People have no idea how incredibly popular The Log Flume was. I worked there as a ride cashier and that thing had queues all day long, running from the ride, all the way past the Big Dipper, the Grand Prix and The Monorail station and down the slope to the lower level
I can believe it. The perfect ride for a hot summer day and one that all generations seemed to want to go on. I bet you have some great memories from working there.
If you’ve never been soaked through on the log flume, then shuffled, freezing cold around Blackpool seafront, before embarking on a 4 hour coach journey back home - I envy you. Ah, fun times ^^
Wasn't the best ride to go pre-season when it was cold and all rides were 50p. You would freeze and the green stinky water on your clothes would not dry hahaha
@@CoasterConnections fortunately, a similar coaster still remains at Luna Park, Sydney. I was fortunate to ride it when I went to Sydney 2 years ago. The layout is not as long as the BPB version but its still thrilling and the views of the harbour make up for the shorter ride. I think there is one more of these out in Vietnam.
Thank you for such a nostalgic video trip back to Blackpool. My parents used to take me there annually for a holiday at the end of the year to see the animated lit theme displays and illuminated trams. It was amazing and the fair at the time was an overwhelming pleasure. My late sister grew up to take her children there annually too but it’s changed considerably over time. I am in my 72nd year now but love the memories of those distant days.

I remember all of these lost rides and more. My favourites were the goldmine, the log flume and Noah’s ark. Classics and loads of fun. It was so sad to see them disappear one by one. As much as I love coasters, I feel the family fun element has diminished in favour of bigger faster rides.

Love this! Again, what a great video! How do you find such great historic footage? I was born in 1979, so I was too young to go on the Virginia Reel sadly. I remember the Ranger and Rainbow being it that spot though. I also remember spending a fun afternoon in the old fun house. I remember The Greatest Show on Earth being in the Casino building, although I don’t remember going on it? I did go on The Haunted Swing when it was a stand alone attraction, I remember being very nervous as I didn’t know what was going to happen, but it was fun. The Log Flume was great, I still have an on ride souvenir photo from the attraction. It’s such a shame Noah’s Ark is no longer an attraction, especially as there is only this one and the one in Kennywood left. I absolutely loved the Gold Mine as a child, the downward descent always felt much faster than the 11 miles an hour I believe it is? As an enthusiast, I can’t talk about the sad loss of the Wild Mouse 😢 what a great and out of control rollercoaster! So many great and nostalgic attractions, thanks for the memories 👍🏻

But I remember and went on a lot of the other lost attractions, including some not on this list. I feel the same about the Wild Mouse. As you can tell I have a passion for historical rides and Wild Mouse was a stand out example. The saddest part is that it was replaced with essentially nothing. 😢

