@stimo1076 It was originally built by T&M, but I will stress that the owner decided for whatever reason to play around with the engine (apparently he pulled the main caps off) before it went on the dyno at Summernats. I guess the lesson here is, if you get an engine built by the experts, leave it up to the experts.
@NesteHukka2 No, bottom-end catastrophic failure. Whether it be bearing malfunction, conrod seperation, lubrication failure, etc. 9 times out of 10, the engine will not grenade itself under acceleration as it goes up through it's RPM even if those issues are occuring. The engine will destruct when the throttle is released and (in the case of a standard gearbox), the diff gears and the trans gears all 'backlash' and the drivetrain begins pulling on the engine.
@Gavin84w typically when you are doing a dyno pull you have the hood open for more air for cooling and breathing....but blownhemi says it was the rules of the competition for them to be closed.
@NesteHukka2 Yeah, but those issues will kill the engine the moment you let off of the throttle. Regardless of whether or not it is backlash, or lubrication issues. The problem shows itself after the throttle is released.
@bigwoolleypenguin Dyno's do put a load on the engine, that's how they measure power. There's nothing wrong with running a car on a dyno, it just so happens that this one decided to let go.
dynoed my N14 the other day before I bought the 9900 IH it sits in. 411 hp to the ground with plugged air filter and dirty radiator. they say a dyno will bring a diesel to it's knees even more than pulling a load. I beg to differ, as I have done a lot of field work and have never seen an engine I couldn't kill
@Antifaith29 you mean the GTO? are they still being made? are they made outside the US? they weren't too Popular in the US America has the Mustang, Camaro, and Challenger all made in America.
Poor old Blue soldier. Your war is over now. But we can rebuild you, we have the technology. How many movie quotes can I use. For non Australians, this is an Australian Holden Commodore SS, VK model. It had input from the great racing driver Peter Brock and is amazingly collectible. Love a good Holden V8, as usual there are lots of haters commenting. If you know any other brand of car than Holden that take family sedans and sell affordable accredited racing versions in dealerships, let me know.
@NesteHukka2 I guess you could say I'm 'half qualified' to speak on this. I'm an engine builder, but one for American stock car racing, so most all of my experience is with carbuerated/pushrod V8s that turn 8000+/- rpm, then go down to 3500, then pull back up to 8000 out of the turns and down the straights. And 90% of conrod failures in that application is when the driver lifts out going into the turn. So you maybe 100% correct in this case. But I was speaking out of personal experiences.
@DBoucks If you want a good rule of thumb. Just watch 'when' an engine blows. If it blows up at wide-open throttle under acceleration and load, then it's most likely the valve train or a gasket like you said. But when it lets go right when the driver lifts out of the throttle, then it's usually a connecting rod being pulled apart as the drive train backlashes and jerks the engine through revolutions. This isn't 100% true all the time, but it's usually pretty accurate.
they have similar lights and minimal details, but just in my opinion they look totally different body wise, that's just my opinion though, why dont you have a look at a few of the vk ss commodores, see for yourself.
Look at the lights and then look up for Ford Thunderbird and look at the headlights compared to the thunderbird's lights and tell me if you see any similarity.
i love powerful cars, motor bikes, i just don't get the meaning of these tests, why is it good to kill the engine by overreving it??? pls someone enlight me...
@VinceCarter83138 ummmm, thats how they are designed, to be closed, yeah. I love how they always have to have a passenger for these sort of things, to balance things up i guess
but in saying that they were manufactured in the same year, so i would not be surprised if they based certain features on the Thunderbird, its not a rare occurrence in the car world.
@mikesbbody the gto is australian made and exported to the us ... still a GM company but GM australia.... funny thing is you buy our stock body panels as custom parts lol ... google " gto holden commodore "
@mrosuesah my bad i was lookung at tail lights and they look like the old ford mustang, my bad dont hear too much from australia on yt except motortrend testing that 727 ci tire smoker and some ute here and there on occasion.
@SgtRaaaa I did some research as you suggested very interesting! a shame they were not a commercial success in the USA despite that, they are a good car you don't see them much in the USA I think they were only made for 3 years. I know a Guy who had one (400 H.P Model) and it drove very nice! I think they will be collectable before too long.
@opossom1968 - Them's fighting words in this country, no matter which side you're on! FYI, we don't have Mercury or Lincoln, we just have Ford. Similarly, Holden is our only GM make, and we only ever had Chrysler and Dodge since the fifties (no Plymouth).
@58Vulcan Been reading more about the Down Under Car's. The Commodores are very successful in your "Super Car" racing some great older Chrysler Cars (6 pack Hemi 6's) were and still are very fast and, the older Fords had some great style too! man, you Guy's made some awesome Car's! and yes, agree with the FWD comment LOL!
Man this thing looks so much like a Fox Body Mustang in the front ,it's really weird how simillar it is after i read all the comments and find out its made by a GM co. Strange, Very.
I felt sorry for the car owner.he should have spend more money in the engine to get the best parts for it. i have a Honda prelude. runs on 94 gas on 32psi on a GARRETT GT35R fully boost @4000RPM to 11,0000 rpm only 712HP.for 98.000Km still strong. CROWER the best parts rated for 1300hp
why are most people on here asking if it is a ford knock off ect ect..........anyone can tell it it a VK COMMODORE...cmon guys get it together,we are in australia...and good result to the owner on hp before she threw the rods out...just have to bring her back bigger and better.
Thats why i dont want someone else to run my car on a dyno. Most of them dont know when to back off... Reminds my of a poor guy that owned some turboed nissan coupe at a autosalon. You could hear the engine detonating quite easy. The 2nd attempt the motor let go...
@boeing767338 i make 600hp with my 383sbc on pump gas its not that hard you just have to know how to build a motor and mach your cam to your heads and your intake and set your timing right yes it takes a lot of time to fine tune every thing to make it run to it's best but some of us will take 2 years just to build a motor to run the way we want it to
@stimo1076

