WAV Files is one of the greatest rap songs in the history of music
My favorite song of all time 💯
Man the storyline he puts together is a masterpiece, making the elements of the universe part of it! Lupe is an alien man
If you want your mind to be truly blown then here we go
In the hook of Alan Forever they repeat "go Alan" but because of how it's said it sounds a bit like "go island". Island referring to the Philippines, one of the most major slave centres, of which the capital is Manilla, tying back to the Manilla slave currency. Also, in the Filipino language, the word "alon" - pronounced the same as Alan - translates to wave. Lupe is on a whole other echelon
jesus
@@RDrulez100 If it were almost any other rapper I'd say it was a coincidence, but Lupe's songs always have several hidden meanings
I know a lot of people picked Kendrick side on that lyricist debate going on, but I’m just here to say 100% Lupe is a better lyricist, which isn’t a knock to Kendrick at all. I’d say Lupe could be the greatest lyricist of all time because who can you really name who even comes close? I sure as hell can’t
Fuck sake
@@slackstarfish8133 Maybe Black Thought.
The day has finally arrived! I was lucky enough to produce for 3 songs on this album and I’ve been a subscriber for a long time so this is a wonderful collision of worlds. Much love Jon, you’re a force for good on RUclips 🙏
Wow. That's amazing. The album is a masterpiece.👏
Which songs?
@@dylancasalino637 Imagine, XO and Timbuck2day
@@Ivalentine49 oh snap, you’re THAT Ian Valentine! Dude, all three of those tracks have outstanding sound, your production was incredible! Imagine is like being taken into a time travel dreamscape, Happy Timbuck2 Day is a dope ass groovy soulful jam that fits the track so well, and XO is just a totally luscious beautiful fuckin banger. Thanks so much for your contributions to a masterpiece.
@@dylancasalino637 Damn man that just made my day, thank you so much! It was truly an honor to be apart of this project. I'm really glad that the tracks have connected with people on such a deep level. It's all I could ever ask for as a creator. Much love to you!

Lupe shouted your reaction out on his Twitter! Big respect!!
I cried explaining to my ex the meanings of this album when I was drunk
Lmao
Lol Wtf
I cry explaining to sober.
Scare the HOES
😂
I have always wanted to see Wav Files be made into a film - potentially animated - and I think it could be extremely profound but beautiful at the same time. That whole song creates the most vivid pictures.
Go to Times Nu Roman, he made a video for that song
WAV Files has to be one of my favorite songs from my favorite rapper. Can’t wait for the Tetsuo and Youth reaction
He already did it fortunately
WAV Files touch the soul every time
Testsuo & Youth his best project
You have the perfect attitude for a Lupe Fiasco album. You just kind of vibe along, catch what you can when you can. Lupe's songs are so in depth that I still catch lines years after.
This album is SO fucking good
And your analysis is so fantastic. You're the GOAT in this sphere
I like to think the whole Longchains myth is a double entendre since Lupe just escaped Atlantic Records when he released the album and was pretty much a slave to them and by leaving Atlantic he's "jumping into the water" and being led/saved by the ocean which are his fans.
The mind-blowing thing being that the Atlantic Ocean is between West Africa and the Americas aswell. Brilliant.
Longchains are characters as well like he had in The cool a whole separate universe he talked about it on his YT live
@@ANIIizNoGoud yeah I am aware I'm just explaining the other side of the entendre
The longchains also serve as a guidance for artist now. They went through what they went through so others don't have to. That's why it ends in mural Jr because the album serves as a guidance for "junior" and also why younger children are also longchains
Walking on water = W.O.W. WOW 🤯. The hook for Timbuk2 Day has been my ring tone since this album dropped over 2 years ago
Don't be scared of lupe. Enjoy the songs and just let the bars and metaphors hit you after years of listening. Like finding a new easter egg in your favorite movie
Happy Timbul2 Day has also been my ringer for years.
I personally hold this album at the same level as TPAB
with all due respect, Drogas Wave is better than anything Kendrick has ever made.
@@TheaAmbiance that is a hot take if I’ve ever seen one.
@@sifibruh7055 I said what I said.
His 3-day album is coming soon. He says it's his Illmatic and it only took him 3 days. Ms. Mural is on it and it's the finale of the mural trilogy. He is clearly the greatest of all time. A genius artist like this only comes around maybe once every 100 years.