Excellent video with some good historic footage. It highlights the issue the park has now as few rides have been replaced and the visitor experience is diminished. Indeed, there are other rides that have been removed and not mentioned. Cableway, Spin Doctor, Black Hole, Turtle Chase, Tom Sawyer ride, Vikingar, Tokaydo, The Whip, Dodgems and, unbelievably, this year, Ice Blast and Grand Prix.
From what i remember of Wild Mouse, that ride was painful haha throwing you around, good fun hahaha will be missed, a shame that my kids wont get to try that ride.
My Grandma had a cousin.who lived in Blackpool, and we spent EVERY dchool holiday there. The Pleasure Beach was our Friday last treat of the holiday visit and I remember FONDLY ALL the rides mentioned here. So sad to see my childhood favourites are no more, but I'll always have my memories Xxx
Oh my God!! I've been watching these utube videos about Blackpool Pleasure beach for years and not once has anyone ever mentioned the Rainbow ride!! Well done guys! It's was one of the most stunning rides that place has ever seen. It stood right at the entrance and the light show it gave off was incredible!! Where did you find that footage? ❤❤❤❤❤ Well done
Despite me not remembering most of these rides or being born after their removal, it’s awesome to hear about these rides knowing my family have photos somewhere of us on them and even family no longer around on the monorail, log flume and the gold mine. I remember we used to visit pleasure beach every year until 2014 and only went back in October of this year! Still mad I never got to go on wild mouse, great vid by the way.
I remember having a deep hatred for Noah’s ark and I have no idea why, my family still comment on it to this day. I reckon I just didn’t want to walk around 😂
There is another video on RUclips speculating as to why the Pleasure Beach is declining. This is a good pointer. The loss of Al the family friendly rides in favour of full on scare em rides is sad. As a youngster I loved all the side stalls, the monorail, railway etc. Sad😢 Oh and not being able to walk round anymore without paying entrance fee a bad move.
You are right, a park needs a mix of family and thrill attractions. A lot on this list could be enjoyed by all generations. While I see the benefits of not having open entry, the atmosphere that the park used to have was amazing.
I loved the wild mouse, I remember going on it with my uncle and having to be careful not to head butt him in the chin as we got whipped round the track, good times!
When a teenager, in a moment of madness I went on the wild mouse with a friend. I was terrified as it really felt like the mouse would come off the track. After that it always made me smile when I walked passed it thinking once but never again 😂 Happy days 😀
The log flume was one of the greatest rides and always a go to for us when we visited. Another fun ride not show here more for younger ones was the turtle ride a sort of tea cups ride but with turtles. And then the was the monster rider were the Ice Blast is now, that was an awesome ride. I remember going on the Noah Ark ride as a kid and jumping the barriers and climbing over where all the animals where and then getting shouted at by park staff
Thay had this thing at the back that was utterly terrifying as a kid (in socks). It was a platform that moved back and forth with huge flexible metal sheets attaching it to higher platforms (at the floor level of the building) and it had high sidewalls, so once you were in it you were in it and you had to leave the way you came in. You could slide down a metal sheet from either side and scramble onto the moving platform, then you had to make it back up to the floor level. This was difficult and needed some decent timing and a good few attempts which would tire you out as you couldn't get any grip on the metal with your socks,. This gave the impression to 10yr old me that I might not make it out and be stuck on the platform forever, it was properly scary to me. 😧
I loved the wild mouse. Last rode it in 2015. Was a shock whin i heard it had gone. So glad i was able to get a ride on it. I remember the log flume, noahs ark, the monorail and gold mine too. Never got to ride space invader though. Wasnt a fan of coasters at that point (and when i did go on my first in 2004 (?) i didnt even know it was a coaster haha). This park has so many memories for soo many people.
Oh yes, the park is full of memories, me included. I know it is not a museum, but when things are removed and not replaced or sit there non operational I have to question some decisions.
I remember being on the wild mouse in 1984 when i was 9............it was honestly the most scary ride I had ever been on and remember the operator having to stop the ride because of my screams and tears...........Jeez that thing was horrendous - but fond memories all the same 😬
Blackpool pleasure beach was at its prime when Valhalla and the log flume were both running. Also had Space Invader, Gold Mine and Wild Mouse as well. The early 2000’s were the best time. The log flume is most missed by me personally. Infusion wrecks my neck
I remember an extremely steep (nigh on vertical) drop on a very wide, metal slide; was that Morecambe? The one at Blackpool on this vid does not seem to be the same.
@@SaxJockey yes there was a wide big slide (I think called the death slide) then there was a narrow one, the kamikaze that was almost one step beyond vertical and I'm sure caused many injuries over the years!
@@peachesmcgee4795 Thanks, thought so. Just found a still image of what looks like the death slide, but it's title is '1950s Britain, Funhouse, Blackpool Pleasure Beach'. You can see that people were barely in contact with the upper part of the slide. Guess Blackpool subsequently replaced that with the (more tame) multiple lane slide shown in this vid.
Anyone remember those horses that you sat on, like a rollercoaster but sat on a bloody plastic horse with a lap strap................I still remember that and the WILD MOUSE 40 odd years later - scarred me for life 😂

