A couple things I’ve learned since making this video:
-You can use the battery voltage meter to gauge the battery life better (dies around 6.4v)
-The screen can be calibrated… Kindof
-The anamorphic desqueeze is baked in the footage. This makes the fact that it can’t be customized even more ridiculous 😂
Thanks for all those that commented on their experiences!
And we appreciate the work you do in making these.
Of course I’d love to see more of your personal work too!
Thanks man!
The personal work will be used more so for B-Roll on videos showcasing products or cameras. Not sure if I’m going to post full projects as videos on here, at least not yet. That’ll be more so for the website and Instagram
Love it bro! Looking forward to the full review!
Thanks bro!
Workin’ on it 🙌🏼
Lots of people are underestimating and blowing off the fact that it has an OLPF. Literally the key
It’s a huge benefit for sure
I've seen tests... It has same moiré than s5ii but less sharpness. At this point i'm realy questioning what is the point lf the olpf, if it's just to desharpen, i prefer to have the choice to soften the picture with a diffusion filter if needed than having it built in in an uncontrolled way.
@lucasvivante8988 it definitely does not have the same moire
@@lucasvivante8988 diffusion before the lens is different than after the lens
@@AnthonyRodriguezz i've seen test on a different channel and it was the same. Looking forward to this
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Anthony! Always enjoy your videos. Looking forward to more :)
Appreciate it!
Nice video, man. Loved your lighting. Keep rocking 👍
Thanks man! I appreciate that
Just want to touch on some points: Use the Blackmagic NPF Batteries, they have about 20-30% higher capacity.
Click on the battery icon to show battery voltage exactly rather than a graphic bar. The camera cuts around 6.3V. Once working with exact numbers it's a lot easier to know where you battery is at.
Also, you can calibrate the screen with a screen calibrator. Put the calibrator on the white patch and adjust the sliders until you get the exact white you want.
Oh no way! Are there any 3rd party batteries that have the same capacity?
Will be using the voltage from now on! Appreciate the help 💪🏼
Will also try adjusting the screen a bit!
@AnthonyRodriguezz Not sure about other 3rd party options. Neewer is 2600mAh vs Blackmagic's native 3500mAh.
Turns out kastar makes their batteries and they have a non branded pack of 4 on Amazon for $66. Same specs! Thanks for that!
Is there a chart where I can see %/voltage readings?
@AnthonyRodriguezz Hey unfortunately not. Maybe record the battery from full to dead with a camera and cross check the time to the battery life. Find the total time to dead and create a time map of each point the voltage drops .1
That should give you a good way of figuring out what it would actually be converted to %.
Loving your channel bro, keep it up!
Thanks brother!
It’s been a wild ride, but an enjoyable one 🙌🏼
Enjoyable at times… 😂
Here it is! 🙌🏼
😉
Awesome! Looking forward to your comparison!
💪🏼
Great Video, can‘t wait to see the full review!
Greetings from Germany!
Thanks bruv!
Love that someone actually doesn’t mind the form factor. Sure it’s big, but I’ve never had a problem with how it felt, plus I love that they are including an actual monitor on the camera, so the size makes sense.
Same boat! 💯
Yeah, it really isn’t that bad!
I agree. I always thought it was weird and a waste of money to add additional monitors to their cameras. Only in a few instances do I think an extra monitor is necessary. But that's my style I guess. I guess I am way more minimal and more run and gun than others. Though I will say that I don't put Blackmagic cameras on gimbals because of the size and balance.
Having owned and got rid of a 7K Pro, I can testify that the form factor is shit and so badly balanced that it causes fatigue. It's also hard to read the 5" tiltable display when your arms are knackered. The battery life is a pain so is having to use focus peaking all the time.
That’s an interesting take on it… so the large screen that’s the size of most monitors, except better quality is hard to see because your arms get tired? Not being sarcastic! Just want to make sure I’m reading that correctly
Great review man, can’t wait to get my hands on mine
Thanks bro! Get those shots with that thing 😏
Interesting review. As a 3+year P4K user (and huge fan) I think this is the perfect next step for me. I wasn't convinced at first, but seriously, for the money it's a no brainer. One small job and it's paid for and to me the image looks better than a lot of cameras 4-5x it's price. Usability is better than the P4K due to the much better screen, ergonomics are what I'm used to so none of that makes any difference to me. Image first for sure. Only things I would've liked to have seen would be bit better shutter lag and high frame rates. But for the money, can't really complain.
That’s exactly it! “For the money, can’t really complain”
The image for money proposition here is incredible
Totally. I came from Sony (APSCs) to the P4K and initially missed IBS and auto focus in some situations - and used to look at new sony product announcements and wonder if I made the right choice. But once you get used to thinking like a cinematographer and less like a hybrid videographer, you don't even consider those things and it becomes all about image. BMD have nailed it from that point of view. I don't miss sony at all now, especially as rarely see sony footage that is pleasing in the same way as BM footage. And obviously the BRAW workflow is second to none: hardware > codec > editor ❤
Can't wait for the full review! I would LOVE to know if it's possible to dual record to the cfexpress type b card and external ssd simultaneously
Noted!
