They just went toe to toe with a legitimate playoff contender who they faced just 8 months ago, and they beat them again despite their best receiving options being limited by the defense. The front 7 of the D needs to get a lot more pressure without stunts. If Hutch is the only one putting pressure on QBs in 7 on 7 play, we are gonna have problems in the secondary again because they are going to be exhausted by half-time.

    • @jonbradshaw1933
      @jonbradshaw1933 4 месяца назад +3

      I don't think you watched the game. They were getting plenty of pressure outside of Hutch. Levi had 5 QB pressures, Davenport had 6, the team had 27 total and only 11 came from Hutch. That means we'll over half the pressures came from other than Hutchinson. It was just obvious Stafford had a gameplan of getting the ball out super quick.

    I thought that the Lions looked a little flat offensively, and the Rams relied on Stafford to pick on the Detroit D with short passing routes. I believe that the starters not playing during the pre-season may be at least partly the reason for the sluggish start. The Lions now have a winning culture under Dan Campbell and were able to do what they needed to do to come away with a W. I think that the team will really get rolling as the season progresses.

      Funny that everybody keeps saying the Rams defense was out of gas, when Detroits defense was out there much longer since time of possession was Rams almost 35 minutes and the Lions just over 25 minutes during regulation, the Rams never had the ball in overtime, and still had the ball longer than the Lions, if anything the Rams should have had the advantage over a exhausted Lions defense towards the end of the 4th quarter and got some first downs to seal the game, but the Lions have grit.

    • @woodsplitter3274
      @woodsplitter3274 4 месяца назад +1

      @@Michael-Joseph123 That's a good point about time of possession, but The Lions were quicker off the snap and pushing the D-line back.
      If The Rams weren't running on fumes, perhaps they were thinking about missing the three hour flight back to LA.
      I'm not an expert on football, but the one thing that I notice about The Lions over the last few years is much better blocking, not just at the line of scrimmage, but downfield in particular. It turns an 8 yard play into 18 yards or six points.
      Go Lions!

    They had me there the second half. Dont know why during the second half the Lions stopped and went away with what was already working. Which was running the ball. Passing the ball on 3rd and 2 for an incomplete or a pick whereas we could've run the ball for a guaranteed 1st down. A lot of rust and quirks to work out on the offense other than that glad they won regardless. It's going to be a hard year for our offense this year because defenses now are going to be scheming for plays and watching film on St. Brown, Laporta, and Jahmyr the reach Gibbs, who I'd say isn't a reach anymore. Plenty of film on those guys but not a lot or any on Williams. Which is our advantage.

    Lions quarterback is not a superlative quarterback. He is as good as he has ever been. And he seems to be getting better. The advantage he has is he now has the makings of a superlative team. And as long as he does his job and he has a good quarterback to back him. And if he should find that next superlative level, where he could stand toe-to-toe with Stafford and Stafford was equal to any quarterback that has ever played the game remember the Stafford is almost a direct reflection of Bobby layne. They even went to the same High School. All of the Lions problems can be pointed to one issue was their management for decades. Now that they have a management that understands that you can't just put a couple of star players on the field and expect to win. I literally stood in a room with Bill Ford Jr when he said that he didn't spend any extra money on the team because every game is sold out he can't make any more money, doesn't matter whether they win or lose. That is the attitude that Bill Ford Jr had. That's precisely the problem the Lions have had since they got rid of Bobby Layne for God's sakes. They had a great start with Stafford and megatron. But they didn't complete the team they still didn't have an offensive line that could protect the quarterback long enough to be able to do what a quarterback needs to do. Even a second string quarterback can play well when he's protected. And they refused to put that line up in front of them. Now that they have one. They have a pretty good quarterback let's see if the team could pull it through. Maybe Derek will learn a few things. And up his game that next level that really needs to be there

    I don't know what game you were watching, but the Lions, before overtime, had only run 53 plays vs. the Rams 74. The defense was great, but we can't rely on that every game. With defenses realizing Saint is the guy you have to stop, JaMo should have had the kind of game he had. But where was Kalif, besides running end arounds? We desperately need him to step up, because otherwise Saint is going to be bracketed like he was EVERY game. Yeah, we won. But the offense can't be stagnant for two quarters if we want to be an elite team. Dan Campbell agrees. Lot of things to clean up.

      I think the lions would have done better than the Rams did if they would have lost the coin toss. 1. the Rams could not get a first down to seal the win at the end of the 4th. quarter 2. The Rams could not stop the lions from driving deep in their territory to kick the tying field goal 3. In overtime the Rams failed again to stop the lions.

    Goff played poorly. He almost threw a 2nd INT late that was dropped by the DB. That INT would have lost the game.

    Lions suck. Average QB and bad coach will spell disaster this season.
