    I spent most of my working life designing physical security solutions (some for very high security government installations) and all of these changes are perfect and very well researched. Hook mortice bolt locks are an excellent solution. Well done guys. It was sad to see that your sales tend to be to people who have already suffered a break-in - my products were sold under similar circumstances and it is crazy that folk fail to apply the proven principle that Prevention is Better than Cure and act BEFORE they suffer a break-in. Keep up the good work and edumacating Mr B !

    Thank you for sharing this video, I like the way how you've installed the PIR in the loading area, can I make a suggestion? Install a blackvue dashcam in the loading area, because if the thieves do get into the loading area, you've got footage, and the evidence will be strong enough to bring the thieves to justice, if you're self employed and you get your tools stolen, that will put you out of business.

    These Vans are not cheap, and you would expect manufacturers to already fit these devices, with the ford Vans, this has been around for a long time they should have recalled that vehicle. Part of the problem is the metal is so thin and flimsy on new vehicles like tin foil, they are cheaply made, but not cheap to buy.

    I picked my transit custom up and droved straight to Euro car spares and bought a Disklok, the next day (the earliest opportunity) I had the hook locks fitted on the load compartment, I also ordered the dummy OBD socket kit, and the drivers door is next, this shouldn't be necessary and years ago wouldn't have been because no one nicked the tools of a mans trade, now anything's game and getting worse.

We’ve had a big influx of van being done on the south coast in the past 2-3 weeks about 20vans in total. 2k out of pocket for second hand tools they’ll probably sell for 50-100 per item.

    Looks like they have fitted Euro type locks. Most of these style locks can be drilled surprisingly easily. More importantly is that the locks are not protected from water and the lock barrels allow water to run back into the lock as the van side slopes inwards. Really good effort though spoiled by a bad choice of lock.

    • @SkillBuilder
      @SkillBuilder  6 лет назад +2

      Thanks. I am starting to think that the hook lock is a problem. It needs spraying every couple of weeks to stop it rusting inside. I emailed the supplier and they didn't get back to me so I guess they are in denial.

    Just got I'd of my external locks and have a set of super strong solenoid with a rfid unlock on doors. Multiple solenoid son each door. Without the rfid tag there is no way into the van,no locks to pick. Few other choice touches too, can't be having stuff stolen!

    • @andrewwilson8317
      @andrewwilson8317 6 лет назад +1

      mike shramowiat sure. I fitted an RFID high security touch pad to the body next to drivers door handle. Touching this with the RFID transponder unlocks the door solenoids and allows door to open. Solenoids fitted to body boor opening and engage in holes in doors. The solenoids and door holes have strong doubler plates fitted to resist attempts to prise doors open. The solenoids are shielded from attack by the body and the doubler plates. The back doors are similar with two solenoids locking the sliding door and four locking the rear doors!
      Without the RFID tag there is no way other than strong physical violence to get into van. I realise a cordless angle grinder could cut van open but this could cut pretty much any van open?
      I do a lot of diagnostics and can't be having any of my stuff taken. There is also a van vault box bolted down to van chassis in back that is similarly locked to keep computer, tools and stuff in. Judging by the occasional scratches in the paint there has been at least three attempts to get in that I know of but locks held firm. My reckoning is they don't try for too long before picking another target? All I got to do is make it difficult enough to put them off for long enough to move on?

      I can't understand it. Given that vans are very similar, and every manufacturer is looking for an edge, it makes perfect sense for a manufacturer to produce a van that is much more secure than the competitors. If such a van existed I would buy it. That idea that Jeff has of pressing buttons on the steering wheel in a sequence is something every vehicle manufacturer could incorporate. A simple PIN

    • @popuptoaster
      @popuptoaster 6 лет назад

      Trouble is the more popular a van is then the more people are going to be looking for it's vulnerabilities, any manufacturers security system is put under huge pressure by having thousands of examples of itself out in the wild for the criminals to study and once they find a way in ALL the vans are at risk because they all know how to get in quickly.
      If a thief attacks a van with an independently fitted security system they first have to work out HOW the van has been secured and what tools they are going to need to get in it and unless they are specifically targeting YOUR stuff they are more likely to just go down the road and attack a van without the extra protection instead.
      It works the same way as the old IBM PC vs Mac computer virus debate, Mac owners liked to think their computers were virus proof, but in reality they got infected less because there were less of them and it just wasn't worth the time of the virus developers to write the software to attack them when there were far more IBM PCs with known vulnerabilities out there to infect.

