I’m 38 and just now getting into skating and I have to say out of all the tutorial videos and trick videos out there VL videos are the best. He describes how to do the tricks clearly, he gives good pointers for beginners like me, and isn’t loud and obnoxious as a means to just get attention. I also have to say as a beginner the couple spoof beginner videos where he was using a hatchet to cut his grip tape or spreading peanut butter on the board made me bust out laughing. Great work brother and thank you so much for not only providing a great knowledge base but also supporting those of us who are straight up beginners.

Got into skating a couple years back, and I still remember watching your "easy beginner tricks" videos with all my friends before going out. Thanks for all the help over the years!
For me the shoelace belt had a different function when I was growing up. When I was skating in middle/high school (2008-2014), lots of us were wearing studded belts and seatbelt belts. If we bailed, it really hurt your waist if you landed on the belt, ESPECIALLY if you wore a seatbelt belt and fell forward onto the buckle. Wearing a shoelace as a belt was a way to not hurt ourselves as badly since all of us had these bulky belts at the time.
That was the same for me in late 2017. I watched a lot of videos.. Then I bought a setup and got back into it after a twenty year hiatus. Best decision of my life so far!
I’m glad he’s back! I got a skateboard last year and watched almost all of his beginner videos, and I was sad he stopped posting and I’m supper happy he’s back!!
A really usefull lifehack to fic razortail os to put a couple cotas of wood glue over the razortail to essentially fix the issue of loosing pop. This will wear off wuickly however so you jave to reapply thw glue often
Hey bro, remember watching your videos all the time when I was younger. Then I saw you commenting on DGD songs! It was very fun to see another fellow skater and DGD fan!
for the tail/nose distinction thing i feel that oil-based felt pens help so much and making art just adds another layer to making skateboarding personal even if youre not good at art like I am you can copy easy logos - just make the art so that its easy to tell which side is the nose or tail
1. Holding onto things whilst learning tricks 2. Mark your trucks - which truck is your front and back 3. Mark your nose or tail 4. Wax your wheel wells - stops wheelbite 5. Use deodorant as wax 6. Countersink your hardware - make sure your bolts are flush with the board 7. Use your shoelaces as a belt 8. Invert your shoelaces - 6:12
I learned kick flips by getting punched in the arm, hard, by my friend Matt every time I didn't land it. It took 7 tries. I hope your ollies are less painful and just as rewarding :)
I actually really like the wheel well tip, I’ve been really needing a tip like that. My way to get my bolts in the board has been just keep tightening until they get all the way in but that causes really bad pressure cracks
Love your videos, can we please get a video on some weird/creative tricks? Always looking for fun ones to learn but never come across any I haven’t seen already
Another cool tip my dad taught me from his skating days , you can glue on some extra material onto the side of your shoe to make it last longer, I even used a bicycle tube the one time😂✌
For countersinking hardware, you can also use a screwdriver to hold the screw, and then use a wrench to torque the bolt higher on the screw, pushing the screw into the grip tape.
To help counter sink my bolts, I’ve started mounting my trucks quickly before I put the grip tape on, just to let the screw heads make the intention in the deck. Then I remove them and put the grip on like normal. Makes it easier to clean out the grip tape with the utility knife too.
The biggest thing that blew my mind is just how important bushings are. I always just used the ones that came with the trucks. I prefer super stiff trucks, so I'd have to tighten the vrap out of them, making the board steer kinda funny. For me it's easier to land tricks with stiff trucks. So I bought the stiffest bushings I could find. Vast improvement in how many tricks I could actually roll away from (because if you don't land and roll away, it don't count 😋.)
One I'd recommend is similar to the railing one, using a sort of tether, in my case, a tire tube, to wrap around the bottom side of the board to bring it with you while you learn getting in the air/grinds.
I didn't know how bad I missed the background music.

If you dont have colored screws to see which is the nose/tail. So all black screws, just use nailpolish and paint the screws, works like a charm.

I mostly use the shoelace belt because it's "cutting in" less than a conventional belt when u kneel down for jumps, so there's also that.
