tempted to stream on kick because the revenue there would help me not only improve the stream with upgrades but it would also help me survive with income outside of streaming. i don't work and i am struggling with problems that might soon hit me later this year. my mom has breast cancer and i'm also supporting and helping her through it. i live with my parents and she hasn't been able to work. i don't drive or own a car and really need to learn how to drive and get a car of my own so i can also work a side job and further support my mom. but all i ever done with my life is write trophy guides for video games for ps3/ps4/vita/psvr. i retired from that and made the switch from console gaming to pc to pursue a dream job in competitive apex legends as a future coach one day for a professional team. i'm still chasing that dream and i will make it a reality. But from the way Twitch treats people and their own streamers. Kick might overtake Twitch in the future real soon.
I normally stream on RUclips, but I have been playing around with twitch and kick lately. On Kich I usually have about 4 to 8 viewers as a new streamer to tbe platform, and if I stream on Twitch I will only have one viewer (my wife). Kick is a no-brainer for New streamers. @harris I downloaded the vertical plug in, but cannot get it to work for streamlabs obs. Is there a way to get it to work with streamlabs, or do I just need to use OBS Studio to use it?
I hope twitch gets their head together and keeps going strong. I believe it's the best place to be still even now, and that's just coming from someone that don't trust kick or anything to do with gambling. Twitch yes does have their flaws but I trust them and RUclips any day then these new platforms coming out. I mean look what happen to mixer? A platform I came from. I only trust the bigger guys now and I will always stay in the bigger spaces
Unfortunately Harris said on live he is not willing to create and run a streaming platform, though back then it was under different circumstances. I think nowadays it is way easier to compete: Copy Twitch, but make videos and clips browsable, like YT. Put effort into the Streamer Utility. And boom you will be the best platform for livestreamers. It is more about server cost though...
ehh just because he has a good analysis of the landscape doesnt mean he would be able to create a new platform and help it grow. I would support it but I dont think the answer is to just push ur favorite creator to make a new platform. there needs to be differentiation and obviously hundreds of millions-billions of dollars. in the end of the video he does offer a good solution for whoever decides to take it but the winner of the live stream platforms will be the one who manages to incorporate a mix of short form(tiktok like algorithm) with streaming. tiktok has a HUGE live stream audience but it still has a long way to go as the community aspect is essentially non existent
I find it very fascinatingly how you explained the filters because take that same analogy and apply it to music. Someone could discover their favorite artist by hearing a single song on the radio (short form) and now they might search for more and more music from the artist and start diving into their discography (long form), and they listen and listen so much so that they start to fall in love with that artist and now want to go to a concert (live streaming). It honestly just makes sense.
I agree with you. People will come over you doesn't matter which platform you will choose. Now people come for the vibe, not quantity of viewers. Especially with is comfortable place for users and I slightly believe that someone will change it to better part
I gotta say thanks man. I am in no way a wonderful editor, but after learning the basics of Davinci and Premiere I have started working as a Real Estate Cinematographer in my area. A lot of your videos surrounding camera information, editing tips, light, etc, they have all helped me earn a steady and healthy income, even though it wasn't from twitch. I am definitely not an incredible editor, but the skills needed to create content nowadays can transfer over to so many other jobs. That has become my focus in main source of income, and streaming has become much more enjoyable because the stress has been lifted. So thanks for doing what you do because I learned a lot from your stuff.
I went from a lifetime amount of views on my twitch of 2 million, to 10 million views a day on youtube. It's not only life changing, but when I DO stream, tons of people attend and show their love.
Hey Harris! I had an interesting experience with short to live form content. So recently (it was probably months ago idk) youtube added the feature to show when you are live while scrolling through shorts. I had an idea to upload a short 5 minutes after I go live to see if that would bring any traction. Turns out it does! I went from averaging 4 viewers to 20-30 in my recent streams. While I understand it may not be huge numbers, it is massive for me! So I think with youtube there is a cross over with short to live content.
Imagine, it would be the top streaming platform overnight. Wouldn't surprise me if he has been trying to do this for years but can't say anything yet lol.
Solid advice, I appreciate your thoughts on it! I definitely agree with focusing on creating content (shorts etc, RUclips videos) vs just streaming, you've mentioned that in the past and it's so true.
I've done Kick and Twitch as a small creator and it was interesting. It's not a direct comparison because I streamed different categories, but I think Kick has potential.