My rigged out Blackmagic Pocket 6k pro has been a dream to work with, can’t wait to step up to FF with this cam! And honestly the image quality for that price is insane🔥 Love the video, thanks!
Crazy value for money!
Nice review. No one else really emphasized the direct out-of-camera image. That places this in with what high end cinema cameras provide. Thanks
It’s definitely a huge advantage!
Great video man! thanks👍
My pleasure! Thank you!
Love the video!!!! Thank you!!!
Thanks man! My pleasure
I have the LUMIX Siix and I’m really looking forward to have this combo. I’m sucker for BRAW
I personally think BRAW is the best codec out there when it comes to file sizes and price point
The blackmagic colors are beyond beautiful.
Soooo good
Amazing stuff! So a quick question how did you focus using your bmp 6k ? Considering buying cuz quality is my most important thing but little to no experience in manual focusing 😅
I mean… it’s like almost any other camera. You definitely might want to practice with vintage lenses on the camera you already have
Beautiful footage man, I feel like I'd still want to rig it out with a top handle and monitor (and power solution) - if the screen is anything like the Video assist the colours are ropey (like you say) but it's bright and contrasty with amazing menus. Interested to see your in depth vid.
Thanks brother!
Yeah… a top handle and power solution would definitely be needed for actual jobs.
The monitor idk it would be too helpful as the one built in is the size of of any good 5”and looks better than all of them. Unless you’re wanting a 7”, that’s the beauty of this mini beast!
@@AnthonyRodriguezz I think for me it's the position if you're bringing the camera in or bracing against your body you might struggle with that monitor.
If you're rigging a v-mount solution it might also block it - but yeah - no doubt they give you one of the best monitors on any cam
Anthony, wonderful video. Thank you for your clear comparison of these two cameras. Btw, which camera was recording you on the field that had the wide angle lens with stabilization wobbles? Thank you Anthony.
Thanks for the support!
It was the s5iix
@@AnthonyRodriguezz thank you Anthony for the reply.
Thanks so much for this thoughtful review! On the preset anamorphic desqueeze - if I want to use a lens with 1.33 and in open gate mode will it not look accurate on the monitor?
Hey man!
Unfortunately, It will not look accurate
Is that a Gerber LST that was used to open the box? Love your vids, they have a great vibe😍
Thanks bro! 🙏🏼
It was actually a Cutco knife I had from like 10 years back 😂
I would love to see some footage paired with the anamorphic adapter. See.
I no long have an anamorphic adapter but I’ll be posting a video soon using anamorphic lenses with it
Great review. I have 6K Pro and its has similar form factor. Did you use Leica lens for the outdoor shots in the beginning? I want to see more from you with this beautiful FF. Keep them coming with that Sigma lens too.
Everything was shot with the sigma lenses and pro mist!
Will be pumping out some more videos in the couple of weeks
I'm still using the original s5, and I was about to buy another one, but I've been thinking hard about possibly getting one of these instead and pairing it with my s5. Since its L mount, it makes sense for me, but I'm really wondering if the image quality is that different. To me, the S5 has an amazing image quality. Great review, and most importantly, congratulations!
They both have amazing quality!
Will be posting a comparison of the s5iix and BMCC6k soon! Should apply sort of to the s5
@@AnthonyRodriguezz I'm not using autofocus in my work at all, I'm 95% vintage glass or anamorphic, and so I didn't see any reason to upgrade to the S5II or x, but I need another camera, and so... I look forward to your review. Love your channel.
Hi, thank you for the video. So what is the actual running time of the camera on one battery?
Around 45-55 mins for the higher capacity NPF batteries
Have the s5mk1 and the BM Video assist 12g. I am looking to get an amazing image in BRAW (especially open gate which I know the mk2 doesnt't output 3:2 raw) and not trying to sell my S5mk1. Is the image that much better as to just skip getting the mk2 and go for the BMCC6k? Looking to do music videos, commercials, and short films.
Tbh I can’t really answer that question for you as I don’t know what you value most. The image will not be exponentially better, just marginally
One thing. Footage actually IS desqeezed when you put into editing software. So if you use 3:2, and use the 1.6x sqeeze option, it will be sqeezed by 1.6x in post.
Oh wow it does… that’s really unfortunate! At least it’s unfortunate that it’s not customizable
Nice one man! I saw you on the black magic fb page!
Subbed!
Thanks bro!
Is this just another version of the EF & M4/3 mount versions? If not what have they changed (other than the lens mount)?
The sensor size plays a huge role regarding the entire image. The colors are different, theirs open gate which is really useful. It’s mainly the sensor size, which is no slouch
what about video quality on lumix s5IIx does lumix s5IIx stand near to BMCC 6K FF?
Haven’t stacked them against each other yet!
