Totally agree that removing the number pad is unacceptable, since I use it a lot for both productivity and gaming. That's what I love about my 17 R3 (yes, it's old, but it still rocks).
Yep I love mine! I still use my m17 r3 with an i7 and 2070 super every day! It used to get pretty hot but after Dell replaced my fans it works just like new!
It would have been more interesting to test the “AMD Advantage” model, which is the one with AMD CPU and AMD GPU. You tested the version with AMD CPU and NVIDIA GPU. Hopefully there is a chance of you testing the Model with the Ryzen 9 6900HX + Radeon RX 6850M XT.
That's the one I just picked up (well, it's being shipped at least) - price point, and the unique memory and power features you get with AMD/AMD is why I went the AMD GPU route.

Bought mine opened box from best buy with the ryzen 9 6900hx/Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070ti 16gb ram and 1tb ssd storage for just over 1100 after taxes a couple days ago. While the battery life, low quality Webcam, and lack of side number pad, I can't really complain since I didn't buy it brand new for over 2300. At the price I bought it for, it's a steal. Can't say it's worth it brand new though. Still waiting to upgrade the ram and m.2 ssd but for the most part, I'm still happy with its factory specs for now
I have an X17 R2 and it's awesome, but I may return it. It runs so insanely hot. During gaming, you literally can't keep your finger on the top middle of the laptop for more than a second or two. You could cook an egg on it.
This laptop was a no brainer for me, since I was able to get it via their discounts for $3000 AUD, meanwhile the GE76 3080 ti model is $7300 AUD, more than double the price :/

Personally, I don't accept poor speakers in a gaming laptop. Sorry, I just don't. And I can't agree with you more on the webcam comment, also unacceptable. I can't imagine I'm alone in this, but I don't just game on my laptop. I use it for productivity as well. I appreciate reviewers like you Justin that give comprehensive and fair reviews. Big corporations don't listen to the consumers simply because their responsibility is to their shareholders. So indirectly we the consumer have some control. Like a 700 dollar laptop I just saw a review on had both a waaayyy better webcam and speakers. I guess I'm just tired of big corporations taking advantage of gamers. So yeah, I really appreciate your reviews and get excited to see some light sabers lol. Keep it up!
Glad you're getting a lot out of them Adrian! Yeah hopefully they get the picture with lower sales this year. Disappointed in all the Alienware updates this year. Removing features is such a stupid move that is definitely going to bite them in the butt soon
I'm not a fan of Dell/Alienware Desktops, but I love the design of their laptops. I wish they could have done better on the performance side with this model.
Just picked one of these up with the max spec AMD CPU and RX 6850M XT GPU for $1750 after coupon codes. Can't find anything near these specs (with a 4k 120hz display). 32GB of RAM and 1TB storage was the icing on the top. I'll be using this for coding, photo and video editing, and of course gaming and streaming.
Very Nice review. @13:47 you mentioned AMD advantage but the config you are using is with 3080Ti instead of AMD's 6850m xt, hence its affecting the battery performance.
Awesome review, although I felt so disappointed for Alienware for their new M17 R5, despite their awesome thermal, and affordable AMD CPU price. Although, I prefer more performance from the laptop, and I think the guys at Alienware might need to improve on that one... Overall thanks for helping me working through my decision on a laptop, since it's quite hard for me to use an old boi for flight simulations.
I ended up doing the 6900HX with a 3070 ti and the 240hz monitor and I seem to score a lil higher on some games. I wonder if it was your machine? Either way I picked it mostly for thermals and power use. I tried the intel one first and the cpu was a power hog. Fast but too hungry.

Great honest review. Really I've been pretty underwhelmed by Dell products a long time now and the Alienware acquisition was a definite downgrade for that product line. I always thought they were pretty overpriced for what you got but at least when they were a standalone company, you were actually paying for optimal stuff. Dell did their typical thing when they absorbed them, which is to pretty much downgrade the quality in every aspect imaginable while still maintaining the premium pricing. You still might get high end core components, like the GPU or the CPU because Dell know that the typical power gaming will actually pay attention to those specs, even if they are not technically proficient but everything else is distinctly mid to low range tier, so they can claw back some of that profit margin. The end product with Dell always feels like you got a Ferrari, but with malformed wheels that are welded on and can't be replaced.