I agree with your take on this. I started backing off streaming full time on Twitch to make shorts, reels, and stream shorter streams on yt about a year ago. I'm starting to see diversity in my income and different opportunities I would have never had if I had kept streaming 40 plus hours a week to my modestly sized (epicly wonderful) community. I still stream on Twitch, I just made room for the other stuff.
I gave up streaming after 3 years because it just wasn’t fulfilling anymore, but I’m really enjoying focusing on Shorts now, thanks in part to that amazing Vertical plug-in!
Twitch (and live streaming in general) will likely never see the kind of gangbuster statistics tech companies took for granted during the pandemic. Focus on short content, don't quit your day job.
Honestly, I kind of think streaming is more or less dead. It's not "cool" like it used to be and now shorts are all of the rage. That and people don't want to spend hours watching someone engage in banal chatter with random people in chat.
@@MistyKathrine you're absolutely right, Twitch and its millions of hours of Minecraft being played mostly by delusional men and somewhat attractive women sitting in jacuzzis breathing into microphones who think they've discovered a "Zero Barrier to Entry" gold mine, just doesn't seem like a worthwhile investment.
@@MistyKathrine Well, I don't know exactly on what type of content you watching. Streaming in the Gaming Scene will probably continously grow...no matter what. Since Streaming generally was mainly successful as it aimed for gamers / pro player to stream their gameplay live. Just because Just chatting category caught on one of the most popular categories of streaming doesn't mean that it is the only pure content. Gaming content is splitted into dozens hundreds of games all together making up over 10 million viewers constantly...don't know why you think streaming is dead ? It is literally booming since 2015 and keeps stonking upwards. Every month new smaller stars appearing into the scene.... "streaming is more or less dead". I don't think so. Maybe your preferred content is more or less dead.
I just wanna say I love your energy man. In every video it’s so positive. I hope life gives you an abnormal amount of good times over bad because the man I see in these videos deserves it. Stay happy brother 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Great video! Really pinned the nail there with all the details! I am NEVER leaving Twitch! It has been my second home since living at home with my mom! And now, almost 30 years old.. never leaving Twitch! It's not about the money.. it's about the memories and great community that has been built!
i LOVE the honesty here. I really like that you mentioned that live streaming is honestly a dead end if youre not genuinley CREATING content. AND I STRONGLY Agree that its Shorts To Long Format To Live Streams I think any aspiring creator should really focus on Creating video content, Shorts and long format videos that go hand in hand. Livestreaming should never be a CORE focus in my opinion unless you are creating your shorts and long format videos whilst live. Anyways, I will be filling many holes this year.
RUclips really took a big swing, struck out and didn't come back to the plate. Also, I hate Shorts. I hate that they are pushing it so hard. There is already a TikTok now every SINGLE social media platform is trying to replicate what TikTOk did. IG should go back to pictures and RUclips should go back to what it does best.
Sucks but this the generation we live in for all of us who wanna be content creators and streamers. Join and manage uncontrollable trends or get left behind 😞
@@dubayew I guess so but Shorts pays like garbage. Besides, is everyone if doing the same trend, it means only one of them will likely win. I get that Shorts growth on YT is some big number but no kid I know uses it. They use TikTok. Adults I know are on IG.
This is the first video I've watched where I grabbed a notepad and took notes near the end of it, and watched it again. Got a lot to think about on so much of this for sure. Appreciate the video Harris!
I know it's tempting to want to feel a bit lost or scared right now as a streamer/creator, but it's like what Harris said, right now is scary but also a time of opportunity. Go take chances, get creative, learn and create something new while all this is happening and you may just find that this was the exact moment you decided to look forward, for your success and next chapter as a content creator! 🤘🍻
God I miss Mixer so much. They weren't perfect, but I felt safe there. Kick had me thinking and I joined the Discord just to get a feel for the vibe. But it's kinda feeling like Kick is very "We're anti-twitch! look we have a hot tub/bikini channel!" I just want to stream and have a good time and not be robbed if I "make it". Times like this that i wish I had the know-how and funds to create a better platform for streamers. Thank you so much for being clear, concise, honest, and positive.
