I am 76. Just started driving last year. Once I get behind the wheel I just love it. Will not let my husband drive. He sleeps imagine that. On our way to Mesa AZ as via southern interstate 10. Drove 7 hours today. It is really easy. My challenges are the gas stations. I try to find truck plazas. Been in some really good pickles. The trick is to have my husband get out and use our phones to help me. I learned this technique from a guy at a resort in California . After he helped me back into my camping spot he gave me confidence. I now do all the driving and my husband is okay with that. Keep on driving. You can do this. ❤️❤️
I sure would love to see more videos of Stacy driving. It’s a confidence booster for us ladies that want to own a class a but are nervous about driving it.
Hello. I have just found your channel. I am a retired Police Officer from Ohio and I travel America in a RV. I have a 2018 Renegade Ikon 45' coach, pulling a 24' stacker trailer with my toys in it. Watching you learning how to drive is, well funny. It is very important that you learn how to drive your coach. If God forbid something were to happen to your husband you would need to know how to drive it. Keep the rubber on the road. God bless.
I do all the driving - I love it. Husband dozes or enjoys the scenery. When he does take the wheel to let me rest, HE gets sleepy too! and I have to take over after a short break. We sold our motorhome in 2018 because we couldn’t use it enough, but now we’re retired, and looking for another one. I can hardly wait.
You scared cat, yyou did just fine and you have a great teacher! Like he has told you, it gets better everyday you drive some more. Keep that smile every mile.
You did a fantastic job just remember that your hips are your starting point for the turn and always use your mirrors it's just like driving your car but bigger there are other videos out there too on driving the rig it's best to know how just in case Phil can't drive safe travels
We are always worried about Phil not being able to drive. His back has gone out more than once since we hit the road so I gotta be able to drive if its moving day and we cant stay. Thanks for the tips. I dont know why I kept looking behind me like it was really helpful! At least I never looked over my right shoulder! lol
My daddy always told me that all drivers in the house need to learn how to drive all vehicles owned by the family. That’s what I’m going to do! My then 16 year will learn to drive our rig before we head to Alaska in 2020. I’m hoping by teaching her young she will be less nervous..... You did great!
We have a Chevy Express 3500 and currently a pop up. But we are getting a new to us toy hauler this year. Just have to find it. We are debating on the Jayco Octane SL 161 or 222.
AWESOME! You faced your fears and did it any way! Great job. The more you drive the more you will find your groove. I can remember my greatest fear was this extremely curved mountain road heading to Yosemite . I knew if I did not drive it with our 21’ and flat towed Jeep, I would always be scared. So I did it... cannot say I wasn’t petrified the whole way but once it was done I knew I could pretty much drive anywhere. Mike and I take turns in 2 hour shifts so he gets a rest along the trip. So excited for you on this win! Keep on driving cause practice makes it a piece of cake😍
Thanks I drove my first lesson 10 miles to the left to the left next lesson will be turning right then some hills before any traffic but I have learned some already thanks Have much fun always
Congrats on overcoming your fear, taking the challenge and a solid first step towards learning something new and building the confidence to do it! Two tips I'll give you. When your backing, the longer the wheel base, the slower it responds, so don't make large turns unless you really need to, say when you are making the initial turn into the spot. Once your fairly close to straight, a 1/4 turn is the most you need to make to adjust your angle. Just use patience and wait and the end will come around. Second, When your backing, if you put your hand at the top of the wheel, and move your hand the direction you want the back of the RV to go, you'll never turn it the wrong direction, which is always a challenge for drivers when their backing something new. It's the opposite if you have a trailer hooked up. Hand at the bottom of the wheel. CONGRATS AGAIN! Breath Deep, take your time, one step at a time and before you know it, your be pulling a shift driving some of those highway miles as a new milestone!
I'm a school Bus driver and I Love love love it! When we got a motorhome my husband had me drive it one day and I was scared to death but after I drove it that first time I would not let him drive it anymore. That was my baby! That's why I'm a school bus driver now. I am having so much fun!
