- Project Coomadore - part 1
Glenn 'GT' Torrens can't help himself. He's gone ferreting at Flynn's Wrecking Yard in Cooma and found himself another Commodore to rescue.
Is it doomed to failure or is it a brilliant idea? Watch the video to find out...

Nice to see another Holden saved. Abit of elbow grease, she will be as good as new. They don't make them like they used to. Thumbs up GT👍
Nice work G.T on saving another Commy, your Project Bommadore inspired me to purchase my own project, a V.B S.L fact 253 P.S A.C car. Been sitting in a wrecking yard since early 2003 best I can tell. She's rough but worth saving. This one looks solid👍
write us a letter and send some pics c/o Unique Cars magazine!
I know where there is a Station Wagon exactly the same colour and condition just sitting in a yard, it was running when it was left to sit there and the motor was a freak of a motor. Just a 202 but purred like a kitten and so quiet when it was running. The motor must have been assembled on the right day😜
Go save it!
Looking forward to watching the return of this one like your last. My first "cool car" as an 18 yo, was a 79 VB poverty pack sedan. Vinyl seats, one mirror but you couldn't wipe the smile off my face.
Awesome stuff. We need mores vids like this from this yard 👍🏻
My first car was a VC commodore bought in 1990 and loved until 2000 when it was rear ended.. top car!
Thanks for another great story and feature GT, saving one classic at a time....looking forward to many more of your videos. Everyone give it up for GT...bloody Aussie legend!!
Just enough to get it out of here.... and do some skids!
The piss takes are great. You got some good mates.
Looks like a good base. Most people would not give that car a second glance in a yard.
Nothing like the feeling of driving a car out of a junkyard.
yeah they're a good mob!
Those old carburetted, distributor-fired inline 6-bangers (whether they be Ford, Holden or Chrysler) will always fire up after years left standing after you slop some fuel down the intake and give em a good crank as long as you've got some spark. No chips, computers, coil-packs or electronic fuel pumps & injectors to go bad, no multiple sensors telling the ECM to shut it down because something's not reading 100% in spec, fairly loose tolerances on the rotating assembly (compared to today's standards) and simple pushrod valvetrains that avoid gumming-up & seizing after years left sitting out in the elements They're just like old lawnmowers & 2-stroke outboard motors; chuck some fuel in, give em a crank & they'll run.
but.. I often find EFI cars (older ones 80s-90s) easy to get running too as they don't have as many mechanical parts - such as ignition points, carby floats, accelerator pumps etc - to seize, jam, corrode and give problems. The fuel and ignition systems are 'sealed' so do tend to 'store' quite well
The old blue 202... Just can't kill them 😁
Yeh man bring it on. Looking forward to more vids. Cheers Glenn.
It's a good car! Thanks for saving it! Greetings from Argentina 👍
hello! Did you have a car similar to this is Argentina? Maybe it was Opel or Chevrolet?
@@glenntorrens8988 It arrived in Argentina only by request. I don't know mass marketed. I was like Opel. Other models like the Kadett 'E',Corsa(second generation)and Vectra(first/second generation), was Chevrolet.
Another great episode gt
That VC is equipped with option pack 120 (3.3 auto) cloth seats, wiper dwell, passenger side mirror. rear retractable seat belts, they also had a locking fuel cap, drivers seat height adjuster & a rear speaker.
thanks for the info... you're right but the locking fuel cap is gone!
Good find gt. Looks like it’ll clean up well
Had a VB bought it from a Granville Car Yard in 93 with a spare Auto in the boot for $2500
According to the plates on the car rego expired 17 Jan 99
So 23 years slumber?
yes, in the video I didn't yet know how long the car had been there... but the evidence points to a LONG time!
Awesome save! Looking forward to seeing more videos on the progress of this 👌🏼
Nice work. Amazing. Look forward to following the progress
Great video GT, makes me want to find an old car in that yard and get it running
do it!
Nothing wrong with old blue the 6 banger, love ya work enjoy watching your videos. Skids! One wheel peels 😂 This time maybe check out you local PPG paint distributor for a bit of good old Dulon, sure you can tackle a Dulon closed door re spray. Not so much rust to deal with! Give it some paint love.
We are heading to Flynn’s in the new year. I’d love to do something like this.