I had the same experience checking Kick out. The Discord is the hub of updates and community and it's a big pile of people dunking on Twitch and hyping each other up that They're Gonna Make It. Kick doesn't seem to have viewers that come there for fun to watch creators, Kick just has creators that have been dazzled by the favorable split and are hustle-hustle-hustling to get that bag... at the exclusion of just making some good content. The quality-o-meter on Kick is in the sewers.
5:03 Listening to these words about Emmett while previously listening to the "My First Million" Podcast about Emmett (I Sold Twitch 9 Years Ago For $1B… What I’m Doing Now) makes me chuckle at how perspectives can be different (for any sort of reason). Emmett ran the company for ~16 years. It was not "too big for him", he made it big and now retired. Shaan Puri who is interviewing him worked with him and basically said that he is the "real deal" when it comes to business and had a super sharp mind. Listening to your section makes it look like he was some creator dude who doesn't know how to file his taxes, haha. I am not judging here, you can have your information from somewhere else where it is portrayed like that but it is just funny to see both sides displayed.
Sounds like Senpai streaming platform needs to be a thing. Not only do you get the big picture, but you understand creators needs and the importance of helping them succeed.
I gotta admit, Ive been following Harris Heller for quite some time now and he always gets it right. And I like the quality sound of his voice in the videos, its smooth, soothing, really rare finding that quality in another contents creator. Keep it up Heller!
I got contacted by Kick to multi stream to their platform with the promise of being promoted on their home page. Obviously I was intrigued because I heard a lot about the 95/5 revenue split. I went to check out the website and the top 3 streams were Gambling and literal pornographic material. This was on their homepage with thousands of viewers. Now me myself being 17, aka still a minor and knowing that my main audience is between 13 and 16, I didn't want my face to be featured next to a stream that includes porn, nor did I want to expose my audience to that. The 95/5 split and the 'promoting on the homepage' seems nice, but to me it's not worth it. I don't want to be associated with a platform that promotes gambling and has no moderation in place to prevent previously mentioned stuff from being livestreamed. Sure Twitch is not a good place to be right now, I can see it reflected in my numbers, but I would say it's still the best of the worst.
honestly i go on kick all the time to watch a few smaller content creators who did make the switch and i can say after consistently using kick for 2 months I've never seen porn or gambling on the homepage that just doesn't happen both gambling and adult content have thier own tabs kinda like how the hot tub section is on twitch
@Jack Big I'm really not. The video was about Kick, and the main question asked by Harris in the comments was Kick or Twitch so I just answered the question with my personal experience with Kick, which happened to not be very pleasant. If you don't like the comment you're free to not read it
@@itsJosii Good to hear that it's gotten less. I checked out the website about 1,5 months ago and I did see a stream with some innapropriate content in the thumbnail back then. Hope they're actively working on moderation
i agree, and its why im more bullish on tiktok and yt simply because you can do that on the platform. while yt hasnt shown any recent live stream movement the new ceo mentions it a lot when he talks to creators.
Kick has announced upcoming features different to Twitch: - "kicks" (like bits), but you can give them to viewers and mods too. - A unique way to get discovered Also, for me only 1/3 of the "featured streams" on my Kick homepage are gambling. I could be a minorty but they don't appear to be pushing it down our throats (yet). When I view from incognito mode I actually have to scroll quite far down to get to "Recommended Gambling Channels".
Thank you for always giving such a good insight on the current space and giving content creator up and comers some hope and that it isn't all for nothing if you work hard enough.
Thanks for the stuff about Kick. It's been bothering me how many people I know are moving across and are like IT'S GREAT. It's such a shame. I had a bad feeling about them from the start and its just gotten worse the more I see. Thank you for shining a light.
These are my favorite videos of yours. I do wish you would have mentioned the US trying to ban TikTok because I think that will have a bearing on what you're saying. When I talk to fellow streamers/content creators, I've been saying for MONTHS that streaming shouldn't be someone's "bread and butter." So thank you for confirming that As for the platforms (TikTok aside), I'm interested to see how the looming recession shapes the landscape. It already seems like Amazon is doing Amazon things and laying people off. Will this be what makes Daddy Bezos shut down Twitch? Will he site the Recession as his reasons? I'm still optimistic about RUclips, only because it's got a background for content creation, and it's backed by Google. Yes, the Recession is going to hit them, but unlike Twitch/Amazon, Google won't pull the plug in the name of greed.
