    If you do not grease the key, ratchet and spring, the rear wheels can lock up. Make sure if you need to order the rear drive gear to count the teeth. There are the OEM Honda part numbers below.

    Great video. Mine wasn't self-propelling because the plastic shield that protects the transmission, had a big enough crack in it , that allowed grass clippings, and mulched leaves to pack around the transmission. That prevented the pulley from turning the belt. I removed everything, cleaned out the debris, and replaced the belt. I then repaired the shield with J B Weld. After putting all of the parts back on, it worked perfectly. Now, each time I use the mower, I spray the underside with water, to make sure everything is clean.

      I turned it on its side and cleaned out the grass from around the transmission I guess you would call it and now it works. It probably just stopped self propelling because I was cutting grass with it ?? Go figure.

    Ive got the newer hrx217 with the gcv200. My issue is the self propel wont work. The ratchets are clicking when moving forward with or without the self propel lever engaged (engine off). When i engage the self propel lever and pull backwards it rolls back and the axels spin (engine off). Manual says it shouldnt do this.
    Also the transmission cable wen engaging the self propel lever on any speed only moves the lever on the transmission a little bit. Maybe about 1cm ish. Ive tried adjusting but thats the max i can get. Any help?

    I have literally got just under 35 hours on mine per the digital timer I installed when I bought it last year. The drive stopped on me, and the wheels are locked up preventing rolling back. I hose the mower off after each use, and keep it stored in my garage. Really can't understand why I'd be having this issue on a premium product so soon after purchase. Maybe I washed too forcefully under the deck, but I'm only using the jet stream nozzle on my house. You mentioned something about a bushing that may have something wrong?

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  2 месяца назад

      I only recommend the genuine Honda clip. I had a hard time finding the correct size and a good metal clip. Most aftermarket clips are junk (in my opinion). You only need two and if you buy a kit, you’ll never use all of them. Just find the part number at a Honda power equipment parts lookup online and you may be able to get them in your local area if you have a Honda dealership.

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  3 месяца назад +2

      When the transmission fails, both wheels will be affected. You most likely just have an issue with the wheel that is not working.

    Can the wheel bearings be replaced if worn out of do you have to replace the whole wheel?

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  Год назад

      Check the parts breakdown for your model. Some wheels bearings could be replaced but some would only sell the tire complete.

    what did you use to unscrew the wheel to start with? mine does not budge

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  Год назад

      If your talking about the bolt that holds the wheel on? Use a 14mm socket. If your using a ratchet or wrench, put a pipe extension for leverage or whatever you have to get more leverage. I was using a electric impact.

    Is it normal for the rear wheel to lockup to stop it going backwards?

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  Год назад +1

      No and depending on the model you have? I have found it to be a plastic bushing on the drive shaft. I I think there may be a video out there but I do not have one. Look for a video on one with a seized axle bushing.

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  3 месяца назад +1

      The rear axle bushings are getting too tight that go through the frame. I know there are a few videos on your issue but I haven’t had one in to perform as a video yet. Keep searching you’ll find a video on it. I can say it is a little involved, but it’s definitely doable and it will correct your issue.

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  Год назад +2

      This video is important, the rest is normal preventative maintenance, oil change, clean or replace air filter, install a new spark plug every now and then and keep sharp blades. The machine will run for ever if you perform those tasks. Take a look at the drive belt and keep debris from under mower deck. Especially if your machine has a metal deck. Keep it clean underneath so rust will not take over. Thank you for watching, commenting and supporting the channel!

    Hey Brad, are you aware Honda is ending Lawn Mower Production? They will be permanently closing their facility & consolidating with another Plant. The Plant remaining open, builds Side by side ATV'S. Lawn Mower's and small Engines are done after 2023. Due to harsh E.P.A regulations. Just heard this yesterday on 'Small Engine DIY' Channel RUclips.

      Ouch! Thanks for the heads up. I was around back when the Honda Tractors were metal not plastic, then they went plastic, then they stopped producing tractors all together in the east. It does not surprise me at all, as the electric is taking over and most consumers do not want to spend the $ for the Honda. I really don’t even work on walk behind mowers and longer. (This video may be 1 of 2 or 3 I put out). Thank you for the update!
