For anyone interested in the guano question: if memory serves, I believe it's called guano because that is the native word used by indigenous people who would harvest bird faeces for agriculture. In I believe the 18th century Europeans discovered it and began harvesting it for the same reasons. The majority of it came from one island which only birds visited meaning that it was literally caked in bird faeces, a couple of feet deep. That said, guano was the first fertiliser that was mass produced.