I miss the haunted hotel most. My dads favourite ride was the wild mouse, will always say that out of every coaster he's ever been on, that will always be the most intense!
Missed out quite a bit. Could make a part two covering the stuff like the water Shute,tutle chase,original dogems,whip,bumper boats,bling,magic mountain
It's so sad that these rides were well loved by all including me I remember the monorail & crazy mouse it's so sad that nothing was kept from these rides, & they were scrapped so easily it's so wrong it's apart of our history childhoods that we can't get back there definitely should be a museum dedicated to all rides that have gone I remember riding the gravity flat ride where you were stuck to the wall it was fun until nasty people started dropping there drinks on riders someone always has to spoil someone else's fun thanks for sharing this video & sharing rides that no longer exist.
Wild mouse, space invader and the grand national were the standout r8des from my school trips, we used to travel from Manchester to visit the pleasure beach every year before the summer holidays ...... ❤❤❤

At 17:29 during the wild mouse segment, there is a blue house. After going nearly once very couple of months to Blackpool, i didnt go for maybe 15 years, on my return, there was that blue house attraction. It was a horror maze with a dark spinning disc as the final payoff. Im being super vague but i loved it. One of the best rides at the park. A few years later, it was gone again. I have no idea the name of the ride or anything. Blackpool pleasure beach and Southports old pleasure island bring back good memories as a little boy, as my parents got divorced so my now passed away father would pick me up on the weekends and we'd go together. Fun times. 1980's has good memories.

When you are a small park like Blackpool that has been open over 125 years things are going to come and go, but I still miss some of the old attractions.
The Monster was the Octopus type ride,but it was far better than a normal Octopus ride .It was near the entrance in front of the Reel.I went on inthe 70's and early 80's.Loved it.Depending on the operator,he used to swing the arms up and down a few times before it started rotating .The carriages would spin fast and slow.
The park at Montreal's Expo 67 also had a very similar log flume ride, and was one of the most popular family rides for the 50 years it operated. It was announced overnight that it had reached the end of it's useful life, and closed, to great disappointment. They should have rebuilt another one.
Virginia Reel was the best ride ever. We knew it simply as “Tubs”, no other ride like it anywhere else. Would love to ride a modern version of it. Wild mouse was also quality
❤ I visited several times in the 1980s. I loved Noah's Ark (even though it didn't actually do anything) and loved the Miners Goldfield ride that went through a cafe, only went on the steeplechase once as it was a LOT faster and terrifying than it actually looked. Loved the Fun House and somehow managed to spend six hours in there one day. Now live in Australia, so unlikely to ever get back. Happy memories of spending days there when I was in my teens.

Space Invader and Gold Mine were both pencilled to have featured in the cancelled Dr Who season in 1985. Nice to be able to see some of them as never got to Blackpool myself.
If it’s in the really old footage it could be the Rainbow Wheel. It’s one ride I’d love to know more about. Apparently visitors sat in a static car while the wheel rotated around them with different scenes. The Pleasure Beach has had its fair share of unusual rides!
Do you mean the dome at 17:21 ? If so, that had a circular Gravity Rotor ride inside (cannot recall its actual name). Went on that circ 1980, the protective head cushion was not in the correct place; it felt like my head was being put through a potato chipper as it pressed against the metal cage 😂.
I remember my Dad falling inside the rotating drum thingy - was that in the Fun House? Also there was a Laughing Policeman - bet he went ages ago! Is The Grand National still there?

Remember the funhouse had many parties their in the last and I forgot about the monorail passing through, however the smell of sweaty feet was horrendous
Will always remember my first ride on Valhalla on the year 7 school trip, the £2.50 plastic ponsho went over my head and was covering my face. I spent 90% of the ride trying not to get water boarded
The Wild Mouse was brilliaint and it took up a very small footprint. They said the wood was rotten but they could have built a replica to last for the next 60 years.
I miss the hip bruising Rainbow Ride. When the park was quiet, you could sit alone in a double seat and they would rank up the speed and let the ride go on longer.
The Funhouse was such great value. It was about 50p and you could be in there for hours, or until you damaged yourself on the laughably unsafe rides inside. I burned my arms coming down the massively steep slide, and was sick on the big spinning disk that flung you to the sides if you tried to get to the middle. Ahh life before mollycoddling :)
I went to Blackpool maybe 3 times a year in my childhood. Have very fond memories of the gold mine, river caves, space invader, Noah’s ark and nearly breaking my hip on wild mouse 😂 Haven’t been to Blackpool since 2017 and never been on ICON. I’m trying to think what ride ICON replaced but I can’t put my finger on it
Wow, seeing these old rides brings back so many memories from my childhood. The Funhouse was amazing but was a health and safety nightmare by todays standards. The Haunted Swing to this day is the most freaked out I have ever been on a ride to this day and I'm not scared to go on any ride but the Haunted Swing remains the most intense thing I have even been on 🤣I closed my eyes after a few seconds. It's so sad to see these old attractions disappear. I get it, things get old and they have to keep things fresh to attract visitors.

