To be quite honest, the Third Reich's invasion of Poland was negotiated and planned in detail, and carried out jointly with the USSR. *Stalin and Hitler began WWII together, as de facto allies* for the first two years. After Germany's defeat, the Germans (at least those living in the sectors administered by the Western Allies) went through some serious reckoning, including arguments, confessions and soul-searching within families. Nothing of the sort ever took place in Russia. Stalin's policies led to the deaths of more Russians (not to mention the non-Russians!) than at any other point in Russian history, yet even today most Russians view him as one of their greatest leaders. Hence the repeated obsession with militarist imperialism and brutal authoritarianism. Hence the grotesqueness of a proud KGB apparatchik, poisoner and war criminal masquerading as the defender of Christendom...