Really hope it's what he built it up to be
And yeah hes my goat too
@@freethuggeryadigg tpab and gkmc are still better then every Lupe project imo. No disrespect to Lupe but Kendrick is just better in my eyes
@@jdgormo9686 Of course that's no question
@@jdgormo9686 tetsuo and youth is definitely better than gkmc and F&L is arguably better kendrick can’t be the goat with only 4 albums lol
As a double album from Lupe it goes without saying that this is one of the densest listening experiences I've ever had. Still waiting for Skulls, Lu!!
The ending of Manilla explains the accent in Gold. Slaves were bought with Manilla and shipped to the West Indies (Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad, etc) among other places. It wasn't just cotton. It was sugar cane plantations and other labor.
i just noticed that the previous song to "Manilla" is in spanish and Manilla is the capital city of Philippines which was colonized by Spain, i dont know if it was by design.
One of my favorite hidden gems is the hook on Cripple. Beauty is the Largest Obstacle to Obsess Diaspora and Sonnets (BLOODS) Community Resistance In Progress (CRIP)
Great catch 👌🏽💯
This is my favourite album of all time. If Kendrick or cole dropped this you’d never hear the end of it
Hate to say it but if Kendrick dropped something like this people be calling bored and mid as seen by the mixed reaction to his most recent album
@@flygod916 I think it depends on what point in his career
@@mitchiegotmovesy7635 nah I don't think so if he dropped something like this around TPAB era maybe but if this was before TPAB or after damn it's gonna get a harsh reaction like MMTBS
@@flygod916 think its just cuz the album isn't on par with albums like tpab, gkmc, etc. Initially when I heard the album, I didn't think much of it. Lotta good tracks but nothing that blew me away like when I first listened to gkmc. As time has passed, I have enjoyed the album alot more but would definitely understand if someone said this is their least favorite kendrick album.
Oh my god you referenced Lowkey! Awesome to know you’re aware of him. Would be awesome if you reacted to his music. Loved the reaction
Finally finishing the Lupe reactions up. Top 5 of all time and rare to see reactions for him.
Missing TGARA
@@SirBernardicus does anybody want that? there's like a three song stretch of meh songs mid album. i would put it below lasers personally
@@yoitscaptain the first 8 songs of FL2 are great, Lasers has 3 good songs, the rest excruciating
@@yoitscaptain It wasn’t his best work (also I think you need to listen to Lasers again lol), but it had some unique sounds on there. It was a bit over-fluffed though
@@SirBernardicus 2010s pop rap is my guilty pleasure so i actually enjoy lasers quite a bit, i feel the same way about Eminem's Recovery. Neither are my fav albums from them but i dont think they're as bad as people say
I also think this is his To Pimp a Butterfly. An absolute monumental work
I will most definitely Agree!!!
WAV files has to be one of the best songs i've eve heard.
I've been delaying listening to this myself- this is the push I needed. I'll listen along!
Same
i've been putting it off too, the runtime is intimidating and i know it's gonna be longer just to read what lupe is talking about
please react to A Piece Of Strange by Cunninlynguists. It was released in 2006. I doubt you've heard the album and I'm 100% sure you'd love it
underrated asf
Agreed, incredible album
Ive never actually seen a reaction but im so glad you did. This album is severely underrated
SEVERELY 🥵🥵this should be a diamond album but society and the industry isn’t ready for this greatness
Alan Forever still tears me up and sometimes i straight cry smh CLASSIC
The third verse in Jonylah Forever always gives me chills because I can literally see what Lupe is describing. I can see the car pulling up, the people rushing out, Jonylah seeing herself, his storytelling abilities are unmatched
Alan Forever and Jonylah break my heart so much too. So utterly devastating
Most of Lupe is going to go over most people's heads on first listen, but I think one of the metaphors really worth pointing out for the concept of this album is that Lupe has a long history with Atlantic Records, and thus brings in the comparison of the slave trade over the Atlantic Ocean. One interesting tidbit is that Atlantic Records once tried to give Lupe the song 'Airplanes', which he turned down and it eventually went to B.o.B, but that became a huge pop hit. There's no doubt that songs like that bring wider audiences to these artists, but there's a point it becomes control over the artists' visions just to sell more records.
