Chavez didn't care about promoting the fight, he just expressed how happy he was to see Whitaker again and congratulating sweet pea for been one of the best boxers in history. both class act individuals who had to overcome addictions. life is not easy for anypne.

I missed the part of the rematch
Don king should have done Chavez vs Whitaker in 1992, the last year Chavez performed at a top level. But because Duva and King were enemies, that fight didn't happened earlier. Also, Chavez should have given up his 140 lb title and looked for a rematch against Whitaker. Chavez downfall too was his stubborn loyalty for Don King and the WBC.
They don't make fighters like those two anymore.
What am I saying? They never did before either. They were both one of a kind.

To be fair, Chavez went low a dozen times in the first 6 rounds and that brutal nut shot by Whittaker put a stop to it
That ruined that fight, Chavez didn't fully recover during the second half of the fight. It would have been a better fight if those low blows didn't take place

@@OGFrylock Chavez said yes to a rematch, they were planning a rematch Don King for summer of 94 or bout for the welterweight title against trinidad. But Frankie Randall ended all those dreams. Also Don King seeing that Chavez was on drugs, kept julio at 140 so he wouldn't be killed at welterweight. Eventually Chavez left Don King.

Chavez built up his record fighting bums in Mexico. He finally fought someone good and got clowned by Pernell. Chavez is the typical Mexican brawler. He was never special. He was never the best at anything. Pernell is the greatest defensive boxer ever. Pernell stood right in front of Chavez and Chavez couldn't touch him.

The guy fought over 100 times. Some of those opponents are gonna be cab drivers. To me, that's okay. Everyone needs tuneups. As long as you also fight the best whenever possible, which Julio did, then you're doing the right thing.