      I like your analogy and there is some truth in the popularity argument but that door barrel was a disaster. Don't make excuses for them.
      Van owners deserve at least a basic level of security as standard and it isn't happening. High-level switches, alarm sensors in the cargo area and a programmable start sequence would help. It is still way too easy to steal Transit.

    • @popuptoaster

      They could at least try and do better, but in reality if the thieves really can't get into standard vans through the doors or windows they'll just bring a battery powered angle grinder and cut their way in after disabling the alarm.
      You can't win the battle against thieves all you can do is make it easier for them to go to someone else's van. A 100% secure van can still be picked up with a recovery lorry and driven away even with it's alarm going.
      Best thing for individual owners is to have a secure van while the other lads on site or down your street don't and then it'll be theirs that get broken into and not yours.
      Car dealer not far from me lost six cars in one night of his front, the crims backed a spec lift under them and just dragged them away, they were seen twice but no one thought to call the police apparently didn't matter what security they had on them they still got stolen.
      We had our house broken into while we were sleeping so they could steal the keys to my landladys new Scirocco, they took the keys to my Audi as well but left the car, still cost the insurance a grand to sort out new locks and keys on it though so in a way its better for you if the vans are easier to break into as long as you accept the extra cost after purchase of improving the security yourself.

      Hi Sam, it's best to get in touch with Charlotte via our website or on 01323 638999 and she will talk you through the options. This is our recommended package www.sussexinstallations.co.uk/products/cat-van-security-packages/sussex-installations-for2p-1s-rb-ford-custom-transit-custom-transit-custom-2013-on.html - you need to have the factory alarm to have this package and the vehicle in this video also had cab door deadlocks and an OBD port protector which is not included in that package (but they are all priced on the website). The packages are different for different model vans and customer requirements vary too, so no one solution fits all!!

    That mechanical door switch doesn't seem like it would last for the duration of the vehicle? I fitted magnetic switches (inductive, no physical contact/touch) to mine, since doors when closing will typically exert quite a decent knock on a mechanical switch.

      Highlighted comment
      I share your reservations but it does seem like a beefy switch and I am sure they would not be fitting it if they had callbacks. That said I would be tempted toward the magnet except for the fact that the van is metal and you can cheat a magnetic switch with a magnet.

    • @Nicoleise
      @Nicoleise 6 лет назад

      Skill Builder - Yes and no. You can in theory fool a magnet switch using a magnet, but it requires the correct polarization and must be applied in the correct direction without ever altering the state of the switch.
      The magnet switches I used are used in home and commercial alarm systems. If they were realistically defeatable, I'm sure their utilization would be much less.
      The vehicle being metal doesn't appear to impact operability. I've used them for more than three years on my current vehicle without even a hint of issues.

    You would think at this point the police would be running sting operation where the van is bait and is full of police waiting for thrives to break in, my bosses van was parked round the corner from our job for 5 mins only to come back to find the doors lying wide open, lucky it was already empty, but in broad daylight they could actually do that says a lot about how they’re not even worried about getting caught

      Yes, you are right and I have just read the news story on their website. The supplier has stopped because they had a high number of locks jamming. Apparently, the cold weather froze people out of their vans and if they are emergency plumbers that is not funny.
      Such a shame because I have one on my rear door and I will be squirting it regularly. Hopefully the modified version will solve the problem but, for now, the alternative is a long throw bolt

    There is a double glazing company behind my workshop,all their vans ,transits,Citroens,Renaults and fiats had high security locks fitted with cover plates etc.after repeated raids,, They were parked in a lit locked yard with cctv.Every van was opened in seconds they just used cordlesses with 4 inch core cutters ,pulled out the barrel complete with 4 inches of steel and operated the lock lever that way,3 of them took just under eighteen minutes to rob about 25 vans,their new transit only fleet have side loading doors with glass fitted, the vans are emptied daily and remain unlocked in the yard. If they want in they will get in and they do regardless. my view is that if you have high security locks the wrong sort of people know it's for a reason.they don't care about damage to the vehicle while yanking locks out,defeating high security locks results in far more panel damage than with standard locks.