Oh, girl, I feel your terror. I test drove a short Class A yesterday down a four way highway in Oklahoma where there's plenty of room. I did not drive it back into town to the dealership. My hubby got lucky and saw an opportunity to simply pull through an adjacent parking lot and park it back in the exact same spot we pulled out. You did GREAT and, yes, by great I mean no one died, nothing was damaged, and you arrived back at your site safe and sound. Practice makes mastery! You're my shero and I really needed this encouragement today. Thank you.
Awesome! You rock! You were scared but still jumped into the drivers seat! Whoop! Whoop! I have a lot more practice to do before I am at ease behind the wheel.
Nice job. Tip My wife is also vertically challenged so she made a cushion that slips over the seat back and moves her 4" forward while still letting her be supported.
Thank you so much for this! We've had our RV since June of 2020, I have never driven it....Now my hubby is off on a biz trip that has been extended and I have to drive it! I can do it, thanks for the motivation!
Congrats... I decided to buy my Motorhome 36' foretravel diesel pusher in Florida and I live in Wisconsin. I did watch the RVgeeks videos because I was having anxiety about driving the MH and crashing it on the drive back 1200 miles. Well I did have a guy yell out his window at me and suggest a few things but other then that, I did learn how to drive it after 1200 miles. I had no choice it was just me. I had to back up in very tight spots without a backup camera since it stopped working and no damages to me or anyone else. I still have a bit of nerves but will drive anywhere I need to be now. thanks for the video... glad I wasn't the only one who was a bundle of nerves when I first started. Happy New year!
That is awesome Kathie! You really are an inspiration. I gotta keep going to build up more confidence! Happy New Year to you as well. Be safe out there
Oh you will do it... watching you is exactly how I felt. If I did it you certainly will with flying colors! I kept telling myself that the adrenaline spike was nature's way of letting me know I was still alive LOL
Well done! I solo now in my 22 ft Leisure Travel Van. I had driven it from the beginning, but husband always backed it in. He died and I had no choice if I wanted to travel in my van. I’m glad I learned. Bravo for learning. Have a friend who rode in the the passenger seat in their 40 ft bus until her husband became ill on a trip and if they were to get home, she had no choice but get behind the wheel with only him giving advice from the sofa. She got them home, but she recommended not learning by having to do it with no practice !
The only way to overcome fear is to stare it down and you did that fantastically. Great job. You are an encouragement to anyone with fear or anxiety about driving their big rig.
It was a parade field on the base. It is used for their motorcycle training course so the cones were out there. And it was the holidays so most of the military are on leave. We got really lucky!
Stacey!! Great job!! I drove a prison bus for 16 years as a corrections officer and I think you did great. You have a great teacher. DON’T QUITE you got this . Thanks for the videos we love them.
Well done Stacy just loved the expression on your face when you were driving on the RV park with the sun glare, keep it up and give Phil a rest from driving.
I wish I had a quiet, empty set of roads nearby for the practice on...you guys found a sweet spot for that! So awesome! I'm scared, but also very excited about it! I know I can do it...
You did great !! I drove school bus for 3 years …. It was the best driving school ever. Remember, Don’t concentrate just on the driver side, check every mirror every 10 sec or so. And hip , hip , hip. You guys are great !! Phil, is so patient. I’m so trying to get my wife of 45 yrs to RV it. I’ll do the driving. LOL 😂
You did a good job for the first time. When we bought out 45 fter in 17, we both took the RV driving school and learned a lot. We had to weave between cones, both forwards and in reverse, back in, parallel park, and finally on streets, in town, and on the highway. It is important that you are comfortable, and 1-2 hours at a time is a great start.
Phil your patient too. Stacy you just have to practice because you need to be able to do this. If something happened to Phil, God forbid, you have to be confident/competent to take over. It was much harder to be a NP, you got this.
