    Why being so rude? I find his beat very good and the sound too. He is teaching well, patiently and clear. I can follow step by step and play along, not like many others who use the tutorial videos in order to actually show their skills. He is not playing, he is teaching and you have nothing to base your judgment on. Usually a "doctor" is for solving problems and thorough him I have bettered what I couldn't do. And I find it kind of funny, he being dressed like a doctor.

    Thanks so much for the lesson!! I've just started playing the doumbek recently, and his videos are by far the clearest and easiest for me to learn from. From one teacher to another--strong work!

    As noted, DrumDoc is obviously a Dr. [thus the clothes]. Also obvious is he is doumbek player [Doumbek is drum]. He is teaching Baladi ... so like all good teachers he does it slowly and explains well. Looking at his relaxed technique make me think he COULD play fast and show boat like so many youtube so called "teachers" do ... but is humble and just wants t o share. So Mr. Turgay ... the only mountain to climb is your own ego. No wonder so may youtube videos have the comments disabled.
    BTW - checked out your video. You can also play ... but nothing special and certainly you are on no lofty heights that give you any stone throwing status

    I thought those were scrubs. I live in them, I am a dentist, bely dancer since '79,
    and have played doumbek since 1987. You must go back to the basics now and then.

    Yea they sound great, it's just a hassle to install them on egyptian drums because they don't fit those correctly. The difference with the mylar head regarding the sound is that they give a rubbing nose (like when you move your hand on the skin) where as the mylar doesn't. On the other hand the skyndeep lets your fingers glide don't do not get sticky even in humid conditions, whereas mylar gets sticky with humidity and sweat.

    Thank you Sally. I wont actually post lesson 2 until u actually get a derbakeh, coz I don't want you to blame me for breaking your laptop ;) you got me thinking about adding a disclaimer :" this lesson is only intended to be practiced on your drum. Do not try this on your laptop". LOL :)

      Yes it is. Another beautiful drum is called daf or deff which has the same bols but the notes are actually called toum, bak and chap as the ka. It is a frame drum.

    HaHa! I love that you're wearing your scrubs. Nice touch, "DrumDoc"!
    I was recently given an old Alexandria darbuka with an original mylar head that needs to be replaced. I was considering the Skyndeep head. You said they are hard to fit on properly. What did you do to get yours to work?

    so baladi, mamoudi and saidi are all basically the same? They sound like it.

    • @muhrvis

      mxm190 Saidi sounds completely different to me.

    • @isfahani
      @isfahani 9 лет назад

      mxm190 Baladi is the western name for the Arabic rhythm known as Masmoudi Seghir. Saidi is in the same 'family' as Baladi which also includes Maksoum but Saidi generally speaking has the two doums in the second half.

      baladi: doum doum tak doum tak taka
      saidi: doum tak doum doum tak taka
