- I've been having problems with the PS4 Pro Drive making eject noise and not recognizing game disc. In this video I try to fix that problem. Hope video helps you too, share it if it does.

Solution is to insert disc and immediately start tapping (not hard) right on top over disc area. Important that you tap before the reading starts. And just tap through 1st or 2nd reading of the disc (you will hear both 1st and 2nd attempts if you listen for it).
Unfortunately, the solotion in this video did not work for me but will hopefully work for you and that you don’t need to tap like I do. In my opinion, Sony used cheap disc readers that start defaulting over time

@@OfficialdysM False. I had this exakt same issue and DVDs failed to recognise as well. But yeah, SONY really cheaped out on both the PS4 Pro and the Platinum headset. I will never be buying a SONY product again.

You can also flip the console on its side (like the PS2 days) and insert the disc. In some cases the issue is with the mechanism that accepts and plays the disc. That’s worked consistently for me.

Thanks, but this did not work for me. I solved it with a can of compressed air right into the disc slot. PS4 Pro.
Was it a permanent fix or did it start playing up again? I have same issue ... tried everything but not compressed air yet.

I've had the same problem, and performing a system update did not resolve if for me.. However, I was able to temporarily fix the issue by placing the PS4 Pro vertically, instead of horizontal. You might want to try that yourselves if you experience the same issue! Keep in mind that the PS4 should be completely turned off when you lift it up and turn it, so you don't scratch whatever disc is inside or the drive itself.

@@deadasadodo1016 - In my case, the solution was to let it stand vertically. The disc drive then became part of the top half of the console and the discs where inserted vertically (disc label to the left instead of up). Hope this helps!

I recently had this problem, the console pointed out to me that the disc was not recognized, I tried all methods including tapping the console lid, but it only worked for a while.
When none of the methods finally worked and I saw Sony customer service stopped due to the coronavirus, I decided to take drastic action. All I did was disassemble the reader, clean the mechanism a bit, and then carefully reinstall it on the console.
And it worked, the disks were recognized by the console again, the problem is located in the mechanism of the blueray reader, I deduce that it is from the factory, possibly it also has to do with the Flex of the reader. You can try this in case you have the necessary electronic knowledge.
Like you I have tried all the methods, and likewise, the tapping method worked twice for me. I would like to know how you took the ps4 apart and how you cleaned it? FYI I have a ps4 slim

So this did work, however, it might not be a permanent fix. I followed this video about 5-6 months ago, but as of yesterday Saturday the 14th it happened again. I'm pending the update right now but it's possible your assumption of the disc reader going bad. Like this is an early sign of it before it goes for good. Up vote this so others see a current update. :)

also, my theory is to avoid leaving electric/heavy stuff on top of your PS.
(in my case it was a MacBook Pro I've left on top of the PS4 Pro overnight, the day after I started seeing the disk error)

Hi everyone, if anyone is facing the issues of disc's not reading, the two solutions I found here work (the solution on the video didn't work for me)
1. Putting the console in vertical worked perfectly
2. Blowing air in the disc reader also worked perfectly now my ps4 Pro just works.

I've been having this issue since Crash Team Racing came out also it started affecting some other discs and it's the OG PS4

1. Tap in the middle of the disc area and taps should be with a LITTLE force or more.
2. When you instert the disc help the console by pushing in the disc with a LITTLE force

I have this problem as well. Could it possibly be something wrong from the inside or is it precisely this. Because when this problem started my disc wouldn’t come out and after a while it finally let me take it out

It worked for me.. not only that it was able to play but it also was able to eject a disc that shouldn't have been there in the first place. So thank you. I don't agree with the tapping method. As it is commenting below. Your method worked just perfect.

I did all 6 steps on safe mode and nothing worked. Sony told me to go f*** myself when I called them because it’s been just over a year. Now I have a $400 broken console. Awesome. Going to have to perform surgery on it and check out the optical drive and hope for the best.
Jake Calatayud Ever fix it, it's an easy fix if you know how to open up you console. It could be a number of things but if you're lucky it's just a loose band cable from over time. Or a simple motor swap
geo man I took mine apart and found out I had a piece of paper stick in it... 2 year old must have done it lol. Kids...
The tapping worked just as soon as you put the disc in you tap on it lightly and it's should work:) Hope this helps

Eject the CD then put it back in again...and tap where the can will be inside..keep tapping lightly until the disc is readable

It happens on my overwatch then when red dead 2 came out I bought it and downloaded the data disc then downloaded the full game and played normaly the next time i turned on my (regular) ps4 then it get that sound bbbblabkknbbb then i saw the disc is not there nor the unknown disc not shown then I exited the game by clicking the button down the turn off button then I entered the disc and a unknown disc shown up
It worked for about a day the the next day it started back doing it. I keep doing it but it doesn’t work. Help!

