"Deepest darkest secrets." = mannerisms, quirks, habits, annoyances and weaknesses. Quince is the perfect character to not only portray what a husband ought to be, he also knows how to tell you about it. And he does it in a very humble way.
@ropi8739 he also means your deepest, darkest, secrets... as in the worst shit you've ever done that eats at you every single moment of you life. And someone comes along and accepts you and all the things you've done. Because people change, and deserve second chances if they show that they are remorseful and understanding of the consequences of their actions.
There ARE people like Quince in it. But they get used and screwed over. And it's becoming less and less worthwhile for them to be like this. That and because they're the main target of all the scum.
He didnt really do anything that bad at all. He was pushed into a corner really. I think it was more beating himself up because he loved the old man so much.
This is a key moment in any screenplay. A minor character, usually appearing in only one scene, who sheds some sort of wisdom that steers the main character toward their goal.
Thank you for bringing this to us. This film is a treasure. A true masterpiece: every character. Every scene. A work like this should be studied in high school.
What a great actor. Explaining what true love really is. Acceptance, no judgement. If there is judgement, healthy arguments and then total acceptance again. Love is that.
I agree. One of my all-time favorites. The critics panned Pitts performance, but please, he’s playing Death. He has no clue how to interact. I think Brad played it perfectly. Sir Anthony Hopkins, is there anyone who could have played Bill Parish better? Doubtful. Outstanding movie.
Before you can accept someone else's flaws, you must accept your own flaws. Most people don't even love themselves like that. The love that is within you draws in the love that exists in another. If you have no love then it makes love harder because the battle is not with the other person accepting you the battle is within you the struggle to love and accept yourself.
@@aqua6613 Truth but tis bloody hard to love yourself at times. A great line goes "No matter where you go, there you are." is what makes it hard. You cannot escape all your flaws, no matter how old, tiny or otherwise. Someone outside of your head doesn't have to deal with that. Many people do love themselves and that's beautiful. However, not everyone is given such a blessing.
Right on queue. All good screenplays have a scene near the end of Act II where a minor character has a scene with the main character to dispense some profound wisdom. That is what propels the main character to complete their arc in Act III. I really enjoy movies with great arcs. The angel of death learning how to love. Awesome.
There are people who play a part and then there are true actors. You would think you were listening in on two men having a real conversation. Great movie.
Watch this alongside "Legends of the Fall" and you'll get to see that even early on, Brad Pitt was such a talent (didn't hurt to play opposite Anthony Hopkins in both)
Death, who's never had a life, takes on human form, out of curiosity, to walk among us and experience humanity. Every person he meets gives him understanding. In the end, he finally grasps what we're all about 🙏🏼🤗
In stark contrast Jesus Christ came in the flesh; knowing all things and experienced death. To show us who we are as human kind and that death doesn't have the hold on believers that Satan would have us fear he does.
He cries because he feels sorry for his wife. That she fell in love with him. And he knows he doesnt deserve her. Maybe she loves the man who he could be but he has never rose to that potential.. Not yet!
He’s also crying because he’s always been a loser; a lovable and kind one but a loser nonetheless. He knows that HE gave up the information unwittingly that Drew used to bring down his father in law and got his company taken from him. He feels absolutely miserable. Not only was he a nobody before he met his wife, his incompetence has now cost his wife’s father his company.
Wow. 1 John 4:18 "perfect love casts out fear"...having watched this scene I truly understand this verse for the first time. Thank you for posting. Simply stunning scene beautifully acted.
That's so true... when my X and I broke up that was the biggest loss... Having someone in my life that loved me and knew everything about me... NO secrets... just open...