great vid, tho you go some infone wrong. The haunted swing is still operating as part of impossible and has been since 2001. (also you should work on editing out the awkward pauses between sentences in future) Otherwise really good and informative vid
Thanks for watching and the feedback. Although part of Impossible, on all my visits the Haunted Swing has been closed. An online source confirmed this, but if it’s reopened for 2024 I will be rushing to Blackpool for a ride.
@@CoasterConnections On both the dark ride database and pleasure beach's website it says it's still open. also on my last vist to blackpool in 2019 (which was a while ago) I went on it but you can imagine it's a model of ride which breaks down a lot lol
Every time we went space invader was not operating! never got to ride it, Wild Mouse was a classic always the first ride id go on, usually had mild whiplash for the rest of the day but worth it
My first visit was after virginia reel and the funhouse closed, but i miss every other ride on this list, didnt know theyd closed the swing part of impossible. You can add trauma towers to the list too...
It's lost as a stand alone attraction. On my last few visits it hasn't operated, and there are reports that it has ceased operation. But this is Pleasure Beach so it could open tomorrow again without warning. 🤪
OMG! My teen years in the 80's all in one video! Haunted Swing in 80/81 & 82 had a man running it who looked like Lurch he'd sit with you and say "Stay seated" Proper creepy he was. I remember going the first year of "Space Invader" The Queue was massive with a mans voice booming from a speaker saying how "Unbelievable" it was. The Wild Mouse. Imagine having that now! The amount of whiplash claims going in ! Also remember them having a Bucking Bronco there which was next to Haunted Swing. Also in the 90's it had a ride called Monster. Also the swinging Pirate Ship It's a shame what's happened to Blackpool Pleasure Beach. All to do with greed. Seeing some of the closed rides now it looks dilapidated and worn out.
I love this! So many memories in one post. The pleasure beach was always so kinetic and full of life. I also remember all the recorded attraction spells like the one on Space Invader. The Wild Mouse is one of my most missed rides anywhere!

Oh my God!! I've been watching these utube videos about Blackpool Pleasure beach for years and not once has anyone ever mentioned the Rainbow ride!! Well done guys! It's was one of the most stunning rides that place has ever seen. It stood right at the entrance and the light show it gave off was incredible!! Where did you find that footage? ❤❤❤❤❤ Well done

I loved the haunted swing!! Blew my mind when I was a kid

My favourite was always the goldmine, they really managed to get everything to work together so well on that ride.
It was a true classic. I loved how it interacted with the River Caves and nearby cafe.
Despite me not remembering most of these rides or being born after their removal, it’s awesome to hear about these rides knowing my family have photos somewhere of us on them and even family no longer around on the monorail, log flume and the gold mine. I remember we used to visit pleasure beach every year until 2014 and only went back in October of this year!
Still mad I never got to go on wild mouse, great vid by the way.
I remember having a deep hatred for Noah’s ark and I have no idea why, my family still comment on it to this day. I reckon I just didn’t want to walk around 😂

There is another video on RUclips speculating as to why the Pleasure Beach is declining. This is a good pointer. The loss of Al the family friendly rides in favour of full on scare em rides is sad. As a youngster I loved all the side stalls, the monorail, railway etc. Sad😢 Oh and not being able to walk round anymore without paying entrance fee a bad move.
You are right, a park needs a mix of family and thrill attractions. A lot on this list could be enjoyed by all generations. While I see the benefits of not having open entry, the atmosphere that the park used to have was amazing.
Well, wallace and grommit isnt exactly thrills, but its a rubbish replacement for gold mine!
I loved the wild mouse, I remember going on it with my uncle and having to be careful not to head butt him in the chin as we got whipped round the track, good times!