I've made a practice at looking through my driver side mirror to make sure my back wheels are not over the line, and not crowding the cars on that side when going down the road.
There is always the possibility an emergency could come up where YOU need to drive. We don’t like to think about it and we think nothing will ever happen but being prepared is better than not. We did the same thing, went to a school parking lot and I made my wife drive, back, and park until se felt somewhat comfortable. Now if I do some bone headed thing like trip over something at a camp site and injure my leg at least we can get home and OH yes she had to learn how to disconnect Everything, also. YOU go Girl!
Great job to both of you. Stacy, congrats on getting behind the wheel. Phil, you make the best instructor. Such calm patience and instructions. I think you could succeed in teaching anyone to drive with the patience you had. Love the camaraderie between both of you.
Great job! Remember when backing always keep your spotter in view. If you lose sight stop. You n the trucking industry we use G.O.A.L. Get out and look before backing. Don’t forget to check overhead as well!.
Great job! I could feel you nerves as I learned to drive an 18 wheeler 20 years ago at the age of 49. Keep practicing and try to keep your hands at 10 & 2 or 9 &3 positions. Reason is that you have better control and should the airbag deploy hopefully it will keep you arms from being broke.
I'd like to get super C because the wheels are in front instead of behind you,i use to back in a suburban in our driveway, my mother was smaller than Stacy and she would take my truck and go to the store and back it in to,she was a country girl and got her chauffer's license back in the mid to late 50's before I was born,my mom was hell on wheels.;)
@ 3:40 min I found myself under my desk trying to tune in my AM radio listening for the emergency broadcast system telling me where the nearest Civil Defence fallout shelter was located 😁
@@todayissomeday I was just kidding, you did great. I'am licensed for class "A" with endorsements for triple trailer's, combination, tanker, hazardous materials etc ..(TIP)...This may not sound right but, when your behind the wheel of sizeable pieces of machinery, be Offensive, if your defensive, you'll get yourself into trouble. And always keep this in mind. If your on the freeway and someone drifts towards you or is about to hit you, "NEVER TRY TO AVOID THEM, LET THEM HIT YOU", if you veer off to avoid them, guess what?, your more than likely to cause an accident by trying to avoid one, then your the negligent driver. I have been licensed by Viking freight system back in the 90's, drove Semi trucks for 10 yrs haven't had a ticket or accident EVER.. "knock on wood". Never let the equipment intimidate you, let it intimidate the driver next to you.
I think you did an awesome job. I'm just now starting to watch all your amazing adventures. The wife and I will be starting ours on October 11th 2024. Thank you for sharing all your adventures wit us. 😊
You have inspired me to get my wife to drive our Super C. Stacy, I hope you have gotten some time behind the wheel since you made this video. Good job.
kickin' butt Stacey!!! Yeah!! Way to go!! And Phil, way to support and help her get comfortable! And of course, Gizmo.....always riding shotgun! Great video!
Thank you Stacy! I am seriously considering a 40’ Diesel pusher and this helped a great deal. I’ve driven a 35’ already and it was easier than I thought but it was a short test drive. Thanks Phil for the education and key terms. I want to be a safe RVer.
Great job!! I have a 45' DP which has its issues with tight turns. I could not get my wife to practice in a parking lot. I finally got her to drive the highway from rest area to rest area. She did great too. I really like the idea of you guys did in the parking lot. Keep driving Stacy!!!
Stacy, you're an inspiration. My husband and I are talking about buying a 5th wheel. He can't drive many cars (health-related reasons) so I'd be the primary driver and that makes me nervous. Keep it up! You did great!
Nice Job Stacy! Brian taught me the same way. It’s nerve-wracking but he reminds me it just takes practice. Hope to see you and Phil on the road some day.
We just bought our first class A and I'm going to be learning to drive it and just like you , I'm going to getting over my anxiety!!! Thanks for doing this for me!
