I realize this is supposed to be a joke, but it actually shows what little class and taste people have nowadays. She is wearing an evening gown, those beautiful dresses one never, except on very, very rare occasions, sees any more. But women wore beautiful gowns like this to formal parties or when singing on stage. We, as a society, still thought that each of us had a duty to look properly attired, unlike today, when, unless one looks like a bum, one is thought to be a snob.
It's called style, something the generation of today know nothing about. Guess you're paying more attention to the things you can criticise, and not to the lyrics of the song.