When a teenager, in a moment of madness I went on the wild mouse with a friend. I was terrified as it really felt like the mouse would come off the track. After that it always made me smile when I walked passed it thinking once but never again 😂 Happy days 😀

The tracks looked like they were made from a coat hanger.
😂It really did. I loved watching the mouse dart around though when I wasn’t on it. It is a part of Pleasure Beach history I will never forget.

The log flume was one of the greatest rides and always a go to for us when we visited. Another fun ride not show here more for younger ones was the turtle ride a sort of tea cups ride but with turtles. And then the was the monster rider were the Ice Blast is now, that was an awesome ride.
I remember going on the Noah Ark ride as a kid and jumping the barriers and climbing over where all the animals where and then getting shouted at by park staff

It would never have been the same these days. It would not be an all day thing like it used to be.
Thay had this thing at the back that was utterly terrifying as a kid (in socks). It was a platform that moved back and forth with huge flexible metal sheets attaching it to higher platforms (at the floor level of the building) and it had high sidewalls, so once you were in it you were in it and you had to leave the way you came in.
You could slide down a metal sheet from either side and scramble onto the moving platform, then you had to make it back up to the floor level. This was difficult and needed some decent timing and a good few attempts which would tire you out as you couldn't get any grip on the metal with your socks,. This gave the impression to 10yr old me that I might not make it out and be stuck on the platform forever, it was properly scary to me. 😧
But we loved it in the Fun House all day age of 10..

I loved the wild mouse. Last rode it in 2015. Was a shock whin i heard it had gone. So glad i was able to get a ride on it. I remember the log flume, noahs ark, the monorail and gold mine too. Never got to ride space invader though. Wasnt a fan of coasters at that point (and when i did go on my first in 2004 (?) i didnt even know it was a coaster haha). This park has so many memories for soo many people.
Oh yes, the park is full of memories, me included. I know it is not a museum, but when things are removed and not replaced or sit there non operational I have to question some decisions.
You didn't miss much, always found Space Invader to be short and not particularly exciting.
Wonderful to see some of my favourite rides again.

I remember being on the wild mouse in 1984 when i was 9............it was honestly the most scary ride I had ever been on and remember the operator having to stop the ride because of my screams and tears...........Jeez that thing was horrendous - but fond memories all the same 😬

Blackpool pleasure beach was at its prime when Valhalla and the log flume were both running. Also had Space Invader, Gold Mine and Wild Mouse as well. The early 2000’s were the best time. The log flume is most missed by me personally. Infusion wrecks my neck
I loved the 90's and early 2000's at Pleasure Beach. Certainly a great time for the park.
There was a similar funhouse in Morecambe-loved it as a kid.

I remember an extremely steep (nigh on vertical) drop on a very wide, metal slide; was that Morecambe? The one at Blackpool on this vid does not seem to be the same.
@@SaxJockey yes there was a wide big slide (I think called the death slide) then there was a narrow one, the kamikaze that was almost one step beyond vertical and I'm sure caused many injuries over the years!
@@peachesmcgee4795 Thanks, thought so. Just found a still image of what looks like the death slide, but it's title is '1950s Britain, Funhouse, Blackpool Pleasure Beach'. You can see that people were barely in contact with the upper part of the slide. Guess Blackpool subsequently replaced that with the (more tame) multiple lane slide shown in this vid.

Anyone remember those horses that you sat on, like a rollercoaster but sat on a bloody plastic horse with a lap strap................I still remember that and the WILD MOUSE 40 odd years later - scarred me for life 😂
The Steeplechase… it’s still there and operating! The last one of its type in the world.

I miss the haunted hotel most. My dads favourite ride was the wild mouse, will always say that out of every coaster he's ever been on, that will always be the most intense!

It's so sad that these rides were well loved by all including me I remember the monorail & crazy mouse it's so sad that nothing was kept from these rides, & they were scrapped so easily it's so wrong it's apart of our history childhoods that we can't get back there definitely should be a museum dedicated to all rides that have gone I remember riding the gravity flat ride where you were stuck to the wall it was fun until nasty people started dropping there drinks on riders someone always has to spoil someone else's fun thanks for sharing this video & sharing rides that no longer exist.