Even though your deodorant clocked out you didn't! You rock! Learning to drive a huge rig is scary, intimidating, daunting, exhilarating, and empowering all at the same time . You done did good!
I'm picking up my Tiffin 37pa this week and will have to drive it 260 miles home... Never driven one but I have a 40 ' toyhauler now. Looking forward to it...don't have many sharp turns..lots of interstates. Already have a practice parking lot picked out at home..
Good job driving, it took me about 18 years before I ever drove our truck towing the travel trailer. I hate the sway while on the highway and I do not like driving in the city at all. But, I am getting there.
Ok good job stacy...now as being a truck driver since 1980 I do have some concerns..see I learned like your doing just had to get in there an do it...but in today's world truck drivers have to go thru training and such to drive the truck..the rv of today are not much lighter than the rig we drive especially when they are pulling 30 foot trailers loaded down with stuff..lol I wish there were some courses new rv owners had to take at least get the just of the rig..they are big and heavy ...off my soap box..you did good...we are new rv owners my wife Tracy and I do team drive in the 18 wheel truck to make our living...we bought us a Safari Serengeti almost brand new 1996 model and we love it..I enjoy watching your channel. Keep up the good work and for the life of me I cant recall your husband's name I'll go back and look when I get done with this.. thank you for your service to our country..
Our 32 ft Class C has a small one and I use it all the time with mirrors. we are getting our Jeep Liberty done as a flat tow so before our Texas trip we all have to practice with driving it towing it. All new experience. By the way My husband is a Navy Retired Veteran...GO NAVY!!!!
GREAT VIDEO!! You two are sooooo funny!! I feel your anxiety, Stacy, but you were awesome and a huge inspiration to me!! We used to camp years ago with a full size van and a large pop-up camper. I could back the camper up in our driveway with a car on the other side and thought I could handle anything! Now it's close to 20 years later and we're getting back into camping. We are both retiring this November (WOOHOO!!!) and plan to travel. We have a 2018 Ford F-150 extended cab and a 2018 dual-axle Prime Time Avenger ATI 21RBS (27' from ball to bumper). The total length for both vehicles is 46 feet. My unexperienced hubby, like yours, didn't have a choice but to jump in and drive. I know that I need to learn to drive it but I'm scared to death!! However, I'm going to pull on my big girl panties and do it!! Wish me luck!! Safe travels & happy camping!! :o)
With your past experience I am sure you will do just fine! Sounds like you just need a little practice and confidence. Thrown in those big girl panties and get to it! You can do it!!
I have a recommendation for you. For those turns where its hard to see how close the nose of the coach is to an obstacle, put a convex mirror on the bracket that supports your side mirrors. I had to fabricate a special mount for mine so it would give the best view of the front of the RV. I can also see the right front(passenger side) corner so I "know" right where objects(like my neighbors mailbox or a parked car) is at. I put it on there primarily to make judging where the front of the motor home was easier so as not get dinged(failed) on the RV driving license exam. You have to stop close to a line on the pavement without being to far away or going over it. My neighbor who lives about a half mile away was failed for this(it's the first maneuver you do) and had to leave, drive 70 miles home and come back at a later date. I did not want that outcome. It works so well I'm for sure going to put one on the drivers side as well. If you would like a picture of the mount I made let me know. It won't win any beauty contest but works great. Where did Stacy do her practice driving, that looked like a perfect place, lots of roads, and not much traffic. Safe travels.
Thank you for the tip. It is a great idea! It was actually a parade field on the base. It is used for their motorcycle training course so the cones were out there. And it was the holidays so most of the military are on leave. We got really lucky!
I’m planning on buying a lite- weight travel trailer and pulling it with my SUV. I’m nervous about learning to hitch, tow and backup! But I decided if others can do...so can I!
@@todayissomeday It was fun and beautiful! It was easy to drive because there was nothing there! LOL! It gets easier, but I still like the straight roadways and I really sweat buckets if I have to drive in cities or heavy traffic.