still one of the nicest looking commodores ever made
Hey Steve.... you did tighten the rod bolts right?? AAAAHHHHH yeah sure did.
@NesteHukka2 No, bottom-end catastrophic failure. @smellmyfartgas
On the run it blew up it made 336.7rwhp, but earlier that weekend it had made 630rwhp+. It was a 383ci Holden V8.
Fucking beautiful car think I was in jail with the bloke who owns that car he's a top bloke
@@phillipgreen2794 Lol yeah sure
@@phillipgreen2794If he was a top bloke he wouldn't have been in jail...
@Gavin84w usually the operator of the dyno is driving and the owner is in the passenger side watching
@NesteHukka2 Yeah, but those issues will kill the engine the moment you let off of the throttle. Regardless of whether or not it is backlash, or lubrication issues. The problem shows itself after the throttle is released.
@bigwoolleypenguin

@hussain7525
Driver is not wearing white, that is the passenger.
As this is a holden and holden is australian
australian cars are RHD
i love how casually the driver walks away
Not his first time
@batesy1993
Highest horsepower that year was just over the 1200rwhp mark, but that was twin turbo.
dynoed my N14 the other day before I bought the 9900 IH it sits in. 411 hp to the ground with plugged air filter and dirty radiator. they say a dyno will bring a diesel to it's knees even more than pulling a load. @150whattt 48 people don't realize that you use a fire extinguisher only when there is a fire.

@3712bigboy You couldn't hear that rattling when it burst? Hmmmmmm...
@VinceCarter83138 It´s for safety: you DON´T wanna be there if engine blows and hood is up.
y wouldnt he let off when i hesitated to accelerate most defiantly bent rods before it went
@jjt142612 if you have a close look, there is no fire. what are you expecting them to do?
Guy just sits in. Revvs it to hell. Blows up the engine. Just walks away. love it!
@NSDwowz
He wasn't driving it, the car is Right Hand Drive
@Antifaith29 you mean the GTO? are they still being made? are they made outside the US? they weren't too Popular in the US America has the Mustang, Camaro, and Challenger all made in America.
wow those fire marshalls have the best reaction times I have ever seen.....

@PanchoTadura Si eso lo se; pero por que reventar un motor de esa forma?
@flavour1970 are you serious look at the lights the fenders and the slant on the rear
worlds fastest emergency response team in action i see

! - who was in drivers seat, owner or shop employee?
2 - if it was shop employee, would the dyno tester have to replace the engine?
more than likely insurance
@batesy1993 wasnt it mr psi made by the hpf crew?
@REPOMAN24722 Yeah, it would. For example I see a Subaru WRX dyno explosion in the related videos here.
why did it blow up? ran out of coolant or something?
@DBoucks If you want a good rule of thumb. Just watch 'when' an engine blows. @stimo1076
Yep, got alot of respect for Jason and Tristan. They build very good engines.
@070ruben es una dyno, con la misma se sacan cuántos CV tiene el auto.
@beenboredsucks126 do u drive a holden? or a holden fan?
Are those Santas helpers?
they have similar lights and minimal details, but just in my opinion they look totally different body wise, that's just my opinion though, why dont you have a look at a few of the vk ss commodores, see for yourself.
Why was the hood closed?
@VinceCarter83138 That and to get an accurate dyno reading, needs to simulate a road driving situation
@zarmanac There's a great big fan just out of camera shot.
wow those guys came out of nowwhere with like 5 fire extinguishers that is impressive responce time.
why dose this look like a lightly modifed fox body mustang hatch
Was that a trick & Mansweto engine?
this same engine made 753hp on the T&M engine dyno
Guy inside the car was like, "Fuck!..dropped the lighter on the stash!"........"time to make my gettaway!'.......lol
IS THAT A FORD MUSTANG AUSSY KNOCK OFF?
@208stroker1 You can never see the driver's face. This is a right hand drive car. It's in Australia.
Look at the lights and then look up for Ford Thunderbird and look at the headlights compared to the thunderbird's lights and tell me if you see any similarity.
Silly Billy!!!! Trick & Mansweto build tough engines That capri of theirs speaks for itself thats why i was suprised, thanks for clearing things up.
1st time I seen a dyno run with bonnet down
i love powerful cars, motor bikes, i just don't get the meaning of these tests, why is it good to kill the engine by overreving it??? pls someone enlight me...
Thankyou for adding "on the link" to my vocabulary. The more you know.
@qvoauto
i dont think so. its like a 1980s car i think....i dont know exactly but yeah. :D
@VinceCarter83138 ummmm, thats how they are designed, to be closed, yeah. I love how they always have to have a passenger for these sort of things, to balance things up i guess
@opossom1968 No, it is General Motors
but in saying that they were manufactured in the same year, so i would not be surprised if they based certain features on the Thunderbird, its not a rare occurrence in the car world.
@mikesbbody the gto is australian made and exported to the us ... still a GM company but GM australia.... funny thing is you buy our stock body panels as custom parts lol

