I have had mine a year and a half with the rtx 3080 specs runs fine no problems am anxious to see how these 4090/4080 gpus act though not buying into all the hype until we see some real all around tests
Their quality control has always been absolutely terrible for as long as I remember. I don’t get it this isn’t rocket science to figure out what goes wrong after all these years and make the parts last longer.
Regarding USB-C Port in all Dell G and Aleinware Laptops based on Ryzen 6000H series, Dell has released BIOS update couple of months back, enabling full USB4 functionalities and after that, it is fully compatible with most Thunderbolt 3 and 4 accessories, which are relatively newer. I've tried the G15 with 6900HX and RTX 3070 Ti and the Type-C port works with all my TB3 docks and external GPU dock without any issue. So, switching to Intel just because for TB3/TB4 port is not really necessary.
lets gooooo! i've been waiting for lisa to review this model. the 2020 razer blade video helped me pick my first laptop n i've been wanting to upgrade recently. edit: i bought the 6900hx 3070 ti model and i am extremely happy with my upgrade. :) thanks for helping make my purchase decision yet again
I got a rocking deal last week on an M17 R4. I am confused as to why they got rid of the full size Keyboard for the R5 considering they have at least 2 other laptops in the 17 inch category with this precise layout.
don't worry I have M17 R4 for 2 years now, full-size keyboard will die the same way as the reduced variant. Sorry but I needed to share my bad experience xD
I might be wrong, but I think the Intel HX cpus are replacements for laptop Xeons. That said, I'm not sure if any of the Alienware laptops have those in them.
@@cameronbosch1213 Ah, good point. I wonder what Intel's plan is then, because I do recall seeing a video where an Intel rep suggested HX was a replacement for mobile Xeons. And they're clearly not just going to abandon customers who need ECC. Maybe he was just a sales/marketing guy who hyping up HX processers as a stop-gap until the next Xeons arrived. 🤷♂
@Raz Carsey If you get the P series of Lenovo ThinkPads or the higher end Dell Precision laptops, I think Xeon will still be a thing. ECC memory won't be going anywhere for specific tasks. You're right, this is weird.
I got an Alienware 15 several years ago. It had QC issues and I wish I had sent it back. I really would try to get a different device if at all possible.
I really love the x series they do now. What they have done with the M series though is sad. They where fully loaded and did not feel like you where missing much. This new build makes sure it doesn't look or have the best. 2 year old computers in the m series came withe better options and had nicer chassis for like 4 years.
Don't Game but use a Labtec wireless keyboard ad Mouse in my lap while lounging in my Recliner with a 15' HDMI cable across the Living room floor to the 55" UHD TV. Laptop is on a home built swivel stand
the only plastic on this is the deck, the bottom, frame and lid are metal. the frame is made of Magnesium, something only found in Alienware for the most part.
My experience with Alienware has sucked; poor QC, and I have avoided them for the last 2-3 years as I hate my laptops breaking down on me. Hopefully, others had better luck than me (three went bad).
I've been fine with Alienware (apart from the P.O.S. that is Alienware Command Center); it's the XPS where I've seen so much poor QC. I had a 9575 (2 in 1) that was having electrical issues. After over a year of troubleshooting, they eventually gave me a 7590 (a clamshell), and that laptop had issues with Dell's color software PremierColor, to the point it was unusable for color accurate work (I mean, the 4K IPS that was on my replacement had near 100% Adobe RGB and touch screen support) and of course Dell wouldn't fix it. Never buying or recommending Dell XPS again, and Alienware for the most part is similar.
@@cameronbosch1213 yes, Dell have had issues, and I have had at least two blue screen of deaths. I don't buy them either, as I have found more reliable Windows laptops. Samsung and the Surface line are the most reliable for me.
@andyH_England Not to mention the 2020 & 2021 models of the XPS 15 & 17 had loose touchpads, which for their high price, should NOT be a major issue. I mean, on a budget to midrange gaming laptop, you're probably going to be using a mouse for games, but on an ultrabook / creator's laptop of those prices? Nobody should reward Dell for that.
IDK about the number pad, but the IO is great on Legion laptops (except for maybe the Legion Slim laptop), I mean, the Legion 7 I own has 6 USB ports (2 USB A and 4 USB-C, three of which support DisplayOut, one of which supports charging, and one of which is USB4), HDMI 2.1, 2.5 GB ethernet, and a headphone jack along with a camera kill switch at the hardware level. I mean, the only thing missing is an SD card slot, and many gaming laptops don't seem to have them anymore, but it's nothing a dongle can't fix, considering everything else is there. The Alienware x series is actually worse than the M series in ports regards.
@@cameronbosch1213 OH POOP, that is actuall nice. Good for...HP? LENOVO? I wan to say Lenovo. THAT'S HOW YOU DO IT. You have all of those lanes available to you, that you're not using and hurting the end user with, while also asking a high price. Slim lines I get, though I think 2 USB A 10Gbs and 2 C USB 40Gbs should be minimum requirement even if one C is power in. For gaming laptops that is. I think 2 USB C should be minimum on ALL Laptops, Thunderbolt or 4.
@@tdata545 It has 4 USB-C, one of which is USB4 on the AMD model (because Thunderbolt is proprietary to Intel & Apple), while the Intel model has two Thunderbolt 4 ports and two USB-C. I agree, Lenovo are making some of the best gaming laptops right now.
@lisa, have you run into an issue on dell/alienware gaming machines where the keyboard and backlight software takes really long to come on and as a result, the backlight doesn't come on well after the machine has been turned on?
I have been wanting to get a gaming laptop for a long time. What brands do you recommend, I have been looking around? Which is better for gaming performance, graphics etc.? I am looking for that balance between using it as a regular laptop/gaming.
@@23majesticblue if you are gaming, then amd. You get more performance per $. I don’t know where you live but in America there’s a lot of deals on laptops. Also depends how much you wanna spend. The best is the Legion 7 with 6850m and 6800/6900h (all amd). It costs like 2000. Legion 5 from last year with 6600m costs only 1000$ and it’s pretty good. But that has a 1080p screen. It just depends what you want. You have to know what your budget is and what kinda screen you want, which laptop design you like the most, Amd is cheaper and gives better battery life, intel is a few % faster but is more expensive and your battery life will be much worse. Nvidia vs amd for gpu is like this. Amd is better for gaming and cheaper (if you don’t care about ray tracing). But there are not many laptops with amd Gpus. Only this years Legion 7, the laptop in this video (which I wouldn’t get bc it’s Alienware), last years asus g15 advantage (which is great and is on sale many times, but it looks very gamery), last years Legion 5, some hp laptops, and some msi laptops (which I think both are from last years and they don’t have a very high power limit ). If you have more questions let me know.
i have the exact model amd advantage ryzen 9, 6850xt and 32 gb ram but it doesn't have an overclocking option in alienware command center. why ? alienware support has no clue.
