Love the photo fade details, no idea how you line those up so well
Tonnes of time haha
ha i was just wondering the same thing, spot on love your videos!
@@AdventureMe Those photo fades are very impressive!
Darren , King of "Photo Fades." Always loved the history of Amusement Parks. Two local "former" Amusement Parks that were close to where we live was Pacific Ocean Park in Santa Monica CA and The Pike in Long Beach CA. The history of Pleasure Beach goes pretty far back. Thank to Darren for keeping history alive and kicking.
I've been to Santa Monica Pier
@@AdventureMe "POP" aka Pacific Ocean Park was at a different pier -- long gone. I just noticed your mountain logo is made of the letter "A" and letter "M" Happy Saturday
What a trip down memory lane for me personally.
Thanks for the memories Darren. 👍
Great vlog thanks
My pleasure
Really nice to see those photo fades that you do so well back Darren.
Thanks 👍
It's funny, my lasting memory of the Pleasure Beach is as it was in the late 80's to mid 90's. I can close my eyes & walk through the park & see it as it was then. I've lived in Blackpool all my life, a stones throw from the park & have great memories of just walking through to get to town, when it was free to enter of course, especially with my late father & stopping off at the arcades near the White Tower Restaurant. The main thing that is noticeable by its absence now is the wooden bridge that led you over the Tom Sawyer ride (another lost ride) with the Loch Ness Monster that popped up every now & again. I believe it was taken out to make room for Icon. They also had ducks & geese living under there & had divers collect all the coins dropped & flipped in the pool underneath.
Also, I used to love "The Beast", a simulator ride of the American roller coaster, which also ran my favourite simulated movie, "Crazy Cart Capers"! Who remembers that, now long gone & where the Burger king now sits across from another ride that's long gone, "The Tokaydo Express"!
Great memories!
Thanks for watching
@@SonOfAldabarran wasn’t the beast ride underneath the big ones first drop in a building, or am I remembering it wrong
@@bennyboy8446 It was in a small building for weather protection, but it was definitely where the Burger King now sits as it was on the right as you entered from the old south entrance from the car park, opposite the Tokaydo Express, which is where the Red Arrows Skyforce ride is now I believe.
@@SonOfAldabarran oh right I know, I can’t seem to remember it there. I remember going on it as it was amazing, it used to rock as if you were on a woody. Maybe it moved later on great memories 😀
Where you were standing at 8:34 there was once a cafe there that belonged to my uncle. Directly above your head at that point was a red arcade with big round windows and green domes on top. That belonged (we were concessionaires of course) to my dad roughly between 1980 and 1990 when I was a teenager up to the age of 21. So as you can imagine I spent a massive amount of time here.
The space tower that you mentioned dropped off its passengers into my dad’s arcade through a circular door.
The white domed building you viewed shortly after also belonged to my dad. The glass outside part was an arcade and the inside a pool room. Originally there was a ride on the inside with a movable floor where one sat and viewed a projection onto the inside of the dome. Can’t quite remember the name of it.
Also there was a circular dome shaped building attached to the red arcade called the laser show. I spent many many how’s and also worked in these arcades when I was young.
Great memories. I do remember the red arcade building.
I remember riding on the monorail - probably in the 1960s - and what my parents called "the laughing clown," whose voice we hear just at the end, there. I remember the cable cars too, but never went on them. Thanks for the memory, Darren!
Thanks for the memories
Theyre constantly making changes to the PB but they got rid of two ways you could see what IS all over the park.
The clown that used to be in front of the fun house is now in a little garden bit behind avalanche
Really enjoyed this post well done. Loved the pic fades . I'm 62 now and have great memories of the pleasure beach as a child . thank you :)
Many thanks!
Thanks for that. A nice walk down memory lane. How clean, open and uncluttered the Pleasure Beach used to look!
Sehr gut
Thank you Darren 👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻
I'm always very impressed (and fascinated) with your "then and now" fades. Thanks for another great video!
Thanks again!
