- Some of the best Bertram Gilfoyle moments from all five seasons of Silicon Valley. If you think I'm missing a bunch of scenes it's because I had so many great Gilfoyle/Dinesh moments that I had to split it into three videos. I like how every character changes physically and mentally through the seasons, but Gilfoyle just stays the same as a character through all the seasons

He doesn't give a fuck about character development.
Who changed?
His character growth is actually pretty large. The entire point of his character is his relationship w Dinesh and vice versa. He hides it behind his persona, but they make it clear his relationship with Dinesh changes from strictly mean spirited hate/racism to genuine care. When your entire character is written around another character, and the relationship 180s, that's as big of a change you're ever gonna get. This ranges from their cooperative schemes in the middle seasons to the very end when Gilfoyle grants Dinesh access to the server even after Dinesh made it very clear "he will do ANYTHING to stop the intentionally broken release from going live". Richard choked and couldn't make a decision, Gilfoyle was the only one who had faith in Dinesh. Gilfoyle and Dinesh saved the internet when others were too weak. Gilfoyle's leap of faith was probably the most character defining moment in the entire series. NTM the ending where they start a business together and are neighbors for the rest of their lives. That wasn't Dinesh simply "snaking" his way into Gilfoyle's life like Gilfoyle said it was. That was genuine friendship hidden behind a veil. Gilfoyle played an equal role in that happening.

I didn't see this series till after both the Spiderman movies & his Silicon performance made him unrecognizable. I had no idea they were even the same actor till I looked him up to see what else he's been in. Crazy.
The best part, hands down, is his reaction to the puffy lips.

My best friend was very much like Gilfoyle - a genius programmer specialising in networking and security. He loved the character, both for the excellent accuracy and attention to detail in the technical stuff, and the attitude of a true ninja coder forced to work among mere mortals. Would love to see Gilfoyle get his own spin-off series or movie, could see him becoming a guru at the head of a new tech-cult, based on satanism, total freedom of information and crypto-anarchy.
one of my favorite scenes in the whole series is when he breaks his glasses and has the cat eye contacts in so he can see lmfao when his head turns. ive watched this show start to finish so many times

One of the best written technical characters of all time. I loved him when I first watched the show and four years of studying computer engineering later, I still love him. Hard to believe I'm watching an actor and not a cocky engineer.

Gilfoyle is actually based on a real person named Allan Jude. He's a Canadian programmer who used to host a podcast called TechSNAP, where he would talk about recent cyber security hacks. He even looks like him minus the long hair.
