"As we gaze off at the distance through the trees in my back yard I can feel that restless yearning of those geese as off they roam Then trade that for a warm bed and a place I can call home" It doesn't get better than that. I feel it every Autumn.
The tears come back listening to this magnificent song. It truly is a painting with words. Gordon was without a peer. How do you reconcile the death of someone who spoke to your soul?
The DVD of this concert is so good. It is sad that many people only know Gordon by the songs that were his commercial radio hits. Great songs by any measure. I was one of those until about 1994. A cousin was a real Gordon fan and I heard so many songs that were stunning. "Mother of a Miners Child". "Sit Down Young stranger". "The Circle is Small". "Did She Mention My Name". There are a couple dozen other songs just as good. I have 4 disc boxed set in my CD player and play it over and over. Thank you Gordon!
I love this man's music, and extension his soul... His music has travelled with me from my first love in 1971... to its return in 2022 ... My H.S. BGF moved away as teens and we reconnected as late life friends last year only to find out she is severely vax injured ... And after decades of separation that initial common thread was of the music of Gordon remains. I was able to help my friend by connecting her to Doc Trozzi and others and now has a shot of living yet a bit longer despite the numerous pulmonary embolisms she has recently acquired due to the you know what... We still love our Gordon music together ... and are best friends once again during the autumn of our lives ...
Close your eyes and listen to his lyrics...you;ll be in the place hes singing about...he is one of the greatest troubadours to ever enter the music scene...
This great song has been climbing my Lightfoot’s Best Songs chart for a long time. It has reached “number 9 with a bullet” status. It goes up higher each time I hear it!
This my favorite out of all of Gordon's songs. I saw him perform this at the Calvin Theater (Northampton, Mass) a few years back, and it sent shivers down my spine. I remember backs in my early 20's, I'd throw one of his albums on my turntable, pull out my 6 string Ovation, crank up the volume and play along, somewhat pretending I was him. There is no 'pretend', ... there is no copying him. Gordon is a stand out that will always be. The best of the best!
Mesmerising! The rhythm starts up and just keeps on going, like a metronome all the way to the end. Simple but beautiful melody. And his voice is as good as ever. Fabulous.
Love you Gordon Lightfoot...both of my bros love you too...they play the guitar, and I am learning bass....your music is so appropriate for calming the soul. :)

This is such a beautiful song. You can actually see a mental picture of the thoughts he is conveying. He was the best balladeer that ever lived

You can't, sadly...you can just watch these videos and listen to the records and be thankful that we ever had him in the first place I guess...

Gordon has a way of nourishing ones soul. He is such a talent it's ridiculous to attempt to define . He has enhanced my life beyond measure. .

Ditto. I love him and have many favorite songs, but this one is my all-time favorite. He had me after the first two lines.
Saw him there too...I closed my eyes and I was back in high school...his voice is timeless
@@lindaporter8842 Thanks. I just wish he'd come back to Massachusetts. I'm going to be 69 and have been listening to him since I was 17.
So many great songs written by this man! He's right up there with the very best!

One of the greatest story tellers :)
Relatively recent song that's one of his best. Love this.
One of my many favorites, pretty much learned Travis picking from this, long ago! Thanks Gordon.