You are a wise man Harris Heller. Very appreciative of the insight and the efforts towards shedding light on the current flow of the industry. Super helpful, you're a gem. Best of success to you also my man. 💪
I always appreciate your videos as someone who always wanted to get into streaming, but never did due to lack of self confidence. I've watched your videos and learned a lot. Now as I am getting into computer courses. For the past few years I've dabbled with the thought of creating a new website to compete with youtube and twitch. Something that takes the best of both worlds. Obviously that is easier said than done. I have a question and would love to see a video on it. If you could create the next big website. What would you want that makes it fair for both website creators and content creators to make everyone the most money possible?
@@HiddenLeaf-8888 I think there's something against streaming on all platforms now. Specifically if you are a partnered streamer for one site or the other. Not sure if that is totally accurate.
Everybody (including me) would love it if Senpai Streaming were a thing, but I can only imagine how much money and planning it would need in order hit the ground in such a way that it could cover its own costs, let alone be profitable. Maybe one day Senpai will be big enough to tackle the problem.
THANK YOU HARRIS! This is exactly what I needed! I don't make hardly any money on Twitch (maybe $50 every 4 months). For me, streaming has become a place to build relationships with people who enjoy what I do and the content I create. Those relationships will hopefully turn into people sharing my content to others and engaging further themselves. Now to get consistent with content!
Thank you for this. 95% of nothing is nothing which is what creators will get once Kick gets hit with multiple law suits for copyright breeches. Twitch might be taking money out your pocket, but sometimes it’s better the devil you know.
People have been saying that about Kick since it was released and nothing has happened yet. I doubt any lawsuits will come. Kick is the talk of the town and getting a ton of publicity. And a lot of new streamers are doing very well on the site. Twitch has no discoverability to grow, & Will ban people without telling you the reason, & only prioritize big streamers. New streamers are better off trying Kick.
There are couple scenarios 1. Twitch will need to do something to not ruin streaming business and will start doing it OR 2. Some new startup company will do another smart branded streaming platform which one will be win for the company and streamers with developed ideas, which one was mentioned in older Senpai videos But also seems Twitch management really does not know how to develope this business and actually you can stream only for fun, what I usually do, because I have full time job and I come to stream only for people who comes to chat
I just joined Kick a few days ago and started streaming on both Kick and Twitch since idk which one i want to stick with but i do actually not seeing Kick lasting since it IS a Twitch clone, its o ly a matter of time before it somehow crashes and burns too
In regards to discovering short form content leading to discovering the creators streams from there. That's actually how I discovered from streamers recently(like Extra Emily). I was recommended their clips channel which had links to their main RUclips and Twitch channels and started subbing(RUclips) and following(Twitch) from there. So even from a viewer perspective short form video is great for discovering new streamers. Great advice on that for sure 😄
As much as we hate companies like YT and Twitch for streaming companies, we have to be real about it.. they have been the most successful in terms of streaming companies. YT not so much because they have other forms. But Twitch definitely. In the past 20 odd years, there have been so many streaming sites that started and got bought out. I remember being a viewer in blogTV. It was actually pretty fun to be in it. The UI was definitely very lackluster but it was also up around 2004-2009. At least that's when I was watching on it. But I agree with what you said, streaming isn't a lot of creators main source of revenue. It is how they might have gotten more well known. I've heard it from many of their streams before, they all have other ways of making money. Also, love the StreamBeats stuff you are creating. Always a listener! And thank you so much for the great tunes and collabs!
Lover your takes on these things. What is interesting about Kick is they expect to be nothing but a money pit upfront and they apparently have a plan but it's not very clear. They are pulling the Mixer card and trying to throw out all these contracts to others to pull further interest. Then as you said, pulling the casino advertising...they flash it all over Twitter or at least have streamers show their payouts from subs to further entice others. It will be interesting, especially if they land any sort of footing with the right big streamers to get audiences. What I am curious about is what their plan is for rocket growth...it's not very moderated now...imagine if they gained 10x userbase in a very short time. Curious on their tech stack too because it costs Twitch boat loads of money to keep running. On the note you stated about them being a copy of Twitch, their streamer tools are nearly non-existent and nothing interacts with like StreamElements or StreamLabs as they don't have a public API a this time either. One of the gotcha's here is people only see money and want to get rich quick with no plan. Thanks for the video, been waiting for the follow-up from your last video.