Yeah sorry I didn’t word that well. I realize what I had is only part of the equation but them labeling them together as the “fastest” it gave me the hopes the CPU would be faster than it was
It's not your battery it's the NVIDIA card. I have the Radeon with the APU/GPU setup, and doing work at full brightness I get 7-8 hours of battery life.
JustIN - have you tested the Eluktronics Mech-17 GP/G2? I purchased this Ryzen 9 M17 R2 and I'm unimpressed... I am looking to return it and purchase the Mech-17 GP and head back to Intel. The LLP unit it comes with is interesting, and I suppose I will use it when I'm setup at a desk playing AAA games. Eluktronics sells refurbished models for -$600 bringing it down to the $2k zone for i9 12900H (unfortunately not HX) with 32GB Samsung DDR5 4800Mhz RAM binned low latency , 1 TB Samsung 980 Pro SSD, 17.0" 16:10 Narrow Bezel WQXGA IPS-Type 240Hz display with G-sync and Advanced Optimus, a 1080p web cam, Cherry MX keyboard WITH number pad, Wifi6 and bluetooth 5.2, and a GLASS touchpad. I CAPS some of the specs as you expressed disappointment with the Alienware not having some that are represented in the Mech-16 GP. I am a little concerned with Eluktronics being a newer company, but it's offering A LOT more for the same price (and better price with the refurbished models, which I am also a little hesitant about - but from my experience working in the tech industry... the refurbished machines have undergone more QC as they've had to come back to get tested, fixed, and tested again). Curious if you have tested the Mech-17 GP (or G2). I've looked everywhere for a side-by-side comparison of the Alienware and Eluktronics and cant find anything... would be AWESOME to see your thoughts!

I imagine pretty much the same as a 390hz laptop would look. Computers of all kinds function with the basic principle of 'the weakest link in the chain', which is to say a chain is only as strong as what the weakest link in it's sequence can hold. That's it's failure point. A data steam of any kind sequenced through at laptop always travels at the threshold limit of the slowest component in the sequence. This is why you can't build a cheap super gaming computer by just putting the chunkiest GPU into it and going cheap on the CPU or ram. All of those things work in coordination with each other and the slowest one of them, will choke down the data speed for the others. Think of it this way, if you have a computer setup that can only output at 60hz, attaching the same 390hz monitor to it won't magically make the computer be able to output more. The data stream is limited by the computer's maximum output. So the same is true in reverse as well. A 480hz output on the computer can't magically make the monitor work faster, therefore that extra bandwidth on the computer side is wasted.
PS5 can run Warzone @ 4k 120FPS...... If this machine can run Warzone @ 4K 66FPS Its a complete waste of money..... I could get a cheap laptop to surf the web with, a 50inch OLED, and a PS5 all for the price of this machine on its end of cycle discount price??? someone PLZ help me understand.... I need a new laptop, but I don't wanna get my pants pulled down.
Sorry no number pad kills 17 in laptops from alienware for me. It is absolutely ridiculous to have a 17in screen and not display a full keyboard. It makes the space useless and look tacky. The best 17in is the Msi Raider GE76 but it costs 4200$ which is absurd. So buying second hand alienware is the groove. That's why my m17 R4 will be sticking around. It only cost me 1400$ refurbished and is only 12 points less in the nano laptop reviews website compared to a 3080ti i9-12 MSI. 3000$ is not worth a 12 point increase
Yeah I agree Xavier, such a weird move by Alienware. Their obsession with thinness is probably why they keep removing things. I predict sales to be very underwhelming this year
@@JustinTechTips for sure bro. I hope they read and watch reviews like you man. Always straight up and straightforward. Absolutely appreciate that about you and your channel no sugarcoating nothing.
Fam I need your Genious Brain's🧠 Power help. I purchased the Legion Tower 7i Gen 7 ( Latest Gen ) CPU Intel i9 12900K, GPU RTX 3080, & 32GB DDR5 4800Mhz RAM. Will this specs be able to handle playing Warzone while I'm streaming on Twitch?
You've purchased it already? Why not just try it? You'd get the most precise information about what it can do, just by testing it. Far better than someone just looking at numbers on a page and guesstimating for you. Having said that, Legion systems are well respected as good hardware and the specs you've given are right up at the top, if you don't install a million wonky apps to run in the background, I can't imagine how that system could do what you want any less well than any other top shelf computer.
@@cameronb851 So I bought it already, I have played Red Dead Redemption 2, GT5 RP , Apex Legends, & Vampires BloodHunt & Forza 5 while streaming on Twitch, all of them run super super smooth no issues. CPU stays at around 55% with around 55-60 C° And GPU around 55-70% and Temp of 70 C° Warzone is the only one giving me issues, even without streaming its spiking my GPU to 100% when it shouldn't. I am running Windows 11 if that makes any difference...
@@unpredictablelegacy3193 - Yes, the hardware setup you described should easily be solid for anything current you throw at it. If Warzone is bucking I would say it's an issue with Warzone and/or a driver issue, not with the hardware. I am not personally familiar with Warzone, but I can say that RD2 is easily a more hardware intensive game, so If your rig is doing that at full settings without an issue it should easily be able to handle Warzone too. From memory of what I have heard and read, Warzone is still lacking some serious refined polish and optimization and it's possible that it's simply not utilizing your hardware very well, leading to the issues you are experiencing. It is also possible that given how underperforming Warzone is in terms of the money that was made from it and is still being made from it, that it may never be given the attention and resources to resolve issues. A lot of those multiplayer intensive games get dropped to skeleton support crews if they don't come out of the gates raking in consistent cash for the developers, publishers and investors. It's an unfortunate state of the gaming industry that many companies are desperate to make the next 'World of Warcraft' that they can bleed for a constant cash flow for decades, but they seem to misunderstand that WoW gained it's enviable status through a dedicated and diligent ongoing effort on the part of Blizzard to keep refining and building and growing their user base over a prolonged period of time. Now everyone just seems to release minimal viable/beta products and wait to see if enough of a crowd forms in the first month to make it worth while to keep developing the game. Of course that doesn't happen because what's initially released isn't interesting enough to hold gamers to wait for a year or more for new things to get added. Or worse, wait a year for serious core gameplay issues to be fixed before there's even talk of new things upcoming. Anthem and Cyberpunk are very good examples of this flawed mentality. Anyway, your rig should be a rocket for gaming and streaming for a year or two at least, I would think. I don't think there's much you can do about your Warzone issues other than pick another game of the same type to replace it for your stream viewership.
@@cameronb851 Appreciate the feedback, and yes by looking on RUclips, web, etc many people seem to have issues with the game. I mean even the sound coming out it completely distorted and low quality. So there something clearly wrong with the download of it. So I'll just scratch it off my list of games I play, and just focus on Bloodhunt, that game is fairly new since Dec 2021, and tbh I love it, it's very well developed game and zero issues thus far, I also love Red Dead Redemption 2. The Vibes are different and trully make you feel as if in a western atmosphere.