So two years later...well if your still having that issue when putting the disc in start lightly tapping on the top of where you put your disc in only for the first to reading attempts. Signified by the load sort if rotating sounds

I had this issue for a while, and for a while whenever I wanted to play a disc, I had to flip it on the side. Lately, even flipping on its side didn't help and I had to shake it around a bit. Now I'm looking for a better fix.

I'm having the same issue, my PS4 is the fat one and is 6yo (bought in 2014), it was working fine when suddenly stopped reading any discs. I tried to clean the disc, put another one, cleaning next the disc drive area (without opening it), reinstall the system firmware, initialize PS4, recreate the database and nothing works, I tried to update and also didn't fixed my problem, so I'm trying to update again after initializing... I dont know if it's a 7.51 firmware problem, if my disc drive died or if the optical device is dirty or broken, If it's something I didn't tried, I'm kinda desperate :c

I had this exact problem. Sony's website said to re build the database in safe mode. I started watching this whilst it was re building. Was going to try this next but re building the database fixed it also. Guess it's just another way to fix some bad code somewhere.
I was having this exact issue just now with Kingdom Hearts III, did what was in the video and it worked. ✌️
This was a helpful video.. but however (I didnt hit thumbs down btw) it didn't work for me.. I've came to the source that whatever game you want to play.
1st. put the game in you want to play.
2nd power the console completely off.
3rd. Hold the power button five secs till safe mode appears.
4th. Hold the power button shut it back down.
5th.. touch the power button one time.. log in. the game is ready for play..

@@charlotteflair1383 I'm sorry to hear it didn't work you.. but only suggestions I have is buy an actual ps4 cleaning CD.. running that a few times an try your game.. if that doesn't work you will need to replace your blu ray drive.. they sell them on Amazon for 32 dollars.. its 3 different drives depends on what console you have so make sure you read the one your getting..
i had the same problem .. i watched a video when someone turned the console upside down , i tried it and a credit card came out of the cd reader cuz my brother was trying to bye V bucks , my point is that you should check if there is something stuck inside .

Followed this video, then did another (standard) reboot. Discs now being read again.
I would suggest not always leaving your PS4 in standby mode. Try giving it a break every now and then.

Same problem, at some disc it recognize rarely not, at some disc it recognize it rarely and some not at all. No matter if a PS4 game or a BluRay. But it always helps when I know at the right time after inserting the disc on top of the PS4 over the drive. And it is only recognizing the disc, after it the disc plays complete fine without any issue.
So it did the same as in the video, didn't helped, als rebuilding the database (what Sony tells) didn't help. The only thing I could do is making a factory reset, but I fear I will not lose my data on my PS4 but it also will not help at all.

My PS4 just started doing this with r6. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t and it only happens with that game. Super strange.

@@S1S0.11 tapping directly over the disc drive while the game is trying to be read is the only solution I've found. It's annoying and takes a few tries sometimes but works.

I tried this and it worked first time then I saw another video where the dude cleaned the back with napkin or q tip and then stood the PS4 instead of laying down. Did this and my PS4 pro been working since then.

Similar issue here with the original ps4 and Resident Evil. It has been randomly ejecting and making harsh whirring noises.

Insert the disc in and then tap it for 20-30 seconds and it should read, trust me I have done it on mine and it did work and it should work on yours as well.

My PS4 makes a really loud buzzing noise and it’s not the fan because the fan has been cleaned before. Basically whenever I boot up a disc in the console or turn on the console with a disc inside it makes an EXTREMELY loud noise that is literally deafening. For some reason the disc drive works perfectly and can download/read discs but it takes like 5 tries and you can clearly hear the disc drive failing a few times over. Not sure what to do here

Worked! Thanks so much! My brand new modern warfare stopped reading after a few weeks of playing. Did exactly what he did and it worked. I’m also hearing people say using it in vertical mode helps fix the issue but I didn’t try that. Hope it helps any one else having issues.

I had this issue for the first time with death stranding.
Did everything even took the DD apart to inspect clean and lubricate, Still didnt work.
Finally I turned off the console with the disk out. Back on, back off with disk in, back on, then into rest mode, and just let her sit a few minutes and it worked for weeks.
The issue just happened again not 10 mins ago and the same thing worked for me.
The equipment is cheap and because of that ive replaced many internal components in my console so trust Me you just have to finesse your console and thats pretty much all you can do other than buy a new console or a 90$ replacement disk drive.
This is like a software update to my car is going to fix a flat tire.

Tap the disc area (poke it) it worked first time. Cleaning console and discs didn't work, but tapping it did. Guessing some dust got loosend after tapping

For anyone else trying this, the trick would appear to be don't have a disc in the drive when you do the update. I did the first time and it didn't work, so I tried removing the disc and updating again - success this time!

This method is only a temporary fix. In a couple of days it'll stop reading certain discs again. My PS4 pro does the same thing and it's less than a year old. Sadly, I bought it off eBay so I have no where to take it back to