Awesome video and great job, it looks like you were on a military installation. They are great places to learn how to drive large vehicles, not as much traffic.
Thanks! It was a parade field on the base. It is used for their motorcycle training course so the cones were out there. And it was the holidays so most of the military are on leave. We got really lucky!

Stacy you did great . Practice , practice , practice is the key .
I'm buying a 34 foot bounder tomorrow morning...NEVER drove anything bigger than an F150. I'm scared to death! Learning from u! WISH ME LUCK! 🤣
Great job Stacy. Great teacher Phil; great student Stacy! Keep driving Stacy, you’ll do fine!
Thanks! Just need a bit more practice!

I've made a practice at looking through my driver side mirror to make sure my back wheels are not over the line, and not crowding the cars on that side when going down the road.
Good call. I am always worried about that because we are so big.
Keep up the good work. You never know when it will be needed.
Thank you!!
What a great job on the drive "home"! All the turns looked perfect from here.
Thanks!! I was so nervous.
Great job to both of you. Stacy, congrats on getting behind the wheel. Phil, you make the best instructor. Such calm patience and instructions. I think you could succeed in teaching anyone to drive with the patience you had. Love the camaraderie between both of you.
Thanks!
Great job! Remember when backing always keep your spotter in view. If you lose sight stop. You n the trucking industry we use G.O.A.L. Get out and look before backing. Don’t forget to check overhead as well!.
Thank you for that! I just heard a horrible story about someone getting hit by their spouse while backing up!
Seriously! So inspired by both of you. Good job Stacy & Phil.
Thank you, Wendy!
@ 3:40 min I found myself under my desk trying to tune in my AM radio listening for the emergency broadcast system telling me where the nearest Civil Defence fallout shelter was located 😁
Hahahaha!
You did so well! I am so proud!
You have inspired me to get my wife to drive our Super C. Stacy, I hope you have gotten some time behind the wheel since you made this video. Good job.
I think you did fabulous! My heart was beating fast just watching!
Thank you! :)
Great job. I had to learn to pull our 30ft Jayco. My husband has macular and can't haul it anymore.
Thanks for the inspiration! The more women I meet who can handle their rig the more motivation it gives me!
kickin' butt Stacey!!! Yeah!! Way to go!! And Phil, way to support and help her get comfortable! And of course, Gizmo.....always riding shotgun! Great video!
Our sweet Giz! He is always there to help!
I am so impressed!!!! I was shaking for you! LOL. Thank you for sharing and showing your vulnerability! I learned a lot. It really does help us too!!!
Hello from Cabot Arkansas well done Stacy well done Phil for your patience love seeing all the positive comments
I love the positive comments too! It really warms my heart. Everyone is so uplifting and the good tips are rolling in. Happy New year!
GPT base, great for learning!
Thank you Stacy! I am seriously considering a 40’ Diesel pusher and this helped a great deal. I’ve driven a 35’ already and it was easier than I thought but it was a short test drive. Thanks Phil for the education and key terms. I want to be a safe RVer.
You go girl!! You can do it.
Great job!! I have a 45' DP which has its issues with tight turns. I could not get my wife to practice in a parking lot. I finally got her to drive the highway from rest area to rest area. She did great too. I really like the idea of you guys did in the parking lot. Keep driving Stacy!!!
Awesome! She has me beat. No real road experience yet but it will come.
Great job! I’m glad you’re showing other people it can be done.
Thanks! Happy New Year
Stacy, you're an inspiration. My husband and I are talking about buying a 5th wheel. He can't drive many cars (health-related reasons) so I'd be the primary driver and that makes me nervous. Keep it up! You did great!
Good luck to you!
Nice Job Stacy! Brian taught me the same way. It’s nerve-wracking but he reminds me it just takes practice. Hope to see you and Phil on the road some day.
