Literally the first time I saw one, I had my sea-glide and entered the void. And it was very quiet... Then I looked down and saw it rushing at me with its mouth open. Scared the crap out of me.
I can't wait till they make a creature that just takes the defense system, looks at you like, "wtf?" And then just continues eating ur seamoth/seatruck. That will be truly terrifying
The only scary thing for me were squidsharks in that dark cave below twisted bridges where I had to go without seatruck. Everything else was not scary, because almost everything can't touch you in a seatruck, chelicerat can be easily avoided because of his extremely short agro range ( I literaly swimmed under his belly with a seaglide to scan him for 30 seconds untill he finally turned around and attacked me), Shadow Leviathan is countered by perimeter defense system you get from the Margaret's shelf for free, and Ice worm is completely countered by a snow fox, repair tool, and 4 batteries - literaly drove around him for 15 minutes and he couldn't do anything. I think main issue of why it isn't that scare and why leviathans seem to have such short agro range is because third of the map is land that has almost no dangerous enemies( only small part is dedicated for Ice worm biome), and half of the water left is shallow zone or labyrinths underground. Literaly almost anywhere except void biome, you can look down and always see the bottom, which takes away the fear of unknown
Yes, first time I played Below Zero I was just riding on Ice Worm biome (forgot the name) on snowbike, decided to stop for a while to get warm and then his head suddenly appeared from one of glaciers, roared and then disappeared back into glacier, I shit myself and this moment
If you know the timing, you can basically free yourself from any chelicerate or the shadow leviathan, completely harmless, with the perimeter defense upgrade on the seatruck. You just need to bring some extra batteries with you. I fear more the worms because I had to explore their territory on foot, while the other leviathans are like a walk in the park xdd
@@CoventSynth at that point the game is no longer scary and fun. So I think I would be done with that game if I was a die hard subnautica player. But I guess I don’t know.
@UnlimitedRageSpells I still replay the original, while I only did one playthrough of below zero for the Plat trophy. Below Zero tried too hard to be scary and outside of my first hour or two I was not even remotely scared.
I remember when the rock puncher was just a concept for base subnautica that was gonna chill in the sparse reef. I didnt keep up with below zero but its cool to see they did make it to one of the games at least.
The Cryptosuches or however you spell them became non scary when i saw a video that said they were "all bark and no bite" and thats when i realized that they have a terrifying roar, and only run at you for like 5 seconds.
The Cryptosuchus is actually more bark than bite, meant to be less like a violent shark and more like a black bear. Sure it could kill you but they're so unwilling to enter a serious fight that they will make one half-assed attempt before swimming away.
For as many shortcomings as I feel Below Zero has, I will say that I’m glad that they didn’t go back to relying on very many of the creatures from the original, and the new designs we got were just as high quality and well made as in the first game, even if there is a bit of a lack of variation.
The Crashfish, Rock Puncher, and Brute Sharks are some of the only aggressive creatures in the game that I DON'T fear. They're either really tame if you don't get close, there aren't that many of them so I rarely encounter them, they're too slow, or they're just plain annoying.
Honestly the only thing that scares me in my run was the chilicerate before i got the perimeter defense system. Ice worms are easy with a prawn (they just fling you a bit and do 5 damage) and shadow leviathans are useless as long as you time your shock correctly. You can avoid any damage from shadow's completely with a decently timed shock.
fun fact: the ice worm is actually one of the easiest leviathans to scan. somewhere in the area near the body part in the ice worm area (i think) there is actually a dead ice worm (or it’s skin, i dunno.) you can scan it and not only does it take less than a second to scan, but it also gives you the pda entry for the ice worm.
Cool fact: in subnautica below zero, it is possible to snatch some squid shark eggs. Hatch them and put them outside your base and you will have a couple of guard dogs. I have 3 already! 👍
Fun Fact: At the start of making Subnautica: Below Zero, it should be a DLC for the original Subnautica, but at the stage of making assets for it, they wanted it to be a separate game, not a DLC.
I like how a lot of people are like "the Chelicerate and Shadow Leviathan are scary and very dangerous in Below Zero" then there's me with the seatruck perimeter defense XD