Loved this! I was at the Pleasure Beach that day showing my 16yo daughter lots of the bits you covered in your video, and I can't believe I forgot about the Cableway!
I definitely have memories of the monorail stopping at the front of the casino building, and was showing her where it used to go.
Brilliant video! Love, love, love the photo fades!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Absolutely brilliant you are a king of fadeaway bringing back lost history keep it up a legend gives me goosebumps watching so professional 👍
Much appreciated ☺️
Awesome video mate. Definitely learned a few things I never knew about the pleasure beach.
Great one Darren, loved the photofades as always. Excellent job. Cheers!
Glad you enjoyed it
Excellent video. The photo fades were absolutely spot on!
Yay, thank you!
Loved this one, great information from the past. Keep up with the great work you do.
Such memories. Fab video. Fade in fade out totally amazing. You are a master of what you do. Excellent filming and narration. Well done. Thank you for all your hard work.
Wow, thank you!
Yet another fantastic video Darren, apart from that silly burk in the bucket hat, in the intro. 😂 Photo fades are amazing as always. You just line them up perfectly. Was an absolute pleasure spending the day with you pal. ♥️👍🏻🎢
Yeah who did he think he was, Liam Gallagher. Glad you enjoyed it. Loved the company too.
Another fantastic video. I love these sort of videos before and after
Glad you like them!
Some great content. I have very fond memories of BPB. First went in 1987 when I was 7, then again in 1996 when I was 16. Didn't return there after that until 2021. The memories came flooding back, was really emotional.
Tons of memories for me! My parents used to take me there in the late 60's-early 70's. I remember the Big Dipper, the Ghost Train, and best of all. The Mad Mouse! :) Great vid :)
Great lppk back at the fascinating Pleasure Beach. Thanks for all ypur hard work.Your much appreciated.😂
Glad you enjoyed it
Love this vid, massive family memories of BPB, indeed Blackpool! remember all you have shown and more over the years, including the monster i think it was called and the reel near to it! I also remember the huge Gulliver holding up the Monorail and a green serpent thing that we used to climb all over, absolute joy for us as kids from working class background, we only were allowed to go on a couple of rides each as the money would allow but we were more than happy with that! the whole experience of Blackpool was enough i cannot actually explain the total happiness!
Me too
Very cool Darren. Thanks for the memories 😊
Used to travel to Blackpool every year with friends then our Kids, Saturday night at Uncle Tom's Cabin was always the highlight. The old fun house was the place to be to enjoy the slides & turntable decks. Thanks for the memories!
Couldn't agree more!
Proper enjoyed that you took me back to a time I could remember most the rides of the time and most have gone from my 70s era
wow amazing brought back some great memories
Losing my mind at this video Darren! Fantastic and up there with your American Adventure videos! Absolutely love Pleasure Beach and your work!
Glad you enjoyed it
Great video Darren, very interesting, lovely photo fades👌,such an amazing park👌👍😀
Thanks 👍
Very interesting loved the photo fades, great times in Blackpool pleasure beach. Remember monorail going through the fun house, and looking at all the rides while on it. 😎
Oh yes!
Love cosying up and watching your videos on a rainy Sunday! Always gutted when it has to come to an end! Love your stuff mate, thanks for making these gems ❤
Glad you enjoy it!
As a former Blackpool resident that brought so many memories back. My sister and I spent hours and hours in the giant sand pit that was under the monorail track where it was held up by Gulliver.
I have a photo some where of me and my mum sat outside the sand pit around 1976, It had white wall surrounding it with glass panels so people could see in side, Happy memories thanks mate.
