I never look through the viewfinder in the studio, I always focus like this. Awesome tip
I think he was referring to focusing by hand, not using Live view.
until now I still use manual lens to capture dancers and events. at 1st it was really hard until I discovered focus peaking. and due to experience i develop eye and hands coordination. and ace manual focus, I love the shooting experience but having AF would make the experience astronomical.
I'm still a student, i don't have funds to buy a new lens. I shoot for free most of the time. I have a decent working station that costs more than my 10-year old camera.
just sharing. It's really hard to grow because most of my clients are always on budget. barely making $10 each event.
What???? That’s horrible, where do you live?
@@Creative.visionzz yeah it's horrible, my PC costs more than $1k, I live in the Philippines.
To begin with, I would look at what kind of photographs this photographer takes before talking about money. And a camera from 10 years ago doesn’t mean anything, the 5D Mark III is 11 years old and it can produce a picture almost no worse than R 5
I am on the same situation as you brother, I am no more working to get clients as they are paying so less and not getting clients regularly as well l. I can't even manage my daily expenses. So currently I am learning graphic designing and will try to get a job hopefully and will purchase a good cam with that.
Great tip.. I'm not into manual focus.. I don't trust my eyes 😅😅😅
😂😂😂
And if you buy a external monitor to help you with focusing, manual or auto, don't go budget! I learned this the hard way...
I do this all the time.. Haven't used auto focus in months
Your way of explaining things is great! Just started shooting and you’re a big help and influence. Keep up the great work and content!!
that's exactly what i do rn
That’s why I like fujifilm. Instead of eyeballing it like that, they have a mode where it’ll have red highlights around whatever is being focused so you essentially just want to see as much red as possible for the subject of the photo. Though if you half press the shutter button, it just shows what your looking at
That's called focus peaking. Not just a feature on Fuji, but on pretty much all mainstream brands. Not sure why he didn't mention it.
This is one of the best tips I’ve ever seen
I like programming the button on the front of the camera to do this! Works like a charm
nice canon R5
MIND BLOWN!!! OMG MAN THANK YOU!!!
I focus like this a lot especially when doing macro photography
But what if we shoot film? 😶
Mind Blown LOL. Thanks for your simplicty!!!!
Good tip, though I think focus peaking is better. Trying to find the subject off center with the magnifier is not a fun chore, especially when you want to avoid focusing and recomposing when working with shallow depths of field.
I love your contents man. thanks
When I was a younger, I saw a RUclipsr do that in a Behind the Scenes so I've been doing it since I got my first DSLR.
I do this all the time! On my canon R50 the record button is basically useless in Manual mode. So I have it set to zoom so I can get perfectly sharp images, on my 1970s 135mm f2.8 manual lens!
figured it out recently
Cool one!
There is also focus assist which uses red lines around whatever is sharp to indicate it is in focus
I wish my Sony Alpha 7R had more focus control. Every time I manual focus it zooms in unless I fully disable the function in settings…
Life changing thankss!!!!!
Thank you. Awesome tip.
coming from a manual lens with sports photography, im pretty confident with my manul focusing skills haha
this is helpful!
Great tips ! I never thought of that ! Merci 🎉 By the way, i love your vidéo ! I've learn some great tricks thank to you !
My d5300 allows me to 2times zoom😅
I don’t have this button and can’t rely on my eyes to tell if the focus is right, now what
This guy has never heard of focus peaking
Usually you will get a feel if things are in focus when you took enough photos unless taking micro shots.
You should make a video of shooting film photography
Oh my! You just got a new viewer for this
If you are shooting with a zoom lens like a 24-105mm And want to make sure you’re really crispy try this: say you like your framing at 24mm, zoom into 105mm, then use the magnify button to further zoom in, set your focus, and then return the lens to 24mm to your original framing. Your will be completely in focus! Enjoy!
Focus peaking also helps sometimes
Sony - focus mapping >
Thanks man I still use my Tamron AF 28-200 But The Auto Focus broke and Manual was my Only Option
focus peaking is better
focus peaking when doing run and gun.
The funny thing is i have an old analog lens and i never shot with auto focus on my canon 60d
I'm still new to my camera so I miss focus a LOT!
I only just found the face priority AF yesterday!
(Nikon D3100)
Go get you a decent prime lens, there's some affordable ones out there, especially used.