Of course...but I think Flynn's is closed until mid-Jan so call ahead and ask
Nice work GT 👍
Can't wait to follow this progress be keen to see if you track the old owner
old holdens never die , they just get rescued by GT? look forward to seeing what you do with this one glen
What a great find. Being in a wrecking yard I am so surprised everything is all there. This car reminds me of my first car, a silver VH specked out exactly how this car is, corduroy trim, 3.3 auto in the base model. Well done for saving this car GT and don't listen to what Morley has got to say.
The Rego expired 17 January 1999 - it was only driven for 18 years........wow
Look forward to seeing it brought back to life. I rather like the idea of restomodding it, to some degree, but I don't know if you're so inclined, nor whether you've the budget. That wrecking yard is something else. I'd love to see it, but sounds like it might be gone by the time I ever get there.
With a quick rego check its actually been off the road since the start of 1999.
yes at the time of the filming we hadn't yet checked, instead we had only been told "10 or 12 years". Obviously we now know it's been longer!
Good score GT.
Pretty impressive
Find a car sat for thirty years and drive it out of the yard
Well don’t gt👍👍
the ol man passed away 10 years ago ,he lived out on a property 20 kms inland from Merimbula on a 300 acre farm covered in ti tree,he was a ford man and each and everytime one broke down it got pushed into the scrub ,80 plus cars all fords from XK to XC all styles ,utes coupes wagons sedans ,most blew out suspension front end parts from corrugated roads ,when he passed on a family member of sorts was named the trustee and organised a wrecker to come fetch all cars, that was the stipulation all had to be moved off the prop ,only one wrecking yard had the know how and foresight and they all ended up in Cooma ,the local wrecker in Pambula only wanted to pick and choose
There are two wreckers in Cooma... I guess those cars went to the other one...?
Great work keep saving them,
Cheers, Grant!
I love this, I wish I could do one of these cars up, reminds me of my Grandparents who had a red one, until someone stole it.
Toyota van at start of the vid has a pretty good message written on it 🤣🤣
a bloody excellent video guys!
Not the fastest car on the planet, but run forever . Oil and coolant Bah! Who needs em
The old Audi next to the Commodore is quite rare
The wha...?!
NSW 3.3s, I think they withdrew the 4 speed, and were only 3 speed automatics because of the unique NSW emission regulations. Not a bad old bus, GT
Yes, you're right! No 3.3 manuals in NSW for a while in the 1980s. And yes, it has turned out to be 'not a bad old bus'!
I can't believe there's no rust with all those pine leaves in it everywhere!!
...neither can I! Just one small patch on the drivers rear quarter
A few crop circles after you left? 🤔👍
You even look in period with Commodore
Youve earned a subscriber
GT love your work would love to see more of your stuff!! How can we see more of GT?
Bloody rippa
The perfect sized car to add a global V6 engine if it would fit?
yes the GM HFV6 (know in Australia as the Alloytec) will fit... but after surviving for all this time, this car deserves to be left original
She's a bit rough GT 😅
Yep! Anyone can do 'shiny' but this appearance takes many years to achieve!
my grandpa's vh 4 Spd vacationer wgn has been sitting under a tree for last 10 yrs looks far much better than this one all original. anyone got any ideas on how we can get him to sell his old best mate ?
maybe you could ask him to sell?! It sounds like it deserves to be resurrected
@@gtbeetles2421 yes I agree it does deserve a good new home & I think thats the problem for him in trying to find that respectfull person a hoon approached him yrs back.& told him how he would over the top modify it that freaked out grandpa & he said I won't see it trashed ! can you suggest a good place to advertise it ?
Wonder if there’s any Xds out there Worth saving
There are a few XDs, XEs and XFs in that yard if you're up for the challenge!
What is the petrol prize in Australia now?
I have a VC Commodore grille here for sale in Newcastle NSW if you are interested GT
I bet that would of cost a bit of coin.
RTN778 Rego cancelled 23 years ago
I know the plates would of been issued in 1991 in NSW.How do you know the rego was cancelled in 1999.Is there an old rego sticker i missed?
Nice work Glenn however it need a respray job & original am push button radio!!! Always gets me about some clowns that put cd changers in these!! Helloooo they weren't around @ the time !! Dickheads! Lol