A VERY GOOD MOVIE,,,I WOULD LOVE TO SEE IT AGAIN..
Wish the video kept going cause of the following dialogue that just makes the scene perfect. Quince: Do you like me, Joe? Joe/Death: Yes, Quince. You’re one of my favourites. Quince: *Smiles widely*
So few people are honest with each other in this way. I think it is better to be honest and give a person a choice. You'd be surprised what people will choose to put up with.
My blue eyed charmer 20 years he told me computers all day imagine that. It's never just one thing . The highs and lows the good days and bad days. That's love.
When he say that he is "loved" and loses it for a second was perfect.
Quince was such a good person. Never wanted to harm anyone!
He is the best character because he taught Death himself to do the right thing.
And he loved keychains. 😅

If this world had more people like Quince in it, it would be much more pleasant place.
It does, people just refuse to acknowledge it
There ARE people like Quince in it. But they get used and screwed over. And it's becoming less and less worthwhile for them to be like this.
That and because they're the main target of all the scum.
This world rewards ruthless, ambitious people like Drew and punishes sincere, sensitive people like Quince.
Valid
He drinks too much.
i like to think that years later, Joe stopped by to say hello to Quince when he passed away peacefully.
I can imagine that happening with Quince eyes lighten up when he sees Joe face as he passes through time
So great when a minor character still gets to play such a pivotal role with a special scene like this
He was so funny in Three’s Company 😂😂
He didnt really do anything that bad at all. He was pushed into a corner really. I think it was more beating himself up because he loved the old man so much.

Poxa!
Why?
I loved that he always took care of his wife. Like the cake tasting scene 😊
That was my favorite scene. I loved how supportive he was of her.
The actor playing Quince did a phenomenal job.
Jeffery Tambor
Arrested development.
He was beyond exhilarating as Malenkov in "The Death of Stalin"
Dr Phil is a great man
Dr Phil

it is
I love it
Tamboor is such a damn good actor...it's the little things he does that sells the scene.
Great actor but a horrible person.
really?
@@troydavis705 why?
@@troydavis705 could you be more specific ?
@@maurolibre69 Apparently, he has sexually or verbally assaulted his co-stars. Jessica Walter's in particular
After all these years. Still my favorite Pitt movie. It stands alone.
JEFFERY TAMBOR is one of the best supporting actors ever. The man is a master of his craft, knows the assignment, and hits the mark every single time.
What a great actor. Explaining what true love really is. Acceptance, no judgement. If there is judgement, healthy arguments and then total acceptance again. Love is that.
I can imagine the relief Quince will one day feel when instead of creeping cold darkness, he'll see his friend Joe welcoming him.
The long version is the best it truly shows what a great romantic passionate soul searching this movie is truly underrated one of Pitts best movies

This man had a minor role in this film, but made it into one of the largest and most important roles in the film. This man is a great actor.

so f'ing true
Listening to a person and Death having a real conversation. Brad Pitt is a star, but underrated as an actor imho.
Quince did more to save the day then anyone else. Make death see the truth and not take Susan (who is such a doll!)
i was trippin i thought that was dr phil😂😂😂
hahaha
Everyone on RUclips thinks this is Dr. Phil. When it's clearly Jeffery Tambor.
Me too😂😂😂😂😂😆😆😆I just clicked on this video to see who would notice
I had to look it up to make sure.
wait.... that's not him?
One of my all time favorite scenes.
This film was really about the power and meaning of love clothed as a whimsical romance.
This movie is a gem, full of precious moments
The way Brad just held his bald head was so sweet
Allison and Quince were the real love story
Agreed!
Current to Bill and his late wife.

Watch 12 Monkeys. He's phenomenal.

😂
Guess he has been making people famous since a the 90s too bad he made bad bahbie
This MIGHT be the MOST simple, yet matue, and thoughtful explanation of love.
Quince is a nice guy. Not the smartest. And yet he gave joe probably the best lesson in the movie
Exactly, the man has emotional intelligence and competence!
Sometimes it is the “fool” in the fairy tale who dispenses the deepest wisdom.
Great movie , very underrated.
She knows the worst thing about me and it's okay

This movie is a masterpiece.

The ferocity of that "Yes, I do"
Joe's thinking "crap, well that's never going to work"
