one week now (started at no 1 while sitting at my hobby desk, it wasn’t until December 2021 it became clear to be I had to join the walks, I first listened to get motivated🙈). Because I have a lot of catching up to do, I need about 4 to 5 episodes to get me through my walk. So slowly slowly I will eventually arrive in 2024! Love the company and although you say the podcast is not meant to be motivating or inspiring, well… it’s just doing that for me! Dave also answers the questions I send him through email, so although living at the other end of the globe (Belgium) I got me a new best friend😂. Tell you something … today I had my walk accompanied by my husband and it wasn’t half as entertaining as with Dave 🤭😂🤷🏼♀️
My current streak is 105 days, 6000 step minimum and a 9000 step average. I'm 68, its changed my life along with switching from muffins and carbs to a very healthy bowl of oatmeal fruit and nuts in the morning.
This is true. I have hypertension. It’s insane my blood pressure was 189/107 earlier today. I panicked turned on RUclips and walked 2 miles at home took my blood pressure 2 hours after working out and it dropped significantly 126/84 I’m going to try my best and be consistent. Tomorrow I will definitely walk outside. I refuse to take meds.
Oh my!! As you know, high blood pressure should never be taken lightly. While I understand the motivation to stay off meds, I hope you’re talking with a doctor.
Hi Dave, I was listening to the podcast episode Battling The Excuses, and everything you mentioned are thoughts almost ad verbatim that go through my mind. I'm getting better at silencing the excuses though, while creating my walking habit. Thank you for the daily therapy, and friendly walking session. I'm now doing two and sometimes three ten minutes walks a day, all thanks to you. You rock!😀 Kamal.
I am in my early sixties and obese, I’ve just managed to go over 10,000 steps per day over the last 12 months, I still don’t lose weight but I feel much better and happier.
If you are trying to lose weight, you should take measurements to compare. I was at a peak in weight and although I wasn't losing weight, I lost inches in waist and hips.
The person you mentioned who got off of blood pressure & statin meds - I have a friend who hasn't been walking all that long, and only does a mile a day, but she was able to do the same thing. I'm not on either of those, and I'm in my mid-60's. I'm sure walking is part of that (daily for about 5 years), but diet is as well.
Hi Dave, Regarding you catching a cold after your big run, yes, that happens. On the Tour de France, those super-fit, professional bike riders are always coming down with things. They are so vulnerable to germs when they're at the edge of their strength like that. This surprised me hugely when I first learned it.
I've had a terrible cold for over a week and have not done my usual daily dog walk. I feel my mood go down, perhaps partly due to feeling bad. But that walk always makes me feel happier. Got to get back to it.
I think my heart palpitations and discomfort have ended since I made daily walking a priority and now managing to average over 12k steps a day. 73 days now and every day is a new personal record
Walking is my favorite healthy activity to do. I like other things too like HIIT, jumping to touch the rim, and shoot basketballs. But walking is king.
I think everyone needs some alone time, whether they think they do or not. Time to think without other noises and people to distract you. Or just relax, even when walking.
Great question. If it’s not dangerous I enjoy the adventure. Otherwise, I’ll walk inside. That could be on a treadmill or simply walking around the house.
Having a step tracker and daily goal was a huge help at the beginning for me. It doesn’t work for everyone, but it was great motivation for me to walk every day.
19,000 steps a day? is thar about 10 miles? that would take about 3 or 4 hours i think. that would be a challange i try to walk about an hour on a good day that is almost 3 miles i think . antway thanks more power to you.... i hope to try harder
The only time I get solitude while walking is when I go to the backcountry trails. Otherwise in my neighborhood everyone wants to stop and talk with me.
Crazy to think something so simple can be so beneficial
Thanks for watching Andrew!!
Not really - exercise is exercise, and we all need to get some, if possible.
Best ideas are usually simple, and geniuses simply everything

I’m honored you listen and I love your encouraging email questions!
I’ve realised walking/hiking in nature has always been one of my top 3 favourite things to do.
I also love walking in nature!

I was surprised too when it happened to me and I’m not even close to the level of these incredible athletes

I love the solitude of walking! Thank you for watching

Always ❤
Thank you
Believe it or not....walking at a moderately fast pace for between 3 and 5 miles daily removes pain in my gallbladder
That’s so good to know. Thanks for watching!
I just started walking everyday about 2 weeks ago. How do you deal with inclement weather?
Great question. If it’s not dangerous I enjoy the adventure. Otherwise, I’ll walk inside. That could be on a treadmill or simply walking around the house.
Do you find a step counter watch helps?

You’re doing great!!
Those of us who walk NATURALLY take better care of ourselves…
Walking is a great way to invest in your health!
The only time I get solitude while walking is when I go to the backcountry trails. Otherwise in my neighborhood everyone wants to stop and talk with me.
Sounds like your neighbors love you!
I agree to recharge
Thanks for watching!!
What path to take? How many steps? Walking is life and life is walking. When walking stops, life ends. When life ends, walking stops.
Thank you for watching!
* Walk along palm trees just before dawn must be stress busting.
It sure is!
What is your opinion about walking with Nordic Walking Sticks ?🤔
The can supersize a walk and make it a full body workout
🥀🚶♀️🥀
Walk every day. 11,500 steps. 19,000 amazing.
11,500 steps a day is awesome!!
@@WalkingisFitness thanks. Great videos.
