Who knew that SO MANY UNIQUE SOUNDS could come from one instrument??? Oh, yeah, millions of people on the other side of the world (I’m from North America), that’s who! I’m in my 60s as of this writing, and finally, wanting to explore and expand to new horizons, am starting to dig into Middle Eastern music in general (starting with the Armenian duduq, a woodwind instrument, for those who don’t know), but along the way, picking up on other instruments from the area. This is my first encounter with the Arbil’s, and what a great choice of videos, from somebody who is clearly a master at his craft! Much love from the USA! Strangely, the only thing I can compare this sound to is that of a drum line in a DCI (Drum Corps International) finals competition; but it takes a whole drum line to reproduce this sound! Simply amazing! I’m so glad I’m learning of new-to-me music forms! Thank you again!
Amo la darbuka por sus hermosos sonidos y admiro profundamente a alguien capaz de demostrar su versatilidad de una manera tan maravillosa. Saludos desde Banfield, Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Mesmerising music from Algeria. Just fallen in love ❤️ Congratulations dear Algerians, you guys are really really amazing. Such entertaining music 🎶 🎵 👌
I commented elsewhere about what a truly spectacular performance this is! But my *one* complaint is that the video crew keep switching camera angles! It’s great to see the facial expressions and whatnot, but I’m much more interested in his hand movements and the many ways in which he addresses the head and sides and rim of the darbuki, rather than the artsy camera angles. Other than that, this is an expertly filmed performance (I do like the cutaways once the solo is finished), and the audio is stunning! Bravo to all involved!