Absolute superb camera work and those fade-outs are second to none
Thanks mate
Another good video Darren - done professionally as always with brilliant photo fades! Always look forward to my Sunday night 'Adventure Me' videos! 🙂
Nice one thanks
I can remember riding the monorail thru part of the fun house too! Another great video, love learning and checking out how different these amazing placing were. Thanks Darren ❤
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video lovely memories loved the photo fades ss
Thanks so much
Hi Darren, just came across your channel and I’m so glad I did 👍🏻loved this one especially the old photo fades which really show how much it’s changed over the years, looking forward to seeing more now
Welcome aboard! Plenty of similar stuff on here. Enjoy them 😁
Great video very Informative I find closed rides creepy I loved the fade in effects of old photos. Good job
Glad you enjoyed
Loved that. Brought back memories as a kid from the 70 and 80s. The fade out are great coupled to the slightly meloncoly music, puts a lump in your throat. Well done as always. Have you ever look into southports peasure beach i remember a kids car ride that was on a contrete track with a rail to stop you driving off it with a scenic surroundings and it was all undercover
Glad you enjoyed it. I have considered Southport
Great video again Darren! The photo fades are fantastic! Amazing how the park transforms over the years, with new rides being installed and older rides being somewhat dismantled or kept throughout the park.
I think there is a photo fade error at 16:28 as you’re on the North side of Watson Road and the fade photo is showing the Big Dipper and Log Flume, which were both on the South side of Watson Road.
Yes. Artistic licence on that one. It was a last minute addition. Well done for noticing
Thank you for sharing this film
It's my pleasure
Another excellent Video ,Cleverly done and yes i remember the monorail station in the casino Building.
Glad you enjoyed it
Your video fades always amaze me, so fascinating 😊
Glad you like them!
Absolutely fantastic video dude. Our 11 year old lad loves Blackpool and always asks about the old times. Will definitely let him watch this.
Please do!
That was great work there pal so interesting the way you done that I have so many great memories of the pleasure beach going back decades. Thanks for that. Gerry from Scotland.
Thanks 👍
Fantastic video ☺️ I also remember the cafe next to the ghost train. The Gold mine and river caves ran through it if I remember right 👍
Absolutely quality video as usual mate 👌
Thanks 👍
Great vlog Darren, one of my earliest memories of Blackpool Pleasure Beach as a kid in the 70's was the Tom Sawyer water ride. Sure it was where the Icon ride is now.
Yes it was
The building that housed the Black Hole waltzer ride was domed because it was originally built as a planetarium-style attraction called Journey Into Space. The seats all faced the same direction and at the start of the show, the platform on which the seats were located tilted backwards about 15-20 degrees so you were looking up into the dome. Before the dome was built, the original circular platform was home to circular rides, such as the Jets.
The Turtle Chase moved from the Ice Blast site to the mound where Icon now resides back in the Sixties. This was to make way for the Eyerley Monster ride, which arrived at the Pleasure Beach in 1968.
Love these videos!
I remeber the building having some kind of doctor who experience at one point b4 the walzer in the dark like the ride that was in the dome I don't know why they are not running anymore two good rides to go to get out of the rain, but it looks like both sites along with the grandprix and possibly the tunnel of love and former site of wild mouse are to be the site of the next big thing
Fantastic video as always.
The photos I sent were taken by my grandad, Selwyn, who gave me my love for BPB.
He has a brick on the Wall of Fame there that says “Hold my teeth”. After almost losing them once on some waltzers, he would always hand his false teeth to my Nana when he went on the fast rides! 🤣
Thanks again x
What an absolutey amazing video. So good it gave me chills 😊
Thank you so much!!
Thank you. Remembering many happy family holidays from the 60s and 70s.
Thank you too
Great video. I remember there was also a go cart track in the 80s where the space tower car park is now...below the Black Hole.
Excellent video, thank you
Fantastic nostalgic look at the past, I remember a few of those rides and going on them in particular the monorail, cable cars, water chute, and log flume. Great video 😊
First time commenting on one of your vids. Just had to say, that was bloody fantastic.
Hey, thanks! Glad you liked it
👏what a fabulous vlogs ty. I never ever remembered that carasel at big dipper. Wander if any remains of that pub farcside sure it was called the star had entertainment
I do love a good photo fade, especially when it’s almost pixel perfect 😊
Noah’s Ark will always have a special place in my heart as I used to go to Blackpool quite frequently as a kid and teen and always had a go on it. It such a shame my children never got a chance to go on it.
