    Im going to go buy a new 2023 in a day or two. I ride a KX500 currently, highly modified and extremely strong. These 300 KTMs will do anything my 500 will do and are a dream to ride. Can’t wait to get it! My 500 will be sad, but she’s pristine and can just sit and rest and go up in value.

  • @etaunknown4024
    @etaunknown4024 6 лет назад +6

    If you don't live in Europe buying a KTM just doesn't make sense to me. They're expensive as hell, they cost a fortune to maintain because even used parts are more than new parts for a rice burner and don't run a bit better. They're all good but for the money I'll keep my Yamaha. 99 yz400f with one top end rebuild and it still does power wheelies in 5th and is dependable as anything you can buy new. I ride it every day in some pretty gritty shit and it's never once left me stranded. Oh, my bad I had to replace the stator about a month ago. She's a beast and weighs as much as a Sherman tank but if you can hold on I guarantee it'll get you through, over, up, or across anything you point it at and and pin the throttle. KTM does make a pretty bike tho, being from Tennessee I just love the orange and white but I'll stick with Yamaha blue lol.

      Well, IMHO, they need a lot of stuff, but if you watch Jonny Walker, Graham Jarvis, and other really fast guys, they run nearly dead stock bikes, often without even decent brush guards. Of course, I drop my bike a lot more frequently than they do

    On my 17, yes, jetted way too rich from the factory. Based on what looked like good advice on some forums, I swapped out the needle and went with the leaner one that came with the bike in the parts kit and dropped the clip position down one. I went from the stock 38 pilot to a 32.5. Still a bit rich on the low end, but much improved and good enough for me. Total cost for me to get it running good was around five bucks. I have not had any problem with the stock reeds, but bought some Boyesen's just in case.

    Love my 300. They are great bikes. I have the previous gen bike and the twin chamber forks. They fixed the starters for the previous generations in 15/16. I swapped the parts out on my 13 and it works great so far. I had to rebuild the 410W starter with new brushes. My KTM dealer is SLMracing in Arlington TX and they are great. They sell parts on E-bay a lot. Good prices, always willing to work with you, parts in stock. So far good prices for wearable parts. I bought my bike used, but I have seen some good prices in there on new stuff. True mom and pop shop. They always have a ton of stuff crammed in the shop, but are finally expanding. Not a multi brand dealer and the are not stuck up at all!

    Had a 13 250 & 300XCW starter design was funky but never failed me.
    Bought an 18 300 XCW not impressed with the Mikuni !!! Also got a 17 150XCW - MIKUNI EVEN WORSE !! After several jetting attempts got them both pretty dialed in, still may go LECTRON.
    Or get an injected 19. I agree its ridiculous that cooling fans aren't stock on these bikes. Look at the big 4 strokes & they dont have them either. Its a plot to suck every dime outta ya ! But i LOVE THE BIKES .

    I’ve riden my tpi over 1000 miles and have only replaced the rear tyre once. (It had plenty of tread left on it but I replaced it for a muddy event.) And I ride my bike to the bush on 5km of tard road before and after my rides. WTF are you doing to go through so many tyres?
    Seriously recommend upgrading to the tpi when you can Jon. No mixing, no jetting. Smooth power delivery. Almost 100 miles to the tank. Say 90 miles LOL.

    My beta 300 RR has 130 hours, other than brake pads, front wheel bearing's, front sprocket out put seal, and fork seals. It's been very good! I did a lot of research in 2014 when I bought it new. the KTM 300 xc-w did not hold a candle to what beta offers. from the get-go, betta has the V Force reeds. Fmf exhaust, linkage rear suspension. Their expansion pipe is higher up on the frame. I went with the race Edition which is outfitted with the marzocchi pfp closed cartridge Forks. Galfer brake components. And their bikes are still handmade in Italy. All for about $1,000 less than the KTM 300 six day edition. Additionally it's wired up with all the components to street legal. I'm not positive on KTM and their power valve but the beta is very linear with the power valve adjustment screw. at least until recently I believe you had to change a spring on KTM 300 to make that change. The 300rr race Edition also has a map switch for wet slippery or muddy conditions or dry. I have been very happy with my beta, but unlike KTM owner/Riders I'm just in it for the sport. I'll ride with an orange bike any day and not hold my nose to the air like they do.

    My '15 300 6days was terrible from the dealer, ran sooo rich it was unridable, 4cs forks were crap, reeds had gaps in the cage, head squish was off, after I fixed all these and fitted Dal Soggio $phere cartridges, Suzuki needle and leaned off the jetting it's now like an electric motor! Seamless power, I rode a '18 TPI a few weeks ago, out of the box it's the most amazing bike I ever rode!! KTM finally got the ready to race part right.

    I have a 2022 gas gas ex250 and I love it. The TPI injection system works awesome. So does the starter. There's not a bad thing I can say about the bike. I don't have any single track experience but I don't understand why you guys Ride Along at such low RPMs. Why not be in a lower gear and have some quick power and engine braking?

