Diving Sea Caves in Wild Weather

  • Freediving the sea caves in Jervis Bay was epic! We missed out on diving the best caves just because the ocean was too rough to safely get inside them. But we did manage to play around in a few of the ocean caves and it was fun! Scary but fun haha!
Afterwards we headed down to Narooma to dive with the Australian and New Zealand Fur Seal colony. The last time I dived there was when I proposed to Erin years ago so it was great going back. The diving there was as good as I remember it. Clear water, seals everywhere, rays and sharks. It really is one of the best dive sites in Australia.

I live on La Gomera in the Canary Islands, diving here every day, also apnea but mostly Scuba.
We get a lot of "Mar De Fondo" in recent years (climate change :< ...), a strong swell / ground sea building up from offshore winds and being carried to the shore even when there is perfectly calm weather here.
It is mostly annoying for the work with the customers, bad visibility especially in the shallow water, strong movement up to 20m depth.
But if you are familiar with the sea, it is absolutely beautiful to play with it, let yourself be swept through the water sometimes for several meters forth and back, side to side, being sucked through gaps and tunnels, swimming through water consisting only of bubbles with zero visibility like in a shaken soda bottle, the fish swinging back and forth with you :)

I was watching the 101 free diving tips video and I was wondering cause when public pools were still open and all that I used to dive down to the bottom of the deep end so about 12 feet but before I have gone 13 to 14ish feet and I could stay down there without my ears hurting at all and not have to come up for a breath for a considerable amount of time but now I'm wondering how can I stay under for even longer without having to really have to breath that much and how to eventually go deeper like sometimes I can just kinda of freeze and float in place underwater and I don't feel I have to breath as much but to freeze like that is quite hard for me to do if I'm activitevly trying to do so so I'm wondering if anyone has any tips for kinda more of just holding your breath for longer that may be less obvious and maybe some other less obvious of how to eventually like ease into going deeper and deeper cause I watched the video but I didn't find any of the tips really useful in my case