Really enjoyed this video. Those Photo Fades are just top notch. I've always got a soft spot for Blackpool Pleasure Beach (Resort) with lots of childhood memories since my first visit in 1984. A lot of history and old forgotten rides. I enjoyed the Monorail and my favourite part was going round the Casino White Tower Building because it let you see how busy the Prom was outside and people waved to you.
Glad you enjoyed it
Excellent video as always Darren! Never seen someone say the words "right here" so much! :-). See you at a park sometime soon hopefully!
What can I say haha
Such a wonderful video. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Brilliant video I find it fascinating how things used to be always loved pleasure beach
Great video, thanks. I remember that the monorail used to run through the back of the Funhouse (now Valhalla).
Yes it did
My dad had a Mr Funshine tie as he did the bingo at BPB. He pointed out a Smarties sweet stall that was his old bingo stall. So many awesome rides and themes have gone. All the old bridges, the blue water, Haunted Hotel, Tagada. I would not change my childhood in the 90s in Blackpool for anything.
Love it!!
Brilliant video full of history thank you for the history lesson ❤
Glad you enjoyed it
Well that takes me back. Fascinating as ever. In one of your earlier videos about the Pleasure Beach, you took us to a car park round the back to point something out. I don't remember what, because behind you was a storage area which had what looked like the old monorail cars in it.
Yeah it was the bond st car park.
Fascinating video, Darren 👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Turtle Chase was always a favourite of mine as a kid, I remember rushing to it on a visit with my little sister who was finally old enough to ride it to find out it no longer existed! Wish it was still there
You'd have to fly over to Pennsylvania's Kennywood park to experience what I believe is the last remaining working example. I've ridden it at least twice and they keep it in very good condition, with a wonderful neon sign near its entrance.
Such a shame that Pleasure Beach just trashed their one (some carriages were sold off I think).
fascinating Darren
Thanks for a great video that brought back so many memories of my excited boys on different rides, they are both in their 30's now so I must send them the link.....
Glad you enjoyed it
Used to come to Blackpool Pleasure Beach often in the 1980s but not anymore. Just wish the rides that are no more were still here. I miss the Log Flume, Cable Cars, Monorail, Octopus, Gold Mine, Wild Mouse and enjoying the Fun House in my grey stockingfeet.
Excellent footage Darren, I'd forgotten half of these rides. Thanks for the memories, we spent many a happy day at Blackpool. I love the fantastic photo fades and really appreciate all the time and effort you put into your videos. Cheers, take care 👍
Thanks 👍
That was so well done , the log flume, I hated that ride , as a kid our parents would put us on it , we would get drenched, then be too wet to go on any other rides and then walk around Blackpool with wet clothes for the rest of the day , good times really
Really enjoyed this video ! Thank you 😊 I miss the log flume and monorail 😢.
You and me both!
Hello Darren how are you fantastic vidio of pleasure beach resort yes I remember the log from and space tower me and my dad went on it I really enjoyed it and I remember the cabel car best wishes take care stay safe xx ❤😅😅
Awesome Video mate, always nice to see a cameo too, still waiting for another appearance from Andy Birkett its been way too long
I went on the cable cars many years ago, they didn't actually stop as you boarded them, just slowed down and hopped in and the guy closed the door then they speeded up again. They were pretty high up too.Good views of the park.
I absolutely loved the Turtle Chase! So many memories. Thank you for this video. 😊
You are so welcome!
Brilliant as always Darren
Love these video's, remnants of the past hidden in plain sight.
So true @Jetsons 101 absolute photo fade god
Such a good video xxx
Thanks haha
My one and only memory of the pleasure beach is taking my girlfriend now wife
On the grand national told her it wasn’t a big ride she was not happy
Still talk about it today last time we were in Blackpool our daughter was nearly 2
She’ll be 31 this year time flys thanks for the memories 👍
Fascinating stuff Darren learnt a lot from this video. Fade in & out shots superb as ever and very evocative!