Isn't there a screen calibration menu where you can tweak the image with white balance and tint and compare it to another physical reference monitor?
Yes I found out that there is!
Great!
Sad that I’m planning to leave the system the image quality is soooo good
😭 what are you switching to?
@@AnthonyRodriguezz sony maybe or the s5iix, the 6K pro I have just sitting in the case. I mostly shoot with my A7iv because of the ease of use with gimbal set etc.
Seems odd to me that it was mentioned about Run n Gun and how you can just get a great image etc. but no mention of the auto focus, which not for me, but is important for many run n gun shooters.
I mentioned autofocus when I said who it’s not for 👍🏼
Manual focus is easy
Any word on new cages? The Tilta cage doesn't fit right
No one’s reached out to me yet about any cages!
You’re able to calibrate the color on the monitor a bit.
Good to know! I’ll test it out a bit 👍🏼
bmcc 6k have green tint in the shadows compared to s5iix! All the videos I saw with these two cameras had same result.
The s5iix actually just shifts more magenta overall!
Does this support external recording ? Like the ninja atomos
I’m sure it does, haven’t tried though!
Not sure why you would want that if you have one of the best codecs out there internally 😎
Can you make the fist descent review on the Pro EVF? Like a very good review please.
I have it! It’s not the best 😞
Idk if it warrants its own full review though… these things take alot of work! 😂
But still it would be great to know if it gives you the same info as the screen, how does it look like, is it worth it even though is not the best. @@AnthonyRodriguezz
I’d rather get the s5iix tbh, if I need braw ill use my black Magic monitor
Definitely has its place!
I personally don’t enjoy using an external monitor if I don’t need to. Plus that BM Assist monitor is HEAVY!
I want to try Canon FD lenses with this camera.
Love the FDs. They’d pair really well
Any HDR10 video you can provide? Can you work in HDR?
Hdr10?
I don’t have an HDR workflow, sorry
@@AnthonyRodriguezz 😬 thanks ..
Still rocking the pocket 4k! How much better is the full frame compared to it??
What he said 👆🏼
It’s for sure an upgrade, might not be a necessary one for you but tbh that’s for you to decide in the end!
Not much “better” per se. People that disagree have never used the 4k in much of a capacity. It’s a beast, 4k 12 bit raw is insane on so many levels. Throw on a meta bones .71 and you have a real winner. The trick in this industry is to create and not worry about the latest and latest and greatest gear. Most media consumers will never know the difference if you do your part.
@@hhankx Very true. I bought a metabones .64 last month and started filming 5:1 compression and it was like having a brand new camera. People can't tell the difference if you know what you're doing.
Interesting that you didn't mention the lack of IBIS. It's a dealbreaker for me.
Lack of ibis vs gyro isn’t really that big of compromise at all.
side note I am also in florida bro!
Where at?
@@AnthonyRodriguezz south florida man but im up in tampa and sometimes orlando as well!
We’re camera buddies😂😂 same 2 cameras
You're probably aware, but the monitor can be adjusted for more accurate color per this video.
ruclips.net/video/mTyM9D_lesQ/видео.html
I am now! Had some people educate me 🙌🏼💪🏼
How does the image quality compare to the FX6?
This is just my opinion but I prefer the image of the BMCC6k way more than the fx6
They’re all gonna look the same now for a few years until we move beyond 12-bit ADC. If you’re using a color managed workflow, they all pan out pretty much exactly the same.
@@ForestCinema you can “Kindof” make them look the same but a blanket statement is unfortunately, not correct
@@AnthonyRodriguezz yes it’s a generalization for sure. People sweat really small stuff these days, I’d say it’s mostly an aesthetic difference in color/contrast, not massive differences in dynamic range. There aren’t huge differences between cameras these days on a sensor level
@ForestCinema ahhh yeah that makes sense. I will say though that I didn’t enjoy the Sony image hardly at all and it was pretty time consuming to get the look I get with my other cameras and time is money 😎
What is the lens selection for this camera?
Hey!
Are you asking about what mount it has or what lenses I recommend?
I found out it had the EF mount which is good for wide selection
@@Offgridyurtliving it has an L mount
@@AnthonyRodriguezzso it can still work with wide variety of lens? Like sony?
@Offgridyurtliving on the contrary. It can work with a wide variety of lenses like EF mount, PL mount and other adapter vintage lenses as well as L mount
B-cam looks better
Agreed
Arri feels like an obsolated camera after this :))
Ehhhh… maybe not 😂
Arri will always have its place 😉
@AnthonyRodriguezz don't be a fanboy lol
@@valkiron11 for arri?

Its for people who dont care about great stabilisation in video as it has no ibis
Uhhhh
Not made for gimbals! But raw in camera. Would love to have it. I’m more hybrid. So prefer Sony currently. Tons of options.
Yeah not the best for gimbals… it works though!
Why is it not made for gimbals? Ive ran it on my rs3 pro, and works perfect.
I've seen full rigs on gimbals. This camera is fine for that. It depends on the gimbal.
