I had that exact mower . Sold it to my brother. Every spring he'd call me all mad because it wouldn't start ,every time the gas was shut off lol
Tell that man to, whenever he shuts it off for the season, to put a tag on it to remind him to turn the gas back on at start of season. XD
Lolol
This video was spot on. I turned my mower on it's side with the carb facing down and oil leaked into the cylinder. If I was doing this again, I would turn off the fuel and run whatever was in the carb out. I would drain the oil. Do the belt replacement as shown in this video. Then put in new oil and turn gas on. Mine would not start after the oil got in to the cylinder. It required me pulling the spark plug, spraying some carb cleaner in it, removing the air filter which was soaked in oil, and restarting it. My fault for turning it the wrong way. Great video and an easy job after watching this.
I REALLY love that melting trick you showed. You repair guys are REALLY craft/smart/creative and resourceful when it comes to repair you know that? You guys REALLY know how to think out of the box when it comes to this stuff, and this is ANOTHER huge reason why I love watching your show - learning all these tips and tricks and thinking on your toes - really great stuff. You know that HEAT/Quench trick you taught? If it were not for watching your videos - I would have never been able to remove a sway bar from my car to replace the plugs because OF THE TRICK YOU TAUGHT ME!!! So - huge thanks to you guys - TONS of stuff you show - also helps me with repair in MANY OTHER THINGS in my life!!!
The t-nut on the back of the Allen bolt can be put in place with a extending magnetic pick-up tool
Thanks so much for the video on changing the belt on my Honda Self Propelled mower. You saved me hours and lots of labor. I truly think you have no idea how talented you really are. Thanks for sharing your talent and knowledge.
You come for Uncle Andy...you stay to learn something new.
Taryl doing a burn out and drifting a Honda mower.. gotta love it. Thanks for sharing Taryl. Wishing You and Yours a Safe and Happy Thanksgiving Weekend.. and Thanks for dinner.
I had one of those Honda's but with the large rear wheels and loved it. Really like the paddles. I sold it to my neighbor 7 years ago and he's still using it. I maintain it for him. I got a Snapper reat engine rider. That's a great mower too. Good video!
68yo grandmother have to fix my mower. Watched 8 videos yours was the very very best thank you!!
Love the videos! They remind me that you really have to know something to work on stuff. The comments remind that anybody can get to the interscreen without any qualifications at all
Awesome video. I did this back in April on the exact same mower I have. I could have used this video at the time, but I did it just like you did. I replaced the pulleys while I was at it. My mower is 5 years old. Honda engines are the best! 1 pull start every time for 5+ years.
Mine is 7 yrs old. Still 1 pull. Amazing.
@@aswilson5656 How about a nearly 40 year old HR214SX from the late 1980s? Or a Honda HS35 snow thrower that's 40 years old? I have both. They both also start first pull. That said, on my commercial Honda mower there's an access door for the transmission and a Honda HRA214, same thing. The decks on those are similar to the HRR lawnmower deck but the door isn't cutout on that machine I saw which is strange. It would make for an easier belt change as it's one bolt to open that access hatch, two bolts for the engine pulley guard and two for the transmission guard and just slipping the belt through its galley.
Heck, I bought my HRR216 right around 1999/2000 and I'm just now coming to this video as my original drive belt which doesn't have a problem moving the mower, but it has just recently barely begun to squeal a little when engaging, so I was researching how to change it if it should fail. . But my mower is still one pull every start 24 years later. I'll never part with this thing.
Well, that's good to know. Brought mine in 2015. Think I'll check the smart cable adjustment first, belt may have stretched , having to push all the way down now.
I posted above 2 weeks ago, but almost immediately afterwards decided to change the belt (and more) and used this video as a guide. The instructions here are perfect. I skipped the hot screwdriver and just used some Loctite super glue which dries pretty quick. Decided to spiff the whole mower up at the same time. So, new belt, new wheels, oil change, air filter change, new spark plug, new blade. First cut I realize just how bad it had gotten slowly over time and I just didn't notice. This thing now wanted to go way faster than I wanted to walk. Now I barely have to push on the drive lever. Only things I had changed in the previous 24yrs was the oil and the spark plug but now she looks like a brand new mower. I fully expect this thing to last long after I'm under the grass.
Thanks for taking the time to make this vid and help us all out! You rock! 🤘🏻
This guy is so entertaining to watch. Makes every repair video fun.
Picking one of these up today that runs for $50, but it's going to need a lot of tlc, this video helped a lot!
Thanks! The tension adjustment fixed mine without changing the belt.
