Best part was when the fire rescue teams runs in for the kill. They jump in like marines and take on extreme stances and poses when the hood is open like a hostage situation. AWESOME!
@GamerDirt You're close, it's a HSV R8 (based off the Holden Commodore) which the Pontiac GTO was related to. The GTO was based off the Holden Monaro, which is a two door like the GTO. This car is actually a four-door.
The leaking fluids are water from the two ice bags which were sitting on top of the intercooler. The fire started after the fuel pressure forced the fuel rail away from the o-ring on top of one of the injectors which sprayed fuel on to the hot turbos.
No, the T56 6-speed (as used in the Holden) has two overdrive gears. 4th is 1:1, 5th is 0.74:1 and 6th is 0.5:1 which is very tall and only for low-rpm/hi-speed cruising.
Mate, if you were at Summernats you would have seen that this car made several 1200hp+ runs on the dyno. As for Commodores not being capable, they've won Horsepower Heroes for the last 9 years.
@21min56secs It popped an o-ring off an injector and sprayed the hot turbos with raw fuel. It looks worse than it was, they had the car running again 30min later.
Actually it looked worse than it was. They unbolted the fuel rail, replaced the o-rings on that side and refitted the fuel rail and the car fired up. The fire didn't actually damage anything except scorch some paint.
@schl0tte It was probably fuel given that the engine bay goes up in flames a second later. With the fuel pressure at around 70psi+ it would have gone everywhere. PS: the drivers side is the other side, it's an Australian car. :)
@Ryoukun16 you have, they are called ' Pontiac GTO ' . Commodore drivers in Oz are real heros and we even have a special name for them .It's 'Bogan'. When you come to OZ and you see an HSV commodore ,introduce yourself to the driver and say .." Hi,Iam from America and i am so pleased to meet a bogan like you ! " he/she will be really pleased .
Safety concerns, in the early days of dyno competition they had several pulleys go flying so they decided it was safer if the bonnets (hood) stayed shut.
@Slycooper2010 You guys are funny, car was fine before run, I don't think anyone would have spotted a damaged injector o-ring before the run - it wasn't exactly pissing fuel until the moment it let go.
There is always a risk of fire when it comes to things like this, especially when engines are pushed that hard. Any professional event like this or a race has a fire team, and with good reason.
@617macky The fan is just out of view, but you can see it when the video switches to the outside view. They keep the hood down because at this competition in the past they've had pulleys come flying out and all sort of stuff. It's a public safety issue.
@Slycooper2010 No one pulls injectors off before a DYNO. Plus, this wasn't a tuning session either. It was for a competition. Rubber O-Rings fail. And you'd have to wait till the car fully cools off and de-pressurize the fuel system before checking the injectors, and O-Rings are one time use only as well. So No I don't think so.
@92scooby have you even went and ever watched one of these dyno's? If you have you would know there is actually a machine that blows cold air into the cooler/radiator.
@crazyredneckwifknife you must be thinking of the Audi R8, thats all wheel drive... this is a HSV (Holden Special Vehicle) R8 from Australia, rear wheel drive
1998 is when they started with the aluminum block. Cheap but powerful as hell!! And I corrected myself on there, in case you didn't know. GM Motors AREN'T meant for boost, I accidentally typed are. Just wanted to clarify things.
God forbid that you ever have a real fire at your house, you're going to get a real shock. I assure you that is was very real. Fuel under pressure hitting some very hot turbochargers makes for a spectacular fire. Given that there was several hundred people there when it happened I'm sure someone else can confirm it.
right, you can imagine what sorta PSI the fuel system would be running, at those revs, for that HP, for that event, Quite simply it couldnt handle it and it let go, fuel sprayed everywhere, in a matter of seconds because of the High PSI, and it got to it's flash point...
@azumaninjay Competition rules stipulate a closed hood because parts have come flying out in the past, as for fans there's a massive one in front of the car which you can't see in the video, I purposely positioned the camera that way because no-one wants to look at the arse end of a big fan. :)
Best part was when the fire rescue teams runs in for the kill. They jump in like marines and take on extreme stances and poses when the hood is open like a hostage situation. AWESOME!
holy shit those flame effects look so realistic!
@GamerDirt

@tomskeez
Injector O-ring, it's a HSV R8 Clubsport (Australian made)
love the caption at the end lol !

@crazyredneckwifknife
No, HSV has never done a AWD sedan, but they did the Coupe4 which was AWD
@21min56secs

@blownhemi the Holden Avalanche or whatever they are called are both HSV and AWD. And look badass.
@Elxmo
LOL, I knew someone would bring that up. Yep, the Avalanche and the Avalanche XUV were also all wheel drive.
@schl0tte

@blownhemi wow that great , this is an awsum vid . glad car came out of it ok . again great job
OK, I had to refresh the comments to realign everything.
Yes the Giocattolo won in 2001 but it used a Commodore motor to do it.
Safety concerns, in the early days of dyno competition they had several pulleys go flying so they decided it was safer if the bonnets (hood) stayed shut.

What does that have to do with anything? the car was in 4th gear during the dyno run. It runs a T56 6-speed transmission.
You tube recomendandome este video de hace 17 años muy bien con un final muy prendido xd
@surf403 Actually the same car has made 1890hp at the wheels since then.