    KTM = Keep Taking Money. I love the look and the bikes in general. My issue is what you stated, how you already spend 9-12k for the bike and then to make it “rideable” you have to throw another few grand at it to make it reliable. Reason why I have not broke down and bought a new KTM because of the problems I CONSTANTLY hear people have with them in person and online.

    • @mikeyorath8361
      @mikeyorath8361 6 лет назад

      Let's be honest I'm sure the new ones are pretty capable out the door. How many of the mods were actually needed and not just wanted ?
      Jetting... well alot of bikes come jetted shit as they have to meet specs. But if I was gonna pony up 8k on a new bike id be telling the dealer you jet it to suit where I'm riding from your chart and I'll have a main either side of that to fine tune else it stays with you and I'm sure that they would do it as losing 10 to 20 pounds tops to get a 8k sale is worth taking on the chin and they have a happy customer that's gonna go back for parts and mods ECT...
      Have heard that the switch to mikuki carb was a bad move as better with the kelhin and many swap. But unless your racing getting every bit of power your not gonna notice a slight flat spot ect.
      Got many mates with the husqvarnas and they have battered them from day one, no problems even on the tpi but they look after them mind like stripping to clean ECT.

    • @mikeyorath8361
      @mikeyorath8361 6 лет назад

      And I've got a old 08 with 200hrs on it. Only main problem is the starter that's pretty standard fault. Fixed the bendix and it just don't turn it fast enough. Other than that it had a piston as wanted to so I knew it was done and the vforce3 reed broke up found on rebuild but they could be stock never changed so not really a fault just poor maintenance by previous owner

    What I love about my Husky TXC 310R 4 stroke,
    It doesnt use oil in the gas.
    It doesnt smoke and stink,
    It can go to a gas station and fill up.
    It has oil in the crank case bearings all the time.
    The exhaust pipe is tucked out of the way and cant get hurt.
    It doesnt have a carb.
    It is mapped for unrestricted power
    It has a 6 speed transmission.
    It has a hydraulic clutch
    It hauls ass
    It roars like a super charged diesel tractor
    It only has 12 hrs on it.
    It only cost me $2500.

    I have the 200xcw, and after 40 hours the rear tire has not been the problem for me but, I had to spend alot of $$ as well on things that I felt the bike should have come with from the factory. My jetting absolutely sucked with factory parts. Hard to start, bogging terrible at 3/4-full throttle and lack of response all around. They send the bike with jetting for sea level riding and the extra jetting parts that come with won't get you close to what you need in the mountains above 7000ft, even though the bike is advertised and sold as a "woods racing ready bike". Their are not too many woods at sea level. Yeah and no spark arrestor from the factory?? Come on ktm that is the law in the woods pretty much everywhere. I totally agree with the huge pipe, thats what the Gnarly means.....size not power LOL, and will add why does the radiator have to be so wide? If they can design a 2 stroke trials bike with a proper size exhaust and radiator why can't they design the same for an enduro bike??? For the price you pay for the ktm it should come with hand guards, and an FMF or equivalent silencer that has a built in spark arrestor. I also had to respring the front forks and the rear shock on mine, since the factory springs are too stiff for those weighing around 160lbs (unless you carry alot of gear). If you buy a ktm for 8K, get ready to spend alot of $$ to get it where you need it for riding. One design change that would be nice is to take an inch or an inch and a half of height out of the seat padding, no need for 3-1/2" of seat height. I do still like the ktm, just figure its probably the same with any dirtbike.

      I luv both. I just like the Beta because it can be gentle or a beast. It crawls thru tight trails. Crack the throttle and it rips. Plus it is street legal

    top echelon purpose built enduro bike, I still have my 06 with suspension worked over, I came from many other bikes and for what I do which is enduro/woods there is nothing better imo, the limitation is the rider plain and simple and sure you can pretty much use any bike for this purpose but damn this machine just make it so much easier, your endurance is extended, it tractors and keeps it's flame, I rode my friends newer 300 and yeah the ergo is a bit better but not enough for me to replace my 06, it had a tendency to knife or washout the front end so I fitted a dampner and upsized the front tire to a 110 golden tyre, they may be spendy but omg this thing has much better front end stability.

    2:05, it worked. sounds like that bike isn't for you. it is the largest displacement 2 stroke they make and judging by your riding it is too much bike for you. all of your complaints can be solved by getting a different bike... you really don't need a 300 2 stroke to go through the woods under 20 mph.. these bikes are for racing or serious riders.

      @GladiusJon  6 лет назад

      It's funny cause I do race hare scrambles.. You must have missed my numbers 77J at the begining. Also the Top A class riders in my division Run an average speed between 19 and 20 mph per race. Sounds like to me, you don't have a clue what you are talking about..

    • @GladiusJon
      @GladiusJon  6 лет назад

      Im going slow as fuck in this video so I can talk. I cant go at race pace and do vlogs, It would be a word every 5 seconds. The Problems I discuss at the middle and end of the Video are a real thing. First I ran out of Gas during my Second Sprint Enduro. Due to Running Rich. The clip of me boiling over was from AMA East Round 1 Hare Scramble. I boiled Over at Round 6 as well. Its well documented that these are serious Problems that the Majority of 300s have.