Gonna have to check that out first, I already have gotten rid of one honda mower that the tranny went out (1st one), then the second one with the rear wheel hight adjust lever that broke! Got the rear end taken apart to find out it’s impossible to fit new one in! So it’s sitting in the shed in pieces🤦🏽♂️. hopefully my MS having ass will be able to fix this one and not have to buy yet another one. Wish there was a fellow veteran around my area in CNY that can help this 100% service connected disabled veteran (who’s also a below right knee amputee come over and help a brother out. These Honda mowers are what help me walk around the whole yard getting plenty of excercise. This messed up mower has me pushing it uphill, both ways, through the leaves, sometimes through the mud, causing light headedness and chest pain!
Taryl- This video is like a Christmas gift to me Thanks Merry Christmas !!!
I had a good laugh when uncle Andy knocked over that merch 😂. Great video guys!
I’ll be buying this Friday! Great timing
I just finished mine. I hope I had listened to you and glued the nuts 😅
Smart move melting those Tnuts into the plastic to hold them in. Glad I’m getting my dose of Taryl today. I’m thinking of increasing the dose. I hope Taryl can keep up?!
I always liked that dual blade setup Honda used, especially for mulching. I had one of the models with the xenoy deck and the blade clutch. It was nice that I could use the hydrostatic ground drive without the blades engaged, but it weighed a ton.
What did Taryl say at 2:33? Transmission?
It's pronounced "trans-mish-she-own" Sir!
Happy Thanksgiving!!!!! good to see you in Louisville!
This is a very informative video! I think I can do it with your instructions. Thank you for sharing!
Hey Taryl, here’s a challenge for you. The entire lawn mowing world is waiting for someone to come up with a good, solid modification to add grease zerks to the rear axle bushings on the HRX217 so they can be greased without disassembly.
I wish you did this video 2 years ago. You made that look easy.
Thanks! I have a 2002 Honda mower That I purchased new. Time to change the belt! Easy peasy...
Great video with helpful tips on the repair. Thanks much!
Thank you very much my friend for such a great professional teaching that you gave me, you make my life much easier.
Thanks again
Love the duel blade setup
You boys are slicker than bug snot on a doorknob! Enjoyed watching.
I love watching you guys LOL - you guys are a RIOT. I wish I could come over and drink some beers with you guys - we'd have fun :) Cheers! Thanks for the great content!
Great tips! I have to say though, the more of those mowers I own and work on the less I like them. They have a lot of problems pulling back due to axle bearing issues (they should have used real bearings instead of wrong sized sleeve bearings) and the decks can rot out because they’re just stamped steel. For the same money a Toro SR4 is a much better mower IMO.
Thanks. This will save me a lot of time and money.
Thanks for the awesome video
I got the same mower, I just sandblasted the fuel bowl yesterday.
cool something to watch to keep from going out and working on my mower haha
Soon to be my project. I appreciate it!!!
This video helped me alot thanks man!
Excellent video! Thank you!
Good job, thanks for this and your humor make it fun. very details, tip and tricks. I following to the T and it works.
I hope you can do a video on the one with the Roto stop clutch
Thanks, my little buck tooth pal. Love you guys!!
Taryl got that right " get that Double Play crap out of there "🤣😂😅
Mine didn’t have those 2 screws on the transmission thing. But fortunately this helped me get in there enough to clean the junk out of my pulley and get ‘er propelling again. Thanks! (That’s money calling lol)
Taryl
Well done
Always on top
I need video for how repair engine honda for this mower
Taryl, did you tighten the bolt up on the right side, that was on the bottom?
Do you have any suggestions about the transmission on these?
Always entertaining…👍👍
Uncle Andy is cool!
Hello whats the name of the tool you used to heat the screw driver. I need to buy it. Thanks for your video
amazing!! Thank you guys!!!
I have that very same mower. I have a question? Mine won't go backwards unless I spray lube the rear wheels. Any suggestions? Thanks Taryl!!!
When do we get an update on the wheel horse? I think that thang will be awesome.
Hi Taryl, Would you please answer one question. After replacing the drive belt the nut that holds the rear pulley on will not tighten up fully.
Hot glue to hold the T nuts. Been using it to hold nuts in place in those difficult to reach places for years
Did you had oil in it ? Or you drain it before you change the belt?
Hi Taryl, when I shut my Honda mower off it makes a hell of a screeching
noise, would this be the clutch.
HELP!! What are the part numbers for one of those 10 mm-headed bolts behind the rear wheel as well as the metal fastener/t-nut it screws into? I snapped one of them today
I need to say not all Honda hrr 216 are the same on the transmission pulley guards. On mine you have to take the transmission pulley off to get to the belt guard bolts. However, I just bent my belt guard on the transmission to get the belt off/on. Everything else was the same. Good show though..
For real problem. My 2017 model 216K9VKAA has the different belt guard. What a pain, and most how-to videos out there don't seem to address our version.
I see you got some Wera screwdrivers. Those are some great screwdrivers.
Awesome video taryl. Love the channel man. Keep up the good work.
Well done thanks 🎉
Love your videos very informative I'm getting ready to do this on a buddy of Mines mower. Now when it comes to those clips that are finicky tend to fall off could they possibly be glued in if you clean everything up and use a Hot Melt glue gun?
