    The explanation for drawing the figure 8 for a turned leaf or petal was very helpful, as well as drawing through a petal for something behind it.

    Thank you, thank you. Two tips are most helpful to me. Draw the flower shape and locate the center, foreshortening made easy! Also, draw some, paint some....not having to draw the whole of the picture before beginning to add some paint. I'm going to give this several tries today and I'm optimistic that it create an improvement in my work.

    I paint loosely and what meant most to me was your statement to "honour the shape and characteristic of the flower'. I will use this as a motto when I do my underdrawing for anything so that the viewer is able to decipher and imagine what I am portraying.

    All of your tips will be a great help for me. As a lover of flowers for more than 70 years, I have noticed that even artist who do tutorials often get the petals, or number of petals, wrong. That really anoys me. Anyone who wants to draw or paint a specific flower should have a reference picture of that flower.
    I really appreciate your tips and demonstrations. Thank you.

  • @deen1927
    @deen1927 2 года назад +1

    This is exactly what I needed.
    I love the way you explain and demonstrate everything. It's hard to pick a favorite tip. Drawing the center line of the petal/leaf first, drawing the background item through the front items then erasing, finding the center point of the flower first to point it in the correct direction. These are all things I'm going to do from now on.
    Thank you!

    Hi Michelle, I have to tell you a cute story.
    The flower and vase example in this video is the same composition my son used in 3 rd grade art lesson for a colored pencil drawing- I believe the ACTUAL lesson was to teach the kids to achieve tectures by placing different tectured items under the paper and rubbing color pencil on top of paper - to create mutiple and different kinds of textures, with various items- GREAT LESSON FOR THAT AGE GROUP!
    I framed this drawing my son did (HERE IS THE CUTE PART OF THIS STORY) " My son made his vase too large and ran out of room at top of page for all his flowers- he realized this and made some flowers droop to resolve his composition issue- BRILLIANT!(for his age at the time.)
    That simple miscalculation he made and how he resolved it - makes this color pencil drawing just adorable to my viewers eye!! 😍 I framed this drawing and it is proudly displayed in my home, today and my son is in college now!
    I ABSOLUTELY ADORE CHILDRENS ART- IT'S DEFINITELY FRAMABLE ART OF THE PUREST KIND!!
    I ALSO APPRECIATE "OUTSIDER ART" FOR THE SAME REASON- IT'S SUCH PURE EXPRESSION- FROM INSIDE THE ARTIST MADE VISABLE- ZERO RULES INVOLVED! HA!

    Sometimes it’s better to make mistakes and have accidents because an exact copy is just like taking a photograph that can be done with a camera, with or without a filter applied, to look like a painting .. But when anything is added to the painting by choice or accident, it changes and is uniquely yours! No camera can duplicate that!! Nothing is wrong with realism, this is just a different way to view things when starting out.
