    Good job for training your boys to cleanup after meals and themselves in general. I am doing the same with my kids especially my one boy. I keep saying to him “because I don’t want your future wife to be mad at me and I want her to be happy with you” 😅 ~mandy

      Yes! Good for you. Lazy spouses are often the result of lazy childhoods. However, I hate listening to the grousing. Any tips for that?

      I have 5 sons and say something similar. "i don't want your future wife to blame me when you don't clean up after yourself." lol!

    Oh man our after routine is a squirrel show! 🤣 Granted my children are only 11.5, 9.5, 6, 4, yet, but we are working on it. My oldest assist some with dishwasher loading, my second oldest clears off and wipes the table, our son helps daddy clean the floor, and the youngest pushes in the chairs. Then the littles help pick up their toys in the living room (or their room right off the living room). Then instead of winding down we wind up. We set some music and they have a dance party. About 730 they get on PJs and brush teeth then whosever assigned day it is gets to pick a 20 min show then we have book reading time until lights out at 830-ish. I wish it would go as smooth as me writing it out! 😆

    You are SO right! Once you have a routine - it can be pretty much mindlessly followed! It is basically automatic for me at this point to make my bed right away in the morning. I laughed so hard at your comment about picking up all the things the kids 'said' they put away... ha ha! I can totally relate! Happy New Year!

    That was really helpful. I think I'm spending too much time putting my kids' toys away. I get tired of doing it, so sometimes i just leave the mess out. Thanks to you, I just started a toy basket so my family room can be clean while they are at school.

    We fell out of routine way back in October when I started testing for an autoimmune disease. Today (Jan 3) was our first day back into our homeschool/cleaning routine. It's been a bit bumpy, as expected. 😂 Thankfully there's still New Year's Eve leftovers so I don't have to cook supper. 😁

      Hey Stephanie, it takes a bit of time to get back into your schedule, but I bet it will be SO nice when it’s more established again. We can do it!

    Stay at home mom with a toddler and 7 month old. That schedule sounds so lovely!! 😁
    how do you avoid burn out? I started minimizing by declutter and reorganize our home 3 months ago. Minimizing projects, cleaning routines, keeping littles alive and entertained alone is a lot. Oh and I’m suppose to take care of myself and make time for my husband at some point too?! 🤣🤣 Some times it just gets overwhelming and I just stop for days and then I feel like I’m always behind trying to catch up.
    I have my own version of the Fly lady. I do a basic clean up, make the bed, dishes, laundry, wipe down kitchen, vacuum routine every day. My husband is a big help so it’s not just all me all the time but then I have a deep cleaning zone and a decluttering project I work on once or twice a week. I just get burned out on it sometimes 🤷🏼‍♀️😩

      You are busy! One thing you NEED to do is take some days off (sort of with little kids), but some days you just have to put your feet up, let the kids crawl around, and have cereal for dinner (ok Omlettes)

      I love hearing about your routine! I work 4 full days in a classroom and then a 5th day in-home or meetings with students and some tutoring sessions or schoolwork on weeknights. This is usually 45 or more hours per week. I'm going to say that I haven't been married to any one schedule, so I love hearing what works for others. Like you, I am up and clean sink, bed made, devotion time, shower, dress, and choose one big task...sometimes a whole room clean-up and other times a particular task. I am working through being more consistent with this. I have to do it all before I leave the house by 7:30am . Many of the tasks (especially on exhausting weeks) end up relegated to the weekend. We take turns with dinner, dishes, etc. I have let go of my original routine because it now just depends on who has energy left, isn't working that day, or who cooked dinner. I'm so proud of myself for being flexible because it used to be "my way or the highway". For laundry, each person does their own from beginning to end! :O I do about 2 loads per week. Over the years task assignment has changed as kids age and circumstances change. I would like to shore up a more consistent plan, however. I'm involved in a modified Flylady challenge this month and we will see if that set-up sticks. Most of ALL....decluttering is the essential component. for making my cleaning easier. I'm also entertaining other ideas from the book "The House that Cleans Itself" to make my home more conducive to quick cleaining.

    I'm slowly keeping up the habits of tidying and cleaning. I make my bed each day, put away laundry (it used to live on a chair nickname chairdrobe). Working slowly on all the cleaning habits and routines. My daughter will be in pre-school this year so I will have more time for these tasks for a routine with more alone time.

    Thank you so much for sharing! I can't wait to grab myself a tidy tote and have my family put their things away. That is the worst problem. They never seem to put things away after they use them. The thing just ends up right where they used it and in my way. Then I pick it up and put it in their area. Now, I can pick up the stuff and have a spot out of my sight for them to put their stuff away. Maybe this will help them put it away after they use it? We can hope!

    I always make up the bed. I can not get into a bed with wrinkled sheets. Being very OCD I have to clean a whole room before moving to another space so " dusting on Tuesday, mopping on Wednesday, etc..." doesn't work for me.

    I’m really struggling with the thought of incorporating daily deep clean items. But have realized 2 things today: those deep clean items are hard because historically in my home there have been too many disorganized items that are obstacles and need to be dealt with once and for all, and I might even get done with that this month after working on it hard the last few months. Second, I’ve never built in time for cleaning in my day ever before. It’s something I try to “catch up on” when Saturday hits. How much cleaning time do you guys expend each day? I work 40 hours and homeschool my daughter 5 days a week. I am so very overwhelmed. I also do groceries and dinner. Now that I’m nearing the end of a challenging declutter, I’m only just starting to think about how I’d work chores into my day and how much time they would take. Halp!

    • @MinimalistHome
      @MinimalistHome  2 года назад +2

      It’s those little rotating tasks that help with the deep cleaning. I tend to spend about 30 mins per day on housework

    • @ErinSobota
      @ErinSobota 2 года назад +1

      Omg, full time work PLUS homeschool? That's working two jobs. Maybe I'm not supposed to say this, but cut yourself a break! Your house is going to be a bit messier. But I do think minimizing your stuff will make things easier. Good luck to you.

      @@MinimalistHome thank you! It’s comforting that it can be done in just half an hour. I suspected that having clutter is what takes longer because I’m always moving things to properly clean on the weekends. So it’s encouraging to know when I’m done with the declutter that everything will be quicker. Very motivating to keep going!

    • @curiouskitteh8215

      @@ErinSobota thank you, I appreciate this so much. I’m realizing I accidentally did this to myself by keeping so many things around for a rainy day. My excess gets disorganized so easily, and much of it can’t be put away, no room. The lighter we get, the easier it will be. I need to keep in perspective that my situation is challenging and celebrate the little victories. I did the laundry room and hallway yesterday and some kitchen maintenance. Winning haha. Thank you for the encouragement!!
