- Join us as we visit Happy Valley Shanghai for the first ever time as part of our trip to Asia in June 2017. The park opened back in 2009 and features a wide variety of rides for both thrill seekers and families. Join us as spend a very interesting day at Happy Valley in one of the most amusing Theme Park Worldwide vlogs to date! Unfortunately our day was filled with numerous closed rides making our visit to the park not as successful as originally hoped. We share our full review of both the park and the rides we actually get to experience in one of the most unusual vlogs on the channel!

I know this park was a bit of a let down, but this is honestly one of my favourite vlogs! I always watch it if I'm having a bad day- you both pratting about and making the best of a bad situation just brings me so much joy every time!
I lived in Shanghai for 3 years, so visited this park many a time, except the dive coaster and mega lite were closed every time!!!
Why does that not surprise me!

Thank you for posting this video and all of the videos from your recent China and Japan trip. I'm having a blast watching them all!
When I went to Happy Valley Shanghai in 2016 I was *VERY* upset at the coaster operating procedures throughout the park. All of the coasters had packed-full queues throughout my visit but they only had one train operating on each one and the staff were dispatching trains slower than a sleepy snail. It was driving me completely insane since I'm used to Cedar Point kind of coaster throughput. The locals at the park waiting near me seemed to not be bothered by the insanity at all though and they were extremely patient. They have a much higher pain tolerance than I do.
But after watching your video, now I'm very thankful that at least all of the coasters were actually open and operating when I was there. I never thought that I'd say this but lethargic single train operating procedures are *WAY* better than no operation at all. In hindsight I'm thankful that I was able to at least ride every coaster at least once. Like you guys, I have no desire to return to this park because of their operating procedures and that's a shame because Fireball is a VERY good wood coaster. (I rode it twice in the back seat.)
I should also add that the footage that you showed of partially dismantled coaster trains just sitting there with nobody working on them doesn't spell success for Happy Valley. I wonder if that is a sign that the park cannot keep up with their new competition, Shanghai Disneyland. Maybe Happy Valley is cutting operational costs by closing so many coasters. Like I said in my post above, that was not the case in 2016 when I went there before Shanghai Disneyland opened.
Happy Valley Shanghai better shape up otherwise they'll close up soon. Now that I think about it, that may take a while though because if you look at Japan, Nara Dreamland lasted quite a while after Tokyo Disneyland opened. Happy Valley Shanghai also has the other Happy Valley parks to make up for the potential financial loses of one park in the chain.
And yes, the pre-boarding stretching exercises are weird and I've never experienced that before at any other park that I've been to. What's even weirder is that only the foreigner when I was waiting to ride (me) found the procedure odd. The local Chinese guests didn't think that it was funny or strange at all, which made it both funnier and stranger to me!
I forgot to mention that Happy Valley Shanghai's pathetic coaster operating procedures and low throughput earned it the well deserved nickname "Six Flags Shanghai" about halfway through my day there.
For those of you that have not been to many Six Flags parks in the US, that is not a nickname that you want slapped on your park if you're in the amusement industry at all.

When my family lived in Shanghai for 3 years, we went here twice.! It was so fun.! I rode the mine ride, and the wooden coaster. I didn't get to ride the dive coaster or the mega-lite because they were closed both times!.!.

I don’t know whether you guys are reading this now, but the happy valley was completed over a decade ago, so most of the facilities are quite old. And with a couple of facilities accident happening before they are pretty cautious. Believe me, I’m from Shanghai.
Btw they are still expanding this park and I guess new areas will be opened in 2018 so I’m looking forward to your guys coming back. Love your videos.

loved this! even though you weren't massive fans of the park you still made it entertaining ~ this is the problem with theme parks in Asia (we have been to a couple in Korea) the theming and the rides just aren't up to it usually. basically it's not going to be a smooth day out like going to a Disney or universal park! it's nice to see the different parks though! looking forward to your Japan disneyland vlog but... Marc OK, a tip for Shawn. If you're wanting to entertain an unsuspecting crowd like that, start small. Make a connection with just one likely looking person and see if they're up for playing along. Because your attention is specifically on them - and they won't know what you've got in mind - they're less likely to feel awkward about responding. Once you've got that first 'victim' on your side, gradually expand your attention outwards. Others nearby will then feel that it's OK to join in, as they won't be the first. Before you know it, you'll have the attention of the whole crowd, without the danger of another 'cringe' situation. As an entertainer myself, I must have done this a thousand times. It won't always work - people are 'complicated' - but frequently does.
We have always had a reputation for cringe! We just can't help it sometimes! ;)

I'm glad that you found ways to enjoy the park despite of it's problems.
Also that dance exercise thing in the station is because the locals basically go into ragdoll mode when on a ride. Their body slam from side to side and they have no control of the upper body. So the park does this to straighten their muscles out so that they can actually keep themselves in one piece throughout the ride. I'm serious just try and look at some footage of Chinese people on roller coasters they're hilarious! XD
also to be honest then you didn't really miss out on anything with the invert. It basically has the exact same layout as the Pterosaur at Paultons park.

Hey Shawn, I just discovered your vlogs and am really enjoying them. If you ever get the chance you should plan a trip to Pennsylvania, USA.They have lots of old, classic amusement parks, many of which are rated among the best in the country. Since you like heritage parks, it would be right up your alley. Kennywood, Knoebels, and Hersheypark are the most famous, but there is also Dorney Park, Waldameer, Idlewild, and Lakemont Park, which has the world's oldest operating coaster, plus a few other less historic but also worthwhile parks, all within just a few hours' drive of each other. You could stay at a central location and drive to each park as a day trip.
I would love to visit at some point!

Also The B&M family invert is an off the shelf product. The only reason why this is the only one is because of other parks just not being interested. I mean it has the exact same layout as Flight of the Pterosaur at Paultons Park and the Vekoma version of most likely a lot cheaper than B&Ms model.

Sad for you that the Dive coaster and Mine train coaster were closed on the day.. They were my favorite ones :)
On that christmas dark ride, willy was spelt 'willy' on the picture frame, then 'willie' at the end of the ride on the welcome home sign. Hilariously sums up the entire park.