Much appreciated!
Just finished watching the video. What a well made, attention grabbing and informative video. We are just starting our RUclips journey, but I aspire to be able to create content like this. Kudos on an incredible video, I thought I was pretty clued up on BPB, I knew about nothing you talked about in this video
Glad it was helpful! 😁
Such a great vlog Darren, just love the fades, the log flume was my favourite.😆
Mine too!
I don't remember the monorail going past the Casino but I do remember it going through the brilliant Funhouse (RIP 😢). If I remember rightly it also went down to near enough ground level by the railway. Gulliver still supporting the track towards the start of your video.
They should bring back a 21st century version especially as the track is still there.
I was also fascinated by them at Butlin's Minehead and aged 5 used to dissappear on there to go round and round on my own as you could back then. Just tell Mum & Dad where you were going.
Great video it was very interesting, thank you for sharing. I had no idea the Pleasure Beach had a space tower.
Glad you enjoyed it
Hey Darren! I was waiting for a fade in of the former Fun House where Valhalla currently stands, where i spent many of hours and days in my youth. Maybe next time hey great job love those fades. Thanks, keep them coming.
Already did that one in my first video.
Brilliant video. Yes there was a dodgem track with coin operated dodgems underground too. there were mirrors all around to reflect the rotating police lights that were on a shelf all around the dodgem track. My favourite area. There was an arcade above the toilets/dodgem track too. Turtle chase was replaced with the monster than Ice blast. I remember the travellators and loved them, they stopped working in the 80's and were just used as ramps.PS I have one of the Log Flume (Drench Falls) cars and converted it into a car. Have drove it down Blackpool prom many times and hit national press with it :=O. You have log flume and space tower entrances reversed mate, opposite sides to what you say, but never mine. Cable car ride used to have play area and ball pond under the boarding station, south cable station used to have trampolines under where the cable care entered. Mono rail should have never been removed, loved it and it had no doors on it back in the 70's ;-O Casino building did have a station on it ;-) Was told the merry-go round was located to the white tower arcade in the 70's, but I think is now boarded up. Exhalent video Darren. PS Do you remember the glass elevator on the white tower building?
I actually said I'm sure there was a dodgems in there. But I cut it out as I wasn't sure. So I was right.
Fantastic. You are so great at photo fades. 🎉
Thanks so much! 😊
Great nostalgic video Darren! 👏🏻
Cheers mate
Thanks Darren unfortunately i never got chance to ride the cable car. I remembered it was quite near to the old fun house. Great vid!
Glad you enjoyed it
changed so much since i was there in the 80's, remember the mono rail was about the only ride i went on
Another great video 😊
Thanks again!
Thank you for your video and more of an insite to how it used to be! Seems to be a lot of pass me on Buttlines things :-) and mining carts!
Really enjoyed this episode. I miss the raft ride which used to run under the log flume
Me too
Great work Darren, as per!
You forgot Fodis fun house for smaller kids under neath the cableway station (now Lokis) and the toilets you mentioned wasn’t in the cableway station at South Park , they was opposite inside the space invader which is now big pizza kitchen.
The monorail did stop at the arcade in the casino building which is now the paradise room, the old wonderful world ride (where Burger King is now) used to be in the arcade. I believe the turtle chase ride is in storage somewhere, but I could be wrong.
I love watching videos like this it really brightens my day going back to my childhood.
Keep up the great work, look forward to your next vlog.
Turtle Chase was completely scrapped unfortunately and I believe only Kennywood have one now. Fodi's was named after Amanda's Sister, Fiona. I remember Greatest Show on Earth being where Burger King is now but don't remember wonderful world being there. I remember Wonderful World being where the White Tower Casino building is now, like inside of there I mean.
Great video Darren. Fascinating photo fades. Will definitely try and seek out Leo the Lion next time I visit, even though his 'suck' is all gone!!! 😂😂😂 x
Thank you Darren 🎠
No problem
