A look at how we harvest our troughs in the Hydroponic House and it's time to leave any questions about Hydroponics that you may have, for my next video.
Snap Fresh Farm Hi Todd, I just watched your video and you have an amazing thing going on there! Thank you so much for the kind words and shout out! Everyone definitely needs to learn what you are doing with your small indoor scale system, and I will spread the word. But just so you know, this is how we started lol... it's like an itch you have to scratch.... I will catch up on your other videos tomorrow .. have a great night my friend. Patti
We have a small greenhouse attached to our house, it's heated but no lights. We mostly grow lettuce Wayne's suggestion Muir is not ready yet. Also have a couple of tomatoes in dutch buckets about 4". Only started with hydroponics a month ago. Most web sites are in the mid to southern states so I wasn't sure if it would work up here and then I found you guys.
That's great! Lights really do help though, especially in the winter months. Where abouts are you located? I'm happy you are able to get some useful information from our channel.
located in Clearview, southern Georgian Bay. I'm sure lights would help but it's hard to warrant the expense on such a small scale. I know my times are pretty close to double yours across the board from sprouting to harvesting.
Thank you for your informative video. I have grown lettuces for my own use in hydroponic systems in my greenhouse. They are a super way to grow these crops. Tammy
Awesome as always Patti... You folks sure nuff have it going on over there! Love watching how you get grow and sell your veggies! Keep up the good work and please do not send that snow down here! Hope you have a wonderful weekend. :-)
Your videos are very helpful and your production looks amazing. I have interest in growing basil and arugula in NFT, I was wondering what are exploitation times for basil and arugula and how much time passes between harvests? Also for basil do you have only one plant/seed per one hole or more? Thank you, wish you all the best!
+PAPA Texas Thanks for watching! Yes we love the farmers market. And yes, arugula is definitely an easy harvest. Spring can't come quick enough, time to play in the dirt! ☺
Wonderful videos! It's fantastic to see such enthusiasm and passion for what you're all doing! Question: Are you using an uv clarifier in your hydroponic system to manage Pythium or are you finding that the liberal use of Cease and periodic dumping of your sump tank negates the need? Love to hear your experiences!
Great video! Looks like Hydroponics doesn't need to be washed? That's a big time saver! How much volume do you typically sell in a day at farmers Market? Anyone else selling products? Wishing g you a little warmth from Florida!
+Tim McWilliams Hi Tim, no we don't wash hydroponic greens as it shortens the shelf life, and the customers know that they should rinse before consuming. The beauty of hydroponic growing is that you don't have the soil to deal with! Patti
Hi! I'm writing from Italy! I've bought the IKEA hydroponics system and I wanted to know if the harvesting is the same as you did, I mean, we may cut the top of the lettuce and leave the other part of the plants there in order to grow again...? Thank you!
hello how much the angle the pipes I want to make same system like your green house I want to make 105 cm 102 cm 99 cm about 5° angle this is okey or need more or need less angle ?
So this might be a dumb question but I have an order for 30 lb of lettuce per week and was wondering how many trays it would take to grow that much. I know it's going to depend on what variety and such but if you could give an average that would help me a lot thank you
Hi, Not a dumb question at all. You can harvest anywhere from 3-8lbs per trough ( depending on variety) tropicana is the best for weight for the winter season and muir for the summer. It all depends on your growing conditions, and weight increases through the summer months. Where are you located?
Thanks so much for answering me, we are in central Utah. Just trying to get going on hydroponics, to go along with our tomatoes....also would a floating foam work or would trays be better?
Do you use a geothermal system to heat your greenhouses in the winter? You can also use solar panel(s) to run the heat pump(s) for the greenhouses & your home. Enjoy watching & learning, Teresa & Mike Collins
I thought your plants roots were submerged in water, but it runs through, and down to the ground in the end? Or is it a closed system? Impressed anyhow :)
Hey! Really enjoy your content! Can you please tell me how long your troughs are? Is 3 lb per trough your average weight per? Thank you for your videos!
According to a more recent video, their troughs are 11 feet. They do a great explanation of the process up to harvesting. ruclips.net/video/-2cvabaiDvs/видео.html
How is the temperature in your tanks? Does it affect growth? Do you just heat the greenhouse or do you heat the tank as well? What is the ideal temp for optimum growth?
Have you checked into small devises that seal your bags in less that a second. They are cheap and would save you a lot of time. Curtis Stone always uses them.
As the weather warms and the sun moves up in the sky your production must double or triple, does your customer base consume it all? Do you advertise locally?
+Bernard Christensen Hi Bernard, yes, once the nicer weather arrives our production does multiply. We are able to sell everything with Farmers Markets, Restaurants, CSA and here at the farm without a problem. Thank you for watching!
+casey wilson Hi Casey, we harvest and bag cilantro with the oasis block and roots attached. We just trim the roots neatly and rinse them. The pac choy , we do the same. Patti
I use a sponge but a specific kind, not the ones used for cleaning. You can order these on Ebay, AliBaba. They are called _grow sponge_ , made usually from an in inert food grade foam or melamine, and they are 100x cheaper when bought in bulk than most grow cubes (i.e. rockwool, rapid rooter, jiffy cubes, etc). I received some 400 cubes last time for $5.
Hey, like always, thank you for your videos. My question to you is how easy or how hard was it to order your troughs or channels being that they are so long (delivery wise) . And as a side question on this, I am building a make shift, small hydroponics setup for a teacher at school (for her cooking class) and I was wondering, do you have one channel to spare because I would buy it from you and drive by to pick it up? Thanks.
+Dominique Echeverri Hi Dominique, we actually lucked out and purchased a bunch of our troughs from the Guelph area. Because the troughs come from the states, shipping is crazy. Yes we have a spare trough, but aren't you in the Ottawa area?
Spring Hill Farms Yes, I am, but I really care about this hydroponics project I'm working on for my high school kids and their teacher. So for me, asking you this is a long shot and a drive down by your neck of the woods would be no big deal for me. So if you could let me know, you guys are great. Thanks.
+Pink Stem Farm We started our farm as a hobby, and it snowballed into a business. Everything is expensive but if you search for good deals you can of course minimize the expense to a certain degree. It all depends on how badly you want to expand! ☺
@@carmenarroyo4060 It depends on what type of lettuce you are selling. Heads of lettuce we sell for $3.50 ea. And 1/2 pound lettuce mix, we sell for $4.50 per bag.
Patti, you guys have taken NFT to a new level! Your video presentation and content is great. All the best and sending heat waves your way.

