I love the riff in this Smiths’ song; one of Johnny’s finest. Great rendition on your new Rickenbacker, Headless. I hope you continue working your way through The Smiths’ songbook.
Been working on this one the past week with a multitude of videos including your old one, but this one blows the rest of them out of the water! Thankfully have the intro down just like you do, but the verses need some touching up. This video is going to be majorly helpful in fine-tuning it. Thank you so much and great work!
The two dislikes were Johnny Marr and Morrissey. Johnny, because you gave away his hidden secrets. And, Morrissey, because you didn't pay him any royalties.
Again, great video, looking forward to more! I'm wondering -- when you play a song like this, with a lot of single note licks, do you put any extra effort into muting the rest of the strings? I can kinda play along the tab you posted, but focusing on muting the other strings is too much for me right now. So they sort of vibrate along the strings that are played (I don't actually pluck them myself, of course) and make it sound a bit messy if you listen close. Do you palm mute when picking the higher strings?
There's a combination of right and left hand muting happening all through this. String muting technique is often quite personal to the player. Basically you just have to figure out the best way that works for you.
what you're playing does not match the tablature.. e.g on the second bar you're playing frets 3/2/3 on the D/G/E strings, on the fourth bar you're also playing the D string after the 3 on the A i guess this song is cursed to never have a proper tutorial
If you watch/listen to Marr play this live, his picking is not consistent either over that Bbmaj13 chord given the speed of the song so I wouldnt worry too much about that. Its more important to get the feel right. However, you are free to propose an amend or update the tab on Ultimate Guitar yourself: tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/tab/the-smiths/girl-afraid-guitar-pro-3351386. Also - I dont get paid for any of this, it's just offered out free to the guitar playing community. If you dont believe it is bob on enough I would suggest doing your own tutorial video to help cracking the Johnny Marr code :)
@@HeadlessGuitarPlayer i understand, what you play sounds fine (probably the best rendition out there), it just would be good if the tablature matched what you're playing.. it's frustrating for someone trying to follow your playing and sounding off, not knowing what they're doing wrong - especially with this song that has 100 different variations none of which is 100% there (hence my disappointment, sorry if it sounded offensive)
I got a rush of some cosmic inspiration at 3 am and stayed up learning this thing until morning :D
Great lesson, loved it
😂🎉
Now this is impressive mate... i can’t even imagine how your right hand was after recording this! 😄😄
Thanks. Key thing is to try to really relax the hand while playing. If you can do that, it's not so bad.
Terrific lesson as always. I hope you do them all! Your videos are a wonderful resource for people trying to learn these intricate songs.
Glad you like them!

There is a light that never goes out! And panic! But there's too many to name.

Thanks, appreciate that!
Such a skill. Very jealous. Great song as well - I've been listen g to Girl Afraid for 21 years now. Never grows old.
Thanks. Yeah the first minute in particular is a reference point for the early Marr style.
Excellent rendition and skills. Wish I could play like that!
Thank you very much!
Subscribed on the strength of this, totally amazing.
Amazing!! The new definitive lesson
Thanks mate appreciate that. Its my best effort at least...for the time being :)
This is the song I would most like to be able to play by the smiths but sadly I’m a long way off! Well done headless
This is a very efficient way to play this, as on stage. I can see the variations from the album version. Nice, I like it.

And, Morrissey, because you didn't pay him any royalties.
RUclips will be paying them both via the publisher as will Ultimate Guitar but doubt with this many views they’d notice :)
Please do a tutorial on You Just Haven't Earned It Yet Baby by The Smiths whenever possible. Thank You

A bastard to play properly , brilliant stuff
At one point the sound changes but you keep the switch in the same place. Some effect?
Who thumbed down this? I think Marr would struggle to play this now
Downvoting has already begun on my Jazz Chorus vid. Only been uploaded a day. Jeez.