I have a 3200 and found some older primes from a film Nikon, it's like having a new camera!
@@Tricklarock I'll be getting a Nikkor 35mm f/1.8 and Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 at some point. Currently on 18-55mm kit lens
@@lidge1994I've got only three lenses but I cover 18 to 300mm focal lenghts, while prime lenses are good for unlimited budget photographers it's better to use an 18 200 lens like the other guy mentioned
@@lidge1994 the 3100 doesn't do video, right?
I had found this on my Nikon
thats all I've been doing since owning camera. given that I can only afford chinese manual lenses at the beginning and now all I want to shoot is manual without even trying an af lens
I have focus peaking on a7iii make evryting on focus in small red dots. More accurate from autofocus.
On the R6 I believe it's 5x and 10x.
R6 and any DSLR I've shot with have always been 5x and 10x. I've always used 18-20mp bodies though, makes sense the R5 has higher magnification
waiit, the zoom icon zooms the camera screen.. who could have guessed that
Sony already has this in manual mode
ILY Anthony
Use focus scale, eye and learn blind focusing with your favourite lens
I’ve just started photography and I have a Nikon d5100. I don’t know to much so your very helpful 😊.
I want to learn how to use my camera for stop motion, you got any tips?.
Idk if it's a pro tip, I'm using that technique since I learn how to use camera
Why not using focus peaking ?
ok but what about focus peaking? 🤔
If only I had monitor+ Premium and no, I can't afford an external monitor
I ❤ Ur video men 😊 ,
punch in is actually kinda bad for focusing as you lose track of your composition etc... try focus peaking.... pretty sure even Canon has that.... or just don't shoot wide open... zone focusing is king
Yes, you can (and probably will) temporarily lose composition when you punch in to check focus, just punch out again and re-compose the shot after checking.
I personally use this technique a lot due to the fact that my Canon 2000D does not have focus peaking.
Bruh what camera are you using to film this
Hello Anthony , I'm a Canon user and I use R6 Mark ll for wedding shoots. I had a question about using a 3rd party cine lens does 3rd party manual cine lenses support RF mount ?
My camera doesnt even have live view ,i focus manual with m42 trough viewfinder
My autofocus don't work properly so i always do this
but what do you do during video, while recording, to manually keep your subject in focus? the magnification does not work after recording video. do you rely on focus assist, peaking. i feel like without an external monitor it’s an awful camera for manually focusing for video (after pressing record - which any external monitor will allow but not helpful when trying to keep a low profile). would love to hear you personal fav simple method for MF after recording starts
No prob. On Sony cameras, just canon
Honestly my lenses just focus really slow ive cleaned them ive cleaned my camera still no clue why
Which lens are you using to make short videos and what is your distance between camera and you?
Can Sony A6400 do that?
But this will only work with newer mirror less cameras. Not with DSLRs with an optical view finder
What r u doing pulling focus while looking at ur screen?! Know your distance and make ur marks!!!!
Some camaras don't work like that
Which model camera he is using can any one tell me
My Sony does This automaticly
But on my Canon 6D I can only do this in live view 😢
canon has both peaking and a focus guide... you should be ok with that instead of having to digi zoom up someones nose... 👍
"Canon users only"
If you can, use manual focus. So you will never blame AutoFocus again.
Doesnt work with the Sony a6000
Too bad im shooting witht the Nikon D40 with a 1995 35--80mm vintage lens. Guess what I see is what's in focus lol
Or, or, … just turn on focus peaking 😅
Or just turn on focus picking 😅
Basically useless for me when I’m using a really old Nikon D70.
Pro tip - zoom = see closer
😂
Right?!?!
Are you a beginner always telling abt basics brother
U guys have digital cameras? 😂
Alternatively: Buy a Sony. They do it automatically when you use MF.
Here's a real pro tip if you are trying to manual focus; DON'T, JUST DON'T
vintage lens users laughing in the corner
A pro tip....yea..sure...
not with a viewfinder
Focus peaking does my job easier
bro get a sony your video is focusing so slow
He talks like a teen 😂
what camera did you use? it couldn’t even focus on your camera screen, might be one to avoid
Love your videos but i always want to comb down your hair. Joke lang
Nothing new here
That's the least pro tip ever.. I would expect a zebra to be more pro than this one it I guess you have to try..