Wild mouse, space invader and the grand national were the standout r8des from my school trips, we used to travel from Manchester to visit the pleasure beach every year before the summer holidays ...... ❤❤❤
That’s some great memories there. Being from Yorkshire our school trips were always to Flamingo Land… might need to document their lost rides.
@@CoasterConnections yeah, I used to go there as a child when the campsite first opened, it was a great place as it had the zoo as well, a video on that wold be great.
At 17:29 during the wild mouse segment, there is a blue house. After going nearly once very couple of months to Blackpool, i didnt go for maybe 15 years, on my return, there was that blue house attraction. It was a horror maze with a dark spinning disc as the final payoff. Im being super vague but i loved it. One of the best rides at the park. A few years later, it was gone again.
I have no idea the name of the ride or anything.
Blackpool pleasure beach and Southports old pleasure island bring back good memories as a little boy, as my parents got divorced so my now passed away father would pick me up on the weekends and we'd go together. Fun times. 1980's has good memories.

When you are a small park like Blackpool that has been open over 125 years things are going to come and go, but I still miss some of the old attractions.
I do, I’m sure it was where skyforce is and the icon track.
They also had the same ride in Rhyl funfair called the runaway mine train

The Monster was the Octopus type ride,but it was far better than a normal Octopus ride .It was near the entrance in front of the Reel.I went on inthe 70's and early 80's.Loved it.Depending on the operator,he used to swing the arms up and down a few times before it started rotating .The carriages would spin fast and slow.
The park at Montreal's Expo 67 also had a very similar log flume ride, and was one of the most popular family rides for the 50 years it operated. It was announced overnight that it had reached the end of it's useful life, and closed, to great disappointment. They should have rebuilt another one.
I think parks underestimate how much people still love a classic log flume. Across my videos they are one of the most missed rides.
Virginia Reel was the best ride ever. We knew it simply as “Tubs”, no other ride like it anywhere else. Would love to ride a modern version of it. Wild mouse was also quality
I’d love a modern version too. Spinning coasters just aren’t the same!
I went to school with the lad who died on Space Invader, it was the summer between Primary and High School. A truly sad loss 😢

❤ I visited several times in the 1980s. I loved Noah's Ark (even though it didn't actually do anything) and loved the Miners Goldfield ride that went through a cafe, only went on the steeplechase once as it was a LOT faster and terrifying than it actually looked. Loved the Fun House and somehow managed to spend six hours in there one day. Now live in Australia, so unlikely to ever get back. Happy memories of spending days there when I was in my teens.

Forgot how many beloved rides have gone, really miss the log flume, wild mouse, monorail, Space Invader and Noah's Ark! I remember riding the Greatest Show when it was in the casino in 1985, I was only 5 and found it scary!
So many rides have gone from Blackpool. I miss a lot of them too.
I think a lot of the dark rides are scary… Magic Mountain was down right weird!

Space Invader and Gold Mine were both pencilled to have featured in the cancelled Dr Who season in 1985. Nice to be able to see some of them as never got to Blackpool myself.

If it’s in the really old footage it could be the Rainbow Wheel.
It’s one ride I’d love to know more about. Apparently visitors sat in a static car while the wheel rotated around them with different scenes.
The Pleasure Beach has had its fair share of unusual rides!
Do you mean the dome at 17:21 ? If so, that had a circular Gravity Rotor ride inside (cannot recall its actual name). Went on that circ 1980, the protective head cushion was not in the correct place; it felt like my head was being put through a potato chipper as it pressed against the metal cage 😂.
I remember my Dad falling inside the rotating drum thingy - was that in the Fun House? Also there was a Laughing Policeman - bet he went ages ago! Is The Grand National still there?
If you mean the laughing man, his head was all that survived the fire. There are pictures of firemen carrying it out.
The Wild Mouse really was wild, many a time I came off aching 😂

The Wild Mouse is the coaster I miss the most at Pleasure Beach.
I remember going on the reel. It could be a real headbanger, literally. There was a few coming together of heads on that ride.