Are Msi the best laptop company for the price in your opinion?

but your unit is not an AMD Advantage model. AMD Advantage laptops have AMD CPU and GPU, yours has Nvidia GPU.
Yeah sorry I didn’t word that well. I realize what I had is only part of the equation but them labeling them together as the “fastest” it gave me the hopes the CPU would be faster than it was
Will we be getting the 15 inch all AMD laptop? I will watch this review in the evening.
ur video was so interesting and captivating i definitely thought u had over 2 mil subs but sadly that wasnt the case. enjoyed the video tho.
It is expensive but not that expensive considering the specs.
I was able to get the same PC he had new for $1400.
When you are testing aliewnare machines Like X17 or m17 do you play on high perofrmance mode (fn+f1) mode?
Do Alienware have any coupons/sale?
hey man i just wanted to ask what the best gaming desktop/pc u would prefer as I'm looking to get one
btw my max is 5.7k aud :)
oh my god! Your Review is just Amazing! Thank You! In Japan, its about $1700 now, I Bought!
It might be a bios issue that's holding back the cpu power in some games. Maybe Dell will fix it later in an update.
Is this a metal or plastic chassis?
It's not your battery it's the NVIDIA card. I have the Radeon with the APU/GPU setup, and doing work at full brightness I get 7-8 hours of battery life.
Would a 3070 ti use less power than his 3080 ti? Thinking of getting that one.
@@firefly9838 doubt it
JustIN - have you tested the Eluktronics Mech-17 GP/G2?

Too many deal breakers, thanks for the review...
there has to be something wrong with your cpu or drivers/bios, i had a legion 5 pro with 6800h and multicore was like 14,000 pts.
oh my god why do they keep removing the secondary keys D:

Good review channel
Great vid!
You should review the Big O v3 the ultimate gaming machine
Man I wish! That was unfortunately just for Unboxing Therapy. I'm not as cool as he is yet
Now my real question is how would a 480hz laptop will look in a 390hz monitor
A 480hz output on the computer can't magically make the monitor work faster, therefore that extra bandwidth on the computer side is wasted.
awesome laptop, great video!💜💜
whats with alienware being allergic to QHD display ..... we shall never know...
My Asus G15 would also drop to 10W in some games. I think its an AMD issue.
I want to get a one-of-a-kind ergonomic gaming laptop from Ergotauri. I think they will be way better.
@UCTaEGox5WJ5neT9twkPjZcw I don’t have telegram.

Fam I need your Genious Brain's🧠 Power help.
I purchased the Legion Tower 7i Gen 7 ( Latest Gen )
CPU Intel i9 12900K, GPU RTX 3080, & 32GB DDR5 4800Mhz RAM.
Will this specs be able to handle playing Warzone while I'm streaming on Twitch?
If yes, I'll have another question, hope I don't annoy you fam 🙏🏼🦁
CPU stays at around 55% with around 55-60 C°
And GPU around 55-70% and Temp of 70 C°
Warzone is the only one giving me issues, even without streaming its spiking my GPU to 100% when it shouldn't.
I just bought it for $1800