Love the Lupe journey you've taken yourself on. He has lots of new shorts on RUclips, hopefully a new album very soon.
Lupe just tweeted this. You big time now.
I'm with you on feeling disconnected from this country mate. Recently saw a World War 2 memorial in Folkstone about how we took in Belgian refugees on the coast there. Compare that to how some people talk about Europe and refugees today, it feels like we've gone backwards. Glad you got to enjoy this album - one of my faves, Lupe is such an incredible writer.
M8 , you’re a legend for doing this album reaction. God tier album for me. Glad you liked it
Thank you so much Jon for not keeping it Patron exclusive ❤️
I'd like to hear your take on Lupe's Lamborghini Angels.
Lupe is greatest lyricist of all time 🐐
"She knows that I'm crooked like Owen" 🙃
Hi Jon, I'm from Argentina! I love your channel, I started watching you because of the whole After Hours era. And you are the realest. Now I'm keeping up with videos I hadn't seen... your spanish is pretty good! Great conceptual analysis, as always.
Unbelievable album, XO is probably my favourite track on it.
I'd love to see you react to A Piece of Strange by Cunninlynguists, one of finest underground albums of all time from a concept stand point and from a production standpoint. Incredible.
ooooh I like how you rolled that R in Drogas wave Senor Dentinho
new nas album is a great listen!! Defo try get round to it if you can
No skips!
Watched this on patreon before. Another great review. Really appreciate how you tried to understand the message and still reviewed it honestly 🖤
Woah did not expect this reaction!! Love it and glad you gave it a listen. One of the best albums from the 2010s
"We who measure the measuring tools of measurers"
Love that line
you should react to his albums that are not so popular, Food & Liquor 2 and LASERS. Id like to see what you think about these albums while he was feuding with Atlantic records.
Shout out to Lupe for sharing your reaction, congratulations man!
Now that Lupe is done, please listen to Ka, i'd do anything for you to have a Ka reaction on this channel, he's one of the best lyricists we have in this era or even period and one of the only names i'd put remotely close to Lupe's. I can DM you a guide I made on his music if you want to get familiar with him before reacting.
I don’t think he’s ready for KA tbh he’s on another level that’s god tier level MC
He really needs to listen to Honor Killed The Samurai
Brilliant album
best album of all time
My favourite album of all time! And Lupe is in my top 3 with Black Thought and Royce (ironically). By the way, have you been following this beef between Lu, Royce and Mickey?
I'll be honest, and admit I'm not following it deeply, but I BELIEVE the royce/Lupe beef is all a joke between them. They have a podcast together, and they're just trolling each other. But definitely correct me if I'm way off.
@@Obie. it started out kind of friendly but has since escalated to the point lupe said the podcast is finished. Been pretty quiet since the mickey factz Wraith track fallout tho
@@Obie. From my perspective, Royce has a feeling of being superior to others. I think that rubs Lupe the wrong way and when Lu challenged him on it Royce refused but continued to treat others like he's superior to them. I think regardless of the "beef" Lupe was over the whole thing and was looking for a way out that didn't make him seem like the bad guy.
Who came here after Lupe Fiasco retweeted Jon's reaction to this album
Community Resistance In Progress, People Loving Explain - CRIPPLE , Don't Ruin Us, God Said - DRUGS . Lupe loves his acronyms This is one of those albums that the more you listen to you see the different connections as the theme changes.
This album is incredible
Fun fact. This album is actually tied together with Food and Liquor 1 and The Cool and Tetsuo and Youth.
XO is the continuation of the Instrumental. Stack that cheese is self explanatory. Imagine is telling the full story of how he ended up here and why he isn't upset about it. Mural Jr. Is also self explanatory.
Favorite line from this album is on imagine.
"Thanks for the back up fans, what the lawyers can't do, the hackers can." A shout-out to the hackers that hacked Atlantic records to get Lasers released because they were blackballing him. It was so sick to hear.
SiR Chasing Summer my guy
Hi Jon. Once again, great job man. Lupe is a phucking super hero. This album will unfold in your mind over years and thats why Lu is the GOAT of lyrical teaching. Anyway, if you want a real treat...take a listen to Sa-Roc, The Sharecropper's Daughter. She is hands down the best female MC of all time and arguably needs to be in top 10 discussions for rap in general. After that you can go down her 12 album rabbit hole. Truly the Goddess MC. You're welcome in advance.
