The Good + Bad TT Artisan 27mm f/2.8 for Fujifilm X Mount.

  • The TT Artisan 27mm f/2.8 AF lens for Fujifilm X Mount is a weird lens. It's actually really sharp, even at F/2.8, and chromatic aberration is well-controlled. However, this is a poor-performing lens in other areas, including low contrast wide open, vignetting, and serious flare. Would I recommend this lens? Yes and no, depending on what you're looking for. Thanks for making this into a video, as I appreciated the article. This was probably the best review I've seen of this lens though... and I've watched all of them haha. Because I actually just ordered this lens for myself, but it's not here yet. This is will be only my second lens for Fuji after the 16-80, so I'm looking forward to experiencing it. Though I do also shoot some Canon FD lenses, so the rendering might not be too far off what I'm used to!

    They're releasing this for Sony soon so I was excited and looking into it more. The insane flaring issue and lack of lens coating is a major flaw I can't get over. I like to shoot on bright days so I'm going to be passing on this one for now. I heard from others TTArtisan has flaring issues on all their lenses.

    The Fujifilm 27mm is just far too expensive for an amateur walkabout lens. It is good that TT Artisans have taken the fight to Fujifilm and I think the slight comprises in image quality might be worth it for the intended users.

    Thanks for the review. Far more pros than cons as far as I'm concerned. Think I might order one soon, and hope that the QC is better than with the 7.5mm Fisheye* I had to send back.
    *Optically the lens was fine, but the focus ring wasn't oriented correctly. To focus at infinity I had to set the ring at 0.5 metres, so scale focusing was impossible. The store checked the other one they had in stock and it had the same problem.

    I wish Voigtlander would make a 40mm f2 that was high performance, it doesn’t need to be APO (though their 50mm APO is awesome) but at least to the level of their 35mm Ultron, I would love that. Their 40mm f2.8 lens is just okay.

    I've had some of the best Fuji lenses including the renowned Fujifilm XF16 mm F1.4 R, and I can tell you that the Fuji pancake 27mm f2.8 is a great lens. It is really sharp and for street photography at f5.8 it is wonderful.

  • @pierrelaviolette670
    @pierrelaviolette670 Год назад

    I’d also love a sharp, good contrast 27mm f2 lens. No need for pancake, too much compromise. Should be more silent than Fuji’s 27 which is ridiculous. Looks like Ttartisan needs to fix the focus and sharpness on this one. I like ttArtisan when they do a good job but not this one from what I can see.

  • @toomanyhobbies400
    @toomanyhobbies400 Год назад

    I believe we will be treated to a high quality F2.0-27mm APS-C lens very soon. I see it coming from Tamron, Sigma or Rokinon. Two reasons why. The market has been saturated with more common focal lengths. They need to market something new, and the latest craze is to mimic a Fuji X-100V, by adding a pancake lens to your existing APS-C or full frame body. The price on E-bay for used pancake lenses has increased significantly. Sony released their trio of F2.8 and F2.5 lens - and included a 40mm. There aren't a lot of 40mm full equivalent lenses out there, but those that have them seldom give them up. So Rokinon, I am waiting....

    I've had this lens for a month now and it hasn't left my X-E3 in the time. f4 to f8 is really impressive for sharpness and contrast. The issues with f2.8 mean I've learnt to treat this as a f4 lens. On the other hand, f2.8 has vintage-like character and when used indoors at f2.8 people like the images I take of them 🙂so I'm probably too picky. I don't mind the vignetting but the flaring is annoying, and the only downside IMO. Overall, it's a keeper 😀.
