I live in Largo (small town between Clearwater and St. Pete) and watching this makes realize what we were spared here in the Tampa Bay area. I literally have goose bumps watching this and realize, "There but for the Grace of God go I." Thank you for this footage.
I am starting to think that one of the safest places during a Hurricane is a parking garage. Thank you for this footage it still breaks my heart the total damage to Fort Myers and Sanibel. :-(
You’re correct, for several reasons. First, you can take refuge from the storm surge on the higher floors. Second, because there are no windows, there’s no danger from broken glass. And finally, not only are these buildings reinforced concrete, they have open spaces for wind and water to move through instead of battering the structure into rubble.
Excellent coverage!!! Love actually seeing a video that gives me a real feel of what those winds would be like, incredible, also shows how Florida has improved with stiff building codes for hurricanes, these buildings did well....most of them...
Really annoying to say the least..but I have to wonder why that same exact noise was heard no matter what was being filmed or where? Anyone care to venture a guess?😒 Hello?😃
I lived in Venice and we were lucky.I taught school in Port Charlotte. It was horrible to see the damage and hear the stories. I will never forget.Praying for everyone.
I own a home in Bonita Springs. My daughter lives there full time. We were lucky to be inland enough not to get any water damage. No wind damage other than a few Palm Trees. She said the wind was brutal with the windows moving in and out.
To those that have not lived through a Hurricane. The audio in no way sounds like the real thing. I get it. They are doing the best they can. It's sounds similar to an eerie howl that never takes a break. The volume is very loud as well.
Wow , Kudos to the builder or whoever installed the steel supports at 16:45 as it wasn't moving and saved the building ! My prayers go out to all these families and business owners ,so unreal , let alone the loss of money will be humbling for some as the insurance companies are being bombarded and will not be able to service them. So already not being covered totally will suffer great losses . Too bad as greed needs to be humbled and more monies shared with the existing homeless situation ( before Ian ) . This area is just one tiny spot so imagine all the wealth out there. People we need to help each other yes but don't forget the homeless , most suffered losses to get there too .
Storm chasers need to avoid using microphones with any kind of noise cancelling or noise gate feature,to eliminate the choppy sounding recording. Not criticising this guy, just see it a lot & this is actually one of the better ones, some are un-watchable.
I was fine until i noticed my celiing fan was moving up and down about and an inch and a half with the wind when it was at its strongest. I could put my hand on the ceiling and feel it vibrating and bouncing a bit.
@@Trahzy Most of the palms, but not queen palms. They are from subtropical south america which doesnt get storms like that. Other than that a lot of those palms are built for it.
I think the sensor was destroyed before the strongest of the winds but the Punta Gorda Airport sensor stopped working at 124 mph. It probably gusted 140-155mph in Punta Gorda.
I was Englewood Florida. Specifically Rotonda west and we were in the worst part of the eye wall for 8+ hours. Idc what they say it was a 5 at landfall. A anemometer in Englewood clocked a wind speed and/or of 190+ mph
The englewood anemometer was faulty. Winds there were probably up to cat-4 strength but not 190. That just wouldn't make sense with the storm. Ian really looked more like a cat 3 at landfall, just the jet interaction was keeping intensity higher than it otherwise would have. It was a weird storm.
Thinking of the tremendous loss of livelihood for thousands of regular folks. They not only lost their way of making a living, but the businesses loss of assets, inventory, etc. On top of the damage to their homes and automobiles. And, I hear that only 20% of the homes in that area have flood insurance. Maybe wind damage coverage will help. The total losses will be near $100 billion I have heard.
Well it happens a lot here, those who didn't grow up here underestimate then eventually learn the hard way. Survived Andrew in a bathtub under a mattress.
What's that weird wizz coming in groups by 3? If it's town's alarm, I don't think it's really necessary. That STOP sign looks like trying to stop the whole hurricane: - THOU SHALL NOT PASS!! :)

I understand. I live in New Port Richey.
The eerie noises that wind makes at high speeds as it goes thru everyday objects is fascinating.
at times it sounded like a literal monster

Never like experience it being here totally different from watching it on a video biggest and terrible feeling
Cheers for being brave whilst filming this amazing footage! 👍
Agreed
Thank you for sharing this. Incredible footage!
Wish I could find the one video on the back end of that horrific grinding noise. It was either a news station or a stormchaser.
That constant alarm noise adds a great deal of aggravation to the stress of the storm.

Should have had boards over the windows .
@@mikepierce1724 Yeah if you don't have hurricane windows then it's definitely stupid to not do that.

that was one scary storm Yikes!!!!
What is that rhythmic, high-pitched sound? (Not talking about wind roaring.) Someone suggested fire alarm in the comments. Thanks. Makes sense.

The wrath of Gaia...she will unleash more of these, more powerful and often, nowhere to hide...

Wow they really do build everything super sturdy don't they. I'm amazed there's not more things falling or snapping off at those speeds.
It is the Florida coast after all, not their first rodeo. Even the palm trees have adapted to withstand hurricanes (not joking).

Either wind howling through the whole building or people cheering as they saw this 155+mph wind gust

Why does it matter?? It's autumn.
Sept 28 2022
Imagine pissing in that wind..
Why are the fire alarms going off in the parking garage?
A very wet eyewall; reminds me of Irma
I was in Irma's right front quadrant at landfall and can confirm it was very wet.
Total whiteout.
Absolutely horrifying.
What is that strange noise?