Thank you.
I need a video on how to jump start one of these new fangled Prius mowers i got down at Wal Marts Taryl?
Can you do one on the issues of the rear wheels locking up when pulling backwards?
Thanks for the video ! Good Mower, but also like all other mowers, there are problems. The Plastic decks on some never rot, yet are prone to breaking, Gear box's are probably it's weak point. Crazy replacement cost also. The Honda engine ( not this specific design ), but the one's on Troybilt or Toro, are good. The dual blade design (engine) are not easily transferrable. The Mickey Mouse clutch for the blade design,. . . why? All just my opinion (experience).
Nice job 👍
Awesome video. Can you do a replacement belt on a Honda snowblower track unit ??
Teacher Thank you
Is that the correct part # for a Honda HRR216VKA DF?
Would somebody please tell me what kind of lift is being used to lift up the mower ? I have been trying to find out what kind of lift that is. It looks interesting
Great video,, how about a video on same mower fixing problem with drive wheels not turning freely when " pushing " around ; )
Remove the wheels, clean grass from small gears spray with wd40 turn back and forth till free, followed by engine oil on gears and you are done.
I'd like to see this for a residential Lawnboy drive belt if you can muster1 up
Those mowers are a pain, especially when they won’t pull back
But they are the best mowers going.
My mower never rolled backwards, I thought it was a safety feature until I saw a video how to fix it. The axle key was installed upside down at the factory.
The Honda HARDY HAR HAR.... 😂🤣😂🤣🤦♂️🔥 Thanks Taryl!
Under your comment it says Translate to english 🤣🤣👌🍺
One thing to add to this video; not all HRR216 mowers have the 10mm bolts for the bracket holding the belt on the drive axle. The only way to remove the belt is to remove the drive pulley (14mm nut). Removing the blade and blade adapter makes this easier as it allows the drive mechanism to swing down after removing the spring and cable end.
hey taryl, could you, when possible, show how to replace the drive belt on a toro proline 21 inch. I have the model with the square type kawasaki fj180. it has both control for the trans speed and the throttle on the handle bar, it is a about 10+ years old, the throttle sign is green, the handle bar are black, not red
Model number?
I have an older model HRR2165VKA. What belt do I have to use? Manual doesn’t have replacement part for it🤷🏻♀️
The rear belt guard on my Honda HRR216K9VKA is not like your video. The two 10-mm bolts on top of the rear belt guard do not exist. Any ideas on how to remove the rear belt guard? Thank you and great video!
On some series of this model the belt guide bolts are under the transmission pulley. The approved way to remove the bolts, guide, and belt are as follows: First remove the drive cable and retention spring from the transmission unit. This allows the transmission to be rotated so the top of the pulley is accessible. Remove the nut that secures the "split" pulley to the transmission shaft, remove the pulley halves and spacer, and the guide bolts and guide. Remove and replace the belt and reapply parts in the reverse order. I FOUND IT TO BE EASIER TO JUST BEND THE GUIDE EARS ENOUGH TO ALLOW THE BELT REMOVAL AND CAREFULLY BEND THEM BACK AFTER REPLACING THE BELT. I STILL NEEDED TO ROTATE THE TRANSMISSION AND THE MOST DIFFICULT PART OF THE REPAIR WAS TO REATTACH THE TRANSMISSION SPRING.
perfect taryl so is there really a black friday sale
Thanks
Mad as a March hare!
Great video thanks! How often do those belts go?? First mower I've seen burn rubber!!😂😂🤣🤣👍 & I sub'd
If your belt has simply slipped off the spindle wheel, fast forward to the half way point to see how to remove the guard so you can slip it back on. Thanks to the maker!
Good job
Can you turn all push mowers on its side like that with the carb facing up and not have to worry about oil or gas leaking?
Pinch off gas with a switch or clamps.
You can do this with most mowers. The only ones I have trouble with are the newer Briggs with the plastic carbs, if you don't pinch off the fuel line it will soak the air filter in fuel...
Taryl I would like to get a better look at that weed trimmer clamp set up.
Dude, I know everyone is fighting for attention, but your in depth instructions, knowledge and attention to details completely makes your ridiculous outfit moot. Thanks and keep up the good work.
What length belt is that? There are some cheaper non-Honda brand belts out there that should be the same.
my honda mower has a clutch assy under the engine , how do I get the belt past it ???
JB Weld the T nuts in place, then do the melt thing...
How about a soldering gun to do the melting...?
Taryl's Hayne's mower manual.
We had a honda water pump at work and it got low on oil and pop wet a small small hole in it
Thank s!!
Thanks. I will replace it myself now
Does anyone know what size belt to get? I can't find it anywhere
Maybe a magnet on a stick? That hot butter knife did the trick tho.
Smooth move x.lax.
Taryl, you don’t have to readjust cable?