Dynos, the ultimate test for a car, they must go down in flames!
And he still won the event, it was well deserved.
@Slycooper2010 No one pulls injectors off before a DYNO. Plus, this wasn't a tuning session either. It was for a competition. Rubber O-Rings fail. @ryoukun16
gto's/commodore's are also called chevy lumina's in some parts of the world
@92scooby have you even went and ever watched one of these dyno's? If you have you would know there is actually a machine that blows cold air into the cooler/radiator.
Actually they had the car running again 30mins later. It was only an injector o-ring. The fire looked worse than it was.
@monsterink101 it appears to be a commodore, headlights suggest VY but it could possibly be a VT, i still think its a VY commodore
You can tell those fire guys know what they're doing
@Bluntscooters
Funny you should ask, I saw it run just the other day, it ran 9.4 at 167mph
@crazyredneckwifknife you must be thinking of the Audi R8, thats all wheel drive...
this is a HSV (Holden Special Vehicle) R8 from Australia, rear wheel drive
@92scooby. I reckon some people might need to read the video description before they post
@Slycooper2010 That wasn't fuel. That was the external wastegate letting off boost.
I don't imagine you were cheering the fire. Glad no real harm was done.
Yep, 8 seconds from the first appearance of flames to the fire squirt of foam on the car. The fire crew were pretty good.
LOL! Its how the driver walks away like "my insurance is never gonna cover this"
I love how after he gets out he is still spooked by the guy behind him at 0:19
It took about an hour to repair the car. Nowadays the same car has made over 1800hp at the wheels.
1998 is when they started with the aluminum block. Cheap but powerful as hell!!
And I corrected myself on there, in case you didn't know. GM Motors AREN'T meant for boost, I accidentally typed are. Just wanted to clarify things.
@mike22157 The car has a water to air intercoler
@JAMinguitardude1
Impossible, mufflers are in the back, must have been low on headlight fluid.

That's one hot car
the car was tryhrd on rego plates back then tough car and still going hard i'd be happy if my vn 355 puts out that power when i finished
HOLY SH**! :O u done a quarter mile yet? if so whats it run?
right, you can imagine what sorta PSI the fuel system would be running, at those revs, for that HP, for that event, Quite simply it couldnt handle it and it let go, fuel sprayed everywhere, in a matter of seconds because of the High PSI, and it got to it's flash point...
i like how an ad for engine cleaner pops up
Yep, like a high performance four door version of the GTO
Yep, unfortunately there alot of people who know nothing about nothing.
Thanks for viewing
A real man would let it burn out by itself.
Now that's a rapid firemen responce!
@617macky There was a fan is out of picture ... plus alot of cooling in the car that isnt shown...
@cavalier777 im agree, but there is my question, when the mix enter in the cylinder chamber...doesnt burn??, no way kiddo.
@spongebob773 painted flames actually give closer to 30-35 hp and almost 50 if toss in a K&N air filter!!! :)
0:20 - 0:25 the guy driving makes a quiet escape out the back door never to be seen again....
The engine was fine, they replaced the busted injector o-ring and fired it up 30mins later.
Yes it is, except this is the four door sedan version
That's a BOOM BLOWN car , B.B.Q. Grill included
wow i didn't notice until you said that.
That's within Holden Specifications
@airsnipe4 It's running a Chev engine toolbag.
@spongebob773 no wasnt it 1000 hp added if you have flames
@azumaninjay

So it still made 1211hp at what revs? And I know in the decription it says it makes around 1200-1300hp, just wondering if it the highest?
i think i saw two cars blow up on this dyno :D . you will find another one :)
The car is probably like "why the he'll are u spraying me I was just getting hot!"
This is the part in Fast and the Furious where Vin Diesel yells out "NOOOOOOOOS"
What do you expect if you rev it that much?
i know this guy he was absolutley shattered
@monsterink101
Not a Skyline
So does this car still work? And if it doesn't then just fix it or make an a=exact duplicate of it.
Who are you talking to?
@spongebob773
that's only if it's an official Fast and the Furious performance sticker.
@blownhemi and what sprays out on the inner side of the front whell (drivers side)?
thats a hot car
good job
the car made until 1200hp and the fire made it 1hp rite?
Because of the power
that's insane they should definitely look over the motor before they dyno it again
where did it pop?
it's not because of the american car, it's the guy who probably didn't use a big enough injector or it was a defective o-ring.
sorry dude this did actualy happen at the summernats a couple a years ago it blew one of its fuel injecters and the rest is history cheers
@blownhemi aye bro is der a video of the second run ?
is that a skyline cuz if it is im pissed
@blownhemi 60+ psi of fuel pressure and they dont last long if theyre torn.
@GamerDirt At least you were close, some people thought Skyline or Supra LOL
Holy shit, how does that even happen?
how much presure was the fuel at anyway
@azumaninjay
Fans would fuel the fire. That would have no effect when there is fuel spraying.
it would expose a large amount of air to the flames and creat a large backdraft
what is the best website to buy performance parts from?
So blowhemi does this car still work? Or is it useless
2009 LSi, now available with its own BBQ, only available at participating Dyno's. :)
exactly... "6-speed" and it was revving in 4th. U do the math!
that's a GTO Pontiac isn't it?
..which is the aussie equal of our 2003-2006 Pontiac G(ran)T(urismo)O(mologato)
@blownhemi I thought r8's where all wheel drive ?
