I totally feel you about the first con. I started nursing school with the sole purpose of becoming an aesthetic nurse and I feel guilty because most of my classmates want to save people’s lives in the ED or ICU and I just want to work in a med spa. But I’m obsessed with aesthetics and skincare and I feel like I shouldn’t force myself to do something I know I wouldn’t enjoy just because it’s needed.

Amy, aesthetic nursing may not be 'essential' to life but I think for alot of people your job is essential to their mental health/happiness...something as little as Botox injections every 3 months, some fillers, sun damage spot removal, etc...can do wonders for a woman's or man's mental health/happiness. I could be wrong tho...I'm a Critical Care RN/Life Flight Nurse and that's all I've ever done or known so all the above mentioned is my two cents worth of personal opinion. Happy that you found something you are passionate about. We all need that.

Hi Amy! I’m taking classes in august to begin my career in aesthetics. I think the breaking point for me for bedside nursing is taking care of people who don’t want to get better/don’t take care of themselves. It just doesn’t make me happy. I believe that treating people who want to better themselves is the route for me.

Nursing wasn’t my first career choice. But I am forever grateful for everything and everyone I’ve met and learned from along the way. I just know that aesthetics might be my niche in life. I already have things planned and in the works to make this special not only for myself but for my future clients.

You don’t have to work in a hospital as a new grad. It’s good for experience and time management, but if you don’t plan on doing it, no need. I wish I had known this and embraced it. I’ve worked at a job that drains me for 3 years. There have been some good times, but I wish I would have gone straight into aesthetics or something more appealing to begin with.

    Hi Amy,
I’m currently working in critical care and looking to get out ASAP. I have an interview at a plastic surgery office today actually 😄. Please don’t feel guilty. Hospital nursing is very hard right now, but it’s not the fault of nurses who work in different areas. Tons are leaving because hospitals are demanding more of us and the work is so stressful. I’m so glad that you work in a field that you enjoy. Hopefully in a few weeks I will be able to say the same.

I left bedside recently and become full time at a med-spa with full medical, dental, and visions. My workplace offers great selection of Anthem Blue-cross options which I thought is pretty legit. They also have 401k if I work more than 1000 hours which can be equivalent to a year of commitment staying at the company. I love my job and I do make as much as bedside when I was doing nights where I was at or even more if I make good tips that day. My recommendation is do a good research on the company that you are looking at and plus how many clients day have a day, instead of switching from bedside to med-spa immediately, i would do part time first at medspa if they do offer minimum 2-3 days a week to feel the clients they get and if the place is always busy. I usually don’t complain about back to back and being booked for 1-2 months because that indicates that the company does have a stable numbers of clients coming in and you won’t be sitting around doing nothing or don’t get called in for work. The more you see clients the higher tips/commission you can make. Real nurse or not, as long as my job pays off my bills, students loans, and my coffee. I mean I do make relatively the same amount or more then I don’t see why I need to become more stress and get paid the same lol. Don’t get me wrong, being a bedside nurse is a true calling and I do RESPECT bedside nurses for what they do because it is not easy. At the end of the day, everyone has their ways of living their lives and how they want to live it. Do what makes you happy. All RNs and nursing students took or will take the same exam so called the NCLEX. We are all real nurses here no matter where you work. As long as the workplace uses your RN license to perform tasks and responsibilities, YOU ARE A NURSE.

I am asking from Canada. In my province, we are not allowed to accept tips because of the ethics behind it. It can legally be seen as a under-handed deal. I recently went to a seminar with the legalities of aesthetic nursing in Canada. Specifically regarding fillers and Botox. We are not allowed to charge more than the cost of Botox, we cannot offer deals, advertisements, or use of our title “nurse” with skills that are considered non-nursing. So laser therapy, which can be completed by a medical aesthetic practitioner. I was wondering how this works in your area? Thank you so much the most informative video.

@@kallibanks8418 I applied for a corporate medspa on indeed and within a month they got back to me. No prior nursing experience in aesthetics. You want to add all of your work history on the resume. Many big chain medspas train their nurses in house. It’s usually when you look for a job at a private practice that they ask you for experience. When you work for a corporate medspa there are standardize protocols in place, and their in house training based on the services offered. I also tell nurses trying to get in to aesthetics to go the corporate route and apply for part time positions to see if this is really your calling. With that said apply everywhere, you may find a private practice that is will to train a new grad. Wishing you good luck on your aesthetic journey :)

I think with the increase in popularity, there’s an increase in people learning about the treatments and trying them out. Botox used to be for mostly older patients and now I treat mostly 18-25 year olds more than anything. It’s a growing industry all around in my experience.

mmm until we are billed as income earners not as couches there's no incentive for anything to change inpatient. def try to release the guilt. the reason the majority of nurses aren't at bedside is because they are done being in... insert many adjectives environment! it's a smart decision. and take care of yourself and make sure your family members do to because if anyone needs that care... it isn't a good time to receive it. ha.