Thank you! Please follow us on fb or ig and if we are in the same area let us know. We would love to meet up! Happy New Year!
We just bought our first class A and I'm going to be learning to drive it and just like you , I'm going to getting over my anxiety!!! Thanks for doing this for me!
I need to jump behind the wheel more. I am sure the more I do it the easier it will get. Good luck to you!
Cool! Great job, and you shared your experience. Soon backing up will be fun...
Thank you
Even though your deodorant clocked out you didn't! You rock! Learning to drive a huge rig is scary, intimidating, daunting, exhilarating, and empowering all at the same time . You done did good!
Thanks friend!!
You did way better than I did! I was shaking and sweating. My hand was so sweaty is slip from the wheel and I almost hit the cone.
I'm picking up my Tiffin 37pa this week and will have to drive it 260 miles home... Never driven one but I have a 40 ' toyhauler now. Looking forward to it...don't have many sharp turns..lots of interstates. Already have a practice parking lot picked out at home..
Congrats!! Enjoy that new rig and be safe out there.
Your videos are great informative and fun to watch . Love the background song 👍👍🙏🙏
Good job driving, it took me about 18 years before I ever drove our truck towing the travel trailer. I hate the sway while on the highway and I do not like driving in the city at all. But, I am getting there.
Good for you! It is scary but gotta do it!
I am going to driving school for my class c next week I like the hip idea congrats
You go girl!! Good luck!
Teach, coach and mentor...well done.
Proud of you Stacy! I never got past the empty parking lots in our Class A. We now have a 25' class C which I feel much more comfortable driving.
Thanks
Awesome job! You did fabulous.
Greatful and thanks for sharing look like fun and learning wonderful job to both of you
Glad you enjoyed it
Ok good job stacy...now as being a truck driver since 1980 I do have some concerns..see I learned like your doing just had to get in there an do it...but in today's world truck drivers have to go thru training and such to drive the truck..the rv of today are not much lighter than the rig we drive especially when they are pulling 30 foot trailers loaded down with stuff..lol I wish there were some courses new rv owners had to take at least get the just of the rig..they are big and heavy ...off my soap box..you did good...we are new rv owners my wife Tracy and I do team drive in the 18 wheel truck to make our living...we bought us a Safari Serengeti almost brand new 1996 model and we love it..I enjoy watching your channel. Keep up the good work and for the life of me I cant recall your husband's name I'll go back and look when I get done with this.. thank you for your service to our country..
There are driving classes for RVers. We have just not made it to an area where they are offered. I still may take one in the future.
Great job, you guys are awesome. Happy new year from an old bubblehead.
Thank you for your service bubblehead and Happy New Year to you.
Sweet!! Sounds like you have a great trip planned! Thanks to you both for your service and sacrifice! As yes always....Go Navy!!
Great work Stacy! You rocked it.
Thanks! I can only get better right?
We have a travel trailer and my husband and I switch drivers every time we get gas, Just keep practicing!!
Good job Phil you taught Stacy how to drive Ruby now you've got it made
Lets not get over excited! Baby steps! lol
You are doing great!! Much braver than me. I have night mares about driving our rig and having no breaks!! Ack!!
You can do it!
You scared me at about 13 minutes before I realized that you sped up the video!!!! JAHAJAHA
I’m planning on buying a lite- weight travel trailer and pulling it with my SUV. I’m nervous about learning to hitch, tow and backup! But I decided if others can do...so can I!
You can totally do it! There are so many women out there who can put all the guys to shame. You can do it!!
So so good! I need to learn how to drive.
Yes, we all do. I need to practice more. We need to be ready incase of an emergency!
Great job. Practice makes perfect. Good on you!!
Thank you!! I will get there!
Great job!!! Practice makes perfect and builds confidence.
Thanks
I white knuckled it the first time I drove. But, I did it- and we drove to Alaska! Good job!
Wow that is awesome! How was the trip up there? It is on our bucket list.
