The song touch's on his record deal but more so on slavery of Africans and the accomplices in the trade
Hence "the posidon apologized" for adding the slave ship s to sail across the seas, trees becoming the slave ship(warships) stars in the literal sense as they just watched this horror taking place.

Lol, I think Lupe's team is behind these breakdown videos; I don't think there's anyone who could put these videos together so vividly apart from his team. There's just no way.

He’s being way more literal than you’re giving him credit for. In the song the water, trees & stars are not representations of anything. He is talking to the water, trees, & stars as if they are people (anthropomorphize) & asking them how they allowed themselves to be used in the transatlantic slave trade.

There's also a story behind this. Basically, they would throw slaves off the sides of the ship if they were sick, to save food, or to set an example. The people who went overboard would pull slave ships into the ocean. You should look into it, I'm too drunk to explain properly right now.

This reaction is interesting in the sense that it’s an accurate depiction of how some people conveniently tip toe around the subject of slavery as if it never happened. The entire song was in reference to the Atlantic Slave Trade. Specifically the slaves that died on the slave ships and were thrown over board. He named every slave ship, the chorus is about the crushed bones of slaves washing ashore. I picked this video because I wanted to see an honest reaction to this very deep and powerful song by people other than Black people and you conveniently and purposefully disregarded the meaning of the song. Disappointing

Hey, have you ever listened to Ka? Ka is one of the best lyricists of all time, he's one of the few rappers I can put in the same tier as Lupe, I recommend anyone who's interested in lyricism to dive into his music, he has one of the rawest pen in the genre. Tracks like I Notice from A Martyr's Reward would be a great introduction in my opinion.

This song is about the trans atlantic slave trade and how some africans unalived themselves during the middle passage. They also jumped bc they thought they could walk back to africa.

lupe is directly speaking about african afmerican slavery... y'all he means we're walking back to Africa and jumping off the slave ships... this song is for us black people waking up and it's wild that you white people don't see it for what it us. even tho he mentions all the slave ships. scary. lmao. how you make a whole reaction video and totally miss the point. This is 100% about BLACK people... sheesh SMH. 😅