Alan forever is such a masterpiece.. using his art to reimagine the life of Alan Kurdi… tears every time.. same with Jonylah
Never noticed the blatant LASERS sounds throughout Gold vs the Right Thing to Do before. Hmm.
This project is so good. Not something I listen to a lot but as an art form it's incredible
One of my favorite parts of the album is the hook on cripple. How, I the second hook, the first letter of the words spell out BLOODS CRIPPLE. That statement alone can be unpacked into so much relating to the song
When you just stopped like, I can't even comprehend this, I laughed out loud, because that's how I feel sometimes too... Mural Jr. is in a class of it's own.
Having a Mandela moment.. swore he already did a listen for this. Well, guess it's my first time all over again! A rare treat.
Alan forever and Wav Files are two of the best hip hop songs in maybe a decade
please react to “black on both sides” by mos def!! it’s such a good album, it’s literally a bar fest. it has such clean production and it’s an overall amazing project.
The Unachievers please. After the Rain preferably but really any of their projects would make me happy
In the beginning, Lupe went from rapping in Spanish to rapping in Jamaican patois to go through the African diaspora; slavery in the Caribbean. Btw on the sound “Imagine,” the hackers to which Lu was referring was Anonymous. They threatened to hack Atlantic in order to finally release Lupe’s 3rd album. You can hear “anonymous” in the background when he says that. Also, you should check out Jim Crow: The Musical by Add-2 (he’s inspired by Lupe. You’re welcome in advance)
Love it jon ❤️
this album is so underrated. Classic material
You should really react to the new Jungle album, Loving In Stereo. It has a modern funk type of vibe and they are a British band. Also react to their biggest hit to date which is Heavy California.
Awesome listen!
Curious your thoughts on The Great American Rap Album
Spot on man, Lupe is the genius that inspired me to pursue music as a Rapper and Singer. This album and T&Y are heavily slept on!
Thank you for doing this!
Yesssss I LOVE this album!
i just noticed that the previous song to "Manilla" is in spanish and Manilla is the capital city of Philippines which was colonized by Spain, i dont know if it was by design.
You should definitely listen to Pharaoh Height. It’s only 5 songs. It became one of my favorites recently. There’s a lot of references in this album to it.
@Jon you should react to Nas's King's disease 2
I would love to see you react to Tetsuo & Youth It's his best album IMO.
I always said if Kendrick made this album it would be deemed the greatest album of all time. And you brought up TPABF at the end.
The greatest lyricist to ever touch a pencil
yessss
Silence of the Lambda (Lupe and Mickey Factz diss) ➡️ SLR 3.5 (Royce Diss) ➡️ Wraith (Royce Diss)
Finally !
nothing to do with the album but was anyone else oddly satisfied by how well Jon said “drogas” at 0:07
You should react to kings disease 2 by nas if u thought the first one was good this one clears it.
Lupe Tweeted this.
"I'm not capable of understanding all of this.." 😂
Tupac All eyes on me album reaction is needed 🙏
Young Fiasco, with the cash flow. Spit money like three 7's.
oh yeah he did it
King nas is close to a perfect song. Only topped by lupe himself when he released f&l and hurt me soul
Never been this early b4
Honestly if this album was trimmed down to like 12 tracks, this album would be considered a classic.
It would ruin the concept. This length is perfect, and it’s not supposed to be popular in the slightest, especially after just getting out of his label
Jon! YES!
Has Jon listened to Lupe's first two studio albums? Only artist with two of my favorite albums on my top ten! Love this reaction
Waiting for that Kings Disease 2 reaction now
I thought it was called Drogba's Wave for a second. Like Lupe was a Drogba fanboy 😄
btw u should listen to Royce and Lupe's disstracks (Silence of the Lambda and Steve Jobs
oh yeah and lupe's House EP
FINALLY
🔥🔥🔥
Wich was the death grips record you were talking about doing in your tyler reaction. the powers that b or exmilitary? (If you are doing tptb just prep your self for the abrasive punkier second half)
32:26 😂😂😂 I love this album. CRIMINAL that the larger industry skipped it.
This is probably my favourite Rap album of all time.
