    I have been RVing for over 60 years. I've owned 7 self contained full size RVs. I do all my maintenance and repairs including engines. Added to this I've owned a trucking company comprised of Peterbilts, KWs, and Whites. So often I go nuts when I hear misinformation spewed by self proclaimed experts......BUT When you publish any technical video I sit down and pay attention. Your explanations and descriptions are presented in a way that most everyone can understand and apply to their own RV and situation. Mark, I really appreciate and respect you and your videos and I look forward to each new presentation. I hope to go full time in the next year and hope our paths cross.

    Excellent video. Our coach was overloaded on the front axle from the factory. It's concerning to me that this could occur in a Wanderlodge, but other manufacturers, from time to time, have had this same issue. I have documentation, from a recall, of our exact front axle weight, with full water and fuel, taken back in 2005, after updates mandated by the NHTSA. Later, in 2015, Wanderlodge voluntarily updated our front tires to a 365. All is well and we have a great coach. Thanks for the video. Great information that most folk never think about. Thanks again Mark and Sue. I appreciate your channel so much.

    Always enjoy a good technical discussion. I would be willing to bet that 90% of the people driving, or towing, RV's don't pay any attention to what they are actually trying to carry with them, myself included and as a retired aerospace mechanical engineer I should know better. I have, however, had our coach weighed at all 4 corners several times but that was just for determining what tire pressures I should be using for each axle. My 45' Monaco has a 10k hitch rating and my F-150 is at around 6,500 lbs but with all the tools and 'stuff' I carry/stuff in it I'm sure I must be hitting 7K. Good presentation Mark. I know you put a lot of thought and work into putting your presentation together. PS, I won't open up the 'box of worms' about design factors of safety that are used. That would be way to dangerous! :-) I'm sure I must be loaded to the Max and am into some designer's Factor of Safety calculations somewhere. :-( Safe travels my friend.

    • @OurJourneyInMyles
      @OurJourneyInMyles  11 месяцев назад +3

      Working in engineering my whole life, I can tell you that design safety factors are not what folks think they are cracked up to be! They are typically 1.5 In the nuclear power industry, things have to really, really be safe. For some of our "heavy lifts", things were 12:1 safety factor. Morale of the RV story? Stay UNDER the RV ratings by as much as possible.

    • @MonacoMike
      @MonacoMike 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@OurJourneyInMyles We would typically use 5:1 in most of our structural applications for our Ground Support hardware but for the Space Shuttle Flight Systems that's a whole different animal. I agree, STAY UNDER the rating posted.

Folks can also go to one of these rallies and schedule a weigh in to see how safe they are. You will then know what tire pressures to inflate to. Check out: rvsafety.com/rvweighing

      Good move Peter. I have talked with plenty of folks that loved their gas coach until they drove across the mountains. I understand its a ton of money more. But why buy something you can't really use comfortably? Without trying to sound like a sales pitch, if you are buying used, buy from the right place. Buy as new of a coach as you can from National Indoor RV Centers and get their Exclusionary Extended Warranty so your repair costs don’t end up like mine. You will have no surprises,….and you will be treated at their locations exactly like I portray in all our videos. First study what year, make, model and floor plans you are interested in.
      Call Angie Morell, Director of Sales, directly at Cell: 214-392-1100. Tell her Mark & Sue sent you, and have her put you into their system for what you are looking for.
      Give her the year, make, model and floor plans you are interested in for her team to start looking.
      Remember this: Most newer, brand name, good Class A coaches are sold before they ever hit the sales lots at the big places. The folks that buy new every few years are feeding this system. All these rigs are invisible to the average person and they miss out on them!

Not to get into the weeds but an added piece of info would be to make sure that your blue ox or equivalent tow bar is also rated for your hitch and not a weigh that is close to the weight of your vehicle. Good video you guys 😊 but how many people really understand the weight of rig and tow car just saying I don't think they check it 🤔

      I agree that folks sometimes don't deal with it until it starts to cause issues. Manytimes, that is too late, and can be unsafe & expensive to change.

    I wonder is 450HP is enough for a RV of your size. Thx

      Yes,........it is perfect 99.9% of the time, and not enough only when in the mountains pulling a heavy car or stacker trailer. But the 605hp would price the Dutch Star out the window, and not be a good match. Mine in a 2014. The new DS 450hp and many of the models AFTER my year have a 3 stage Jake Brake. That is all I wish I had. The two stage I have is too much sometimes, and the other setting is too little!

      Newer Dutch Star is much heavier, one of the reasons for the 365 front tires. A number of owners of newer DS complain of poor performance and lower fuel mileage. You pay a price for weight

    How much of that 2000lbs of personal stuff belongs to Sue? 🫢😆

      I (Mark) have a lot of hair care products, mostly for my nose & ears. But Sue does collect crystals when she goes to mines digging for them every time we are in the Hot Springs Arkansas area!