Thank you for watching Tammy, I'm happy to hear the video was informative. Yes, it's a wonderful system.
Have a great day!

How long does the arugula last in the bags (in the fridge for customers) after harvesting? Thank you so much for sharing. Inspiring!!
Awesome as always Patti... You folks sure nuff have it going on over there! Love watching how you get grow and sell your veggies! Keep up the good work and please do not send that snow down here! Hope you have a wonderful weekend. :-)

i am having the same doubts
I grow basil. One seed per hole. Putting two will cause one to die or both to grow slowly.
I love going to the farmers market! Nice and easy! Awesome! You got a lot there! $48.00 Nice! 👍
+PAPA Texas
Thanks for watching! Yes we love the farmers market. And yes, arugula is definitely an easy harvest. Spring can't come quick enough, time to play in the dirt! ☺
hello... very neat and nice green house you have... how long the arugula could stay fresh and sellable after packaged?
After putting them on. The finishing channels how much time to harvest and how oftenly do You harvest and how Many times ...?
Wonderful videos! It's fantastic to see such enthusiasm and passion for what you're all doing!
Question: Are you using an uv clarifier in your hydroponic system to manage Pythium or are you finding that the liberal use of Cease and periodic dumping of your sump tank negates the need? Love to hear your experiences!

Good morning Sean, we haven't had any pythium issues at all, but we also shade our tank and also have extremely good water which also helps.

hello how much the angle the pipes I want to make same system like your green house I want to make 105 cm 102 cm 99 cm about 5° angle this is okey or need more or need less angle ?
Can you explain how we use and which brands and how much amounts fertilizer your using for hydrophonic system...
Nice. Thanks for the video. Wondering if you thought about using a knife instead of scissors for cutting?
Hi Wayne, Thanks! I have tried a knife but I find I have more control with the scissors. I guess it's just preference. Have a great weekend!
does the water not leak out the other side of the trough? How do you ensure all plants are getting water?
what is the size of the green house in terms of square feet.
The greenhouse is 120' x 30 ' so 36,000 Sq feet.

Our tank is kept at room temperature. We shade it in the summer and lift the shade in the winter months. Hope this helps!
Does romaine lettuce get harvested more then once once its ready? If so how do you harvest it?
Thank you
+charlie Cameron
Thanks for watching!
Are you using a large (~6") pipe with holes the profile of your channels to catch the return nutrient solution?
With respect to my question, at 10:53 of the video, is what I'm seeing/questioning.
Have you checked into small devises that seal your bags in less that a second. They are cheap and would save you a lot of time. Curtis Stone always uses them.
+Muscadines And More
Yes, we have but a lot of our customers like the twist tie to reseal their bags. It really doesn't take long once you get going.
Could you do a video on like how you price your produce? Would be super interesting :)
+GrowingGreen
Yes, we have had other requests for a video on that. We will be doing one very soon! ☺
oh awesome! Great thanks so much :)

cilantro- do you harvest for bagged? also pac choi harvest the whole plant? thanks
+casey wilson
Hi Casey, we harvest and bag cilantro with the oasis block and roots attached. We just trim the roots neatly and rinse them. The pac choy , we do the same.
Patti
Where u buy ur seeds from
How many seeds do you drop per oasis cube?
You have a nice NFT Green HOUSE HIS ONE For THE Lady 😉
Hello, how long for arugula from seed to harvest?
Approximately 4 - 5 weeks
Weather is crazy eh.? Is your greenhouse polycarbonate? Or 6mill poli.?
+lkhanaajav batbaatar
Yes, the weather is extremely crazy this year. The greenhouse is 6 mill double poli.
Patti if I can't get the cubes could i use a sponge for my seed germination just wondering
I don't think a sponge would work..lol
You could always use jiffy pucks or rockwool

Do you put multiple seeds in your blocks?
We only plant multiple seeds in cubes of basil, cilantro, arugula, parsley and basil.
Oh, and beet tops!
i want to start hydroponics technique farming, please give me your better idea....

How many arugula plants are in each hole in the trough?
+hurdman
There are between 6 - 8 plants per hole.
very helpful, thanks! I've done 2 but never tried pushing up to 6 or 8.
You ask question to them and they dont even get back all they want is subscribers and likes
I'm sorry you feel that way. Actually we read every comment and answer as we have time. It's been very hectic here, so please have patience.