Loved the Fun House
I can see why. A lot of people were devastated when it burned down.
A place where yer parents dumped you as they hit the pubs.
Remember the funhouse had many parties their in the last and I forgot about the monorail passing through, however the smell of sweaty feet was horrendous

Will always remember my first ride on Valhalla on the year 7 school trip, the £2.50 plastic ponsho went over my head and was covering my face. I spent 90% of the ride trying not to get water boarded
Fun fact. I’ve never been on Valhalla. In my younger years I didn’t want to get wet, then as an adult it’s has been closed every visit!
The American football themed dodgems were absolutely brutal, those things dished out whiplash on the regular

The Wild Mouse was brilliaint and it took up a very small footprint. They said the wood was rotten but they could have built a replica to last for the next 60 years.
Many wooden rides have sections replaces, that’s part of the ongoing maintenance of the ride type. Maybe the cost was too high, but I miss that ride!
I miss the hip bruising Rainbow Ride. When the park was quiet, you could sit alone in a double seat and they would rank up the speed and let the ride go on longer.
That’s the best thing about those rides!
The Funhouse was such great value. It was about 50p and you could be in there for hours, or until you damaged yourself on the laughably unsafe rides inside. I burned my arms coming down the massively steep slide, and was sick on the big spinning disk that flung you to the sides if you tried to get to the middle. Ahh life before mollycoddling :)
I expect you weren't the only one that stayed in all day, or came out with an injury! But it was all good fun.
There were no unsafe rides, all the rides are safe minus wild mouse imo.
Shadow of it's former self now the pleasure beach and so expensive to. I personally preferred frontierland in Morecambe

I went to Blackpool maybe 3 times a year in my childhood. Have very fond memories of the gold mine, river caves, space invader, Noah’s ark and nearly breaking my hip on wild mouse 😂 Haven’t been to Blackpool since 2017 and never been on ICON. I’m trying to think what ride ICON replaced but I can’t put my finger on it
It is built partly where the Tom Sawyer bridge was located and is on the site of a number of rides including the rafts and Turtle Chase.
The Fun house was great you could spend all day in there
There is nothing like it around today.

Wow, seeing these old rides brings back so many memories from my childhood. The Funhouse was amazing but was a health and safety nightmare by todays standards. The Haunted Swing to this day is the most freaked out I have ever been on a ride to this day and I'm not scared to go on any ride but the Haunted Swing remains the most intense thing I have even been on 🤣I closed my eyes after a few seconds. It's so sad to see these old attractions disappear. I get it, things get old and they have to keep things fresh to attract visitors.
I agree, it’s not a museum and needs to build new attractions. But still miss some of the old ones.

Although part of Impossible, on all my visits the Haunted Swing has been closed. An online source confirmed this, but if it’s reopened for 2024 I will be rushing to Blackpool for a ride.
@@CoasterConnections On both the dark ride database and pleasure beach's website it says it's still open. also on my last vist to blackpool in 2019 (which was a while ago) I went on it but you can imagine it's a model of ride which breaks down a lot lol

Every time we went space invader was not operating! never got to ride it, Wild Mouse was a classic always the first ride id go on, usually had mild whiplash for the rest of the day but worth it

When you said the haunted swing went from impossible (Blackpool) when I went to Blackpool pleasure beach in 2017, it was still there
It's lost as a stand alone attraction. On my last few visits it hasn't operated, and there are reports that it has ceased operation. But this is Pleasure Beach so it could open tomorrow again without warning. 🤪

OMG! My teen years in the 80's all in one video! Haunted Swing in 80/81 & 82 had a man running it who looked like Lurch he'd sit with you and say "Stay seated" Proper creepy he was. I remember going the first year of "Space Invader" The Queue was massive with a mans voice booming from a speaker saying how "Unbelievable" it was. The Wild Mouse. Imagine having that now! The amount of whiplash claims going in ! Also remember them having a Bucking Bronco there which was next to Haunted Swing. Also in the 90's it had a ride called Monster. Also the swinging Pirate Ship It's a shame what's happened to Blackpool Pleasure Beach. All to do with greed. Seeing some of the closed rides now it looks dilapidated and worn out.