Holden is that a ford company of Australia?
i
@VinceCarter83138
rules of the competition, they had too many cars losing pulleys and belts so they made it madatory that all cars run with hood down.
@opossom1968 - Them's fighting words in this country, no matter which side you're on!
FYI, we don't have Mercury or Lincoln, we just have Ford. Similarly, Holden is our only GM make, and we only ever had Chrysler and Dodge since the fifties (no Plymouth).
@qvoauto no its a holden
I had a Commodore... 64. It didn't go *vrooom* it went *beep* *beep* *boop* *boop*.
@58Vulcan Been reading more about the Down Under Car's. @STOBIEPOLL Fully sick? I hope it gets better soon, keep up the medicine....
Ouch, who ever was at fault would be dead by now if that was my car!
@DirtyMutt101
yeah well, it wasn't his car. :)
The guy who owned it was watching from outside the cage.
ScottysGarage. Mick (the owner) actually is the person who jumps out of passengers side
Man this thing looks so much like a Fox Body Mustang in the front ,it's really weird how simillar it is after i read all the comments and find out its made by a GM co. Strange, Very.
Look up the 1983-1987 version plz.
Why? It looks like a thunderbird to me
@Xquu15 It's from the 80's. If you hit a wall at 60kph in any car in the 80's, chances are, you were going to die.
@qvoauto sorry mate, just cant see it
I felt sorry for the car owner.he should have spend more money in the engine to get the best parts for it. i have a Honda prelude. runs on 94 gas on 32psi on a GARRETT GT35R fully boost @4000RPM to 11,0000 rpm only 712HP.for 98.000Km still strong. CROWER the best parts rated for 1300hp
@wichrau Just because you can't afford to have that kind of fun doesn't mean others can't.
haha the guy walks out of the car "i didn't do it" hahaha!
"awe fuck! Well boys, just drag er to the scrap yard."
@Hoobz01 yep ur right...vk commodore i know its aussie just was drunk when i typed last...lol..
it was making 600hp at the back wheels, now its just making a f...ing big puddle on my workshop floor
why are most people on here asking if it is a ford knock off ect ect..........anyone can tell it it a VK COMMODORE...cmon guys get it together,we are in australia...and good result to the owner on hp before she threw the rods out...just have to bring her back bigger and better.
Engine was running on penrite.
opala v8 ? show
Notice how the guys with the fire extinguishers were already holding them like they were expecting it... Should have got a falcon
Falcon would of blown before you got it to the dyno
@qvoauto how does it even remotely resemble a mustang
When day your car goes boom don’t give up or give to bloom call autocar and they will be their soon on that day your car goes boom
@BuzzLOLOL
Exactly.
@batesy1993 This was not one of em!
if you're having car problems I feel bad for you son, I got 99 problems but a commo ain't one
Thats why i dont want someone else to run my car on a dyno. Most of them dont know when to back off... Reminds my of a poor guy that owned some turboed nissan coupe at a autosalon. You could hear the engine detonating quite easy. The 2nd attempt the motor let go...
took there sweet ass time making sure there wasnt a fire...
the way a holden should go
@qvoauto
Seeing that it's made by GM, I think probably not. :)
fix or repair daily
alot of load sitting in the one spot everythings trying to twist its self to pieces
@DBoucks
Conrods.
@blownhemi was that guy even trying to be serious with his comment? lol
@boeing767338 i make 600hp with my 383sbc on pump gas its not that hard you just have to know how to build a motor and mach your cam to your heads and your intake and set your timing right yes it takes a lot of time to fine tune every thing to make it run to it's best but some of us will take 2 years just to build a motor to run the way we want it to
@bugszor *facepalm* Clue up, this isn't some car we had to export to you.