Heya. I've been looking into your stuff because I am looking into getting a capture card (thats how I started). But, I just wanted to say I appreciate your comments on gambling. I could tell you were being real and vulnerable and I appreciate it. In fact, in several of the videos I have seen from you tonight you have exhibited that quality and its always refreshing. So, thanks. I appreciate you.
I've been wrestling with the idea of switching to Kick, as it's pretty much all I see anybody doing and/or talking about these days. It's undeniable that a 95/5 split, if sustained, would take some massive pressure off so many creators, including myself. But, as someone who made the switch to D-live and reached Global Partner there (the highest form of partner on the platform), I'm more than hesitant after going through what became of that platform. You said so many things, Harris, that I have been thinking as I watch swaths of people switch over. Thank you for validating what I've been feeling and thinking.
5 years of Harris: yr 1: twitch is dying make videos instead yr 2: twitch is dying go to mixer yr 3: twitch is dying go to youtube streaming yr 4: well twitch isnt dying... yet, but it will so someone should make a new platform yr 5: all streaming platforms are dying make short form... not that you're wrong Harris, but it really sucks that it inevitably ended up this way, the reality is people are watching longform because they already do. i cant imagine the numbers are high for people who watched a random short in their tiktok or reels feed and then immediately went to their long form (not even their stream) if you can prove otherwise i would love to see that stat because i feel like most people scrolling shorts are doing ONLY that.
Gambling isn't legal theft. People have a choice on whether or not to gamble. Taxation is theft. Otherwise, Thanks for the great info Harris! It seems like everywhere is a dumpster fire. I started streaming here on YT to engage with my viewers outside of my videos. Not sure where would be better.
14/3/2023 - Kick Beta - Fixed issue where sending multiple emotes was prompting special character limits in chat - Removed share icon from chat menu - Added additional security around chat messages - Removed clip icon from VODs to avoid confusion (Coming soon) See something we should fix? #🐛・bug-reports Have a suggestion? #📝・suggestions Again, just some more small updates as we continue to work on much much larger picture items in the background 😎
Knowledgeable people can research, and seek out advice all over the internet. But it doesn't get more authentic than Harris. Love seeing you succeed. As always, thanks for the help!!
dan is just the mouthpiece, in reality there a 20 plus man team under him and he is the voice front man. this have been planed all along, in line with what the market do, cost , and what way it swings in line with Amazon views and upper management.
Every time I go over to Kick & try to find something, the streams barely have viewers. I keep hearing people talking about Kick & how people are flocking there but I'm not seeing it. That's not to say it wont blow up but as of right now Its pretty dead on Kick. And as far as TikTok goes, I don't want anything that has to do with Communist China.
I haven’t liked twitch for a long time. So I quit streaming, Facebook was never really an option, and RUclips doesn’t seem like they’re pushing their streaming services. (I use it the most and I haven’t had a live stream recommended to me once.) So twitch is the best option, but everything that comes out from twitch about bans that are overzealous, the monetary split, just seems like they don’t want any more streamers let alone their own. But I stopped liking twitch when someone got banned in the middle of a call of duty game because someone on their team said the n word. Wasn’t the streamer, but they still got banned.
You make great valid points. But I can’t help but feel that Kick just might be the true competitor to Twitch more than I have ever felt about RUclips Gaming. RUclips makes a bunch of extra steps just to find the live stream gaming area on their site.
Yea I agree, I was all in on live streaming. RUclips pushed it for a time. Then made a hard turn at RUclips shorts. And to be honest, it’s far better than live-streaming. More people see and share them. My business is doing well from them. And I’m seeing so many questions I haven’t seen in years because of the broad audience I can hit now.
I was literally going to go back to streaming till I watched this and now im going to turn my attention to tiktoks and shorts and focus my attention there. Thank you for the video on the streaming platforms 😊
Thank you for telling me what Kick was. I just heard about someone streaming there and when I heard there was a 95/5 split I knew there had to be more going on behind the scenes.
I don’t care about the money… I guess it all depends on your overall motive. If I’m streaming on kick (which isn’t ever going to be my primary) as long as I’m providing content for my audience what does gambling has to do w the creator itself, who isn’t into the whole gambling scene at all? About the copy and paste w twitch and the TOS. I’m hoping it’s a marketing strategy to help people w an easy transition. I can’t see this platform out here w no TOS very long but hey, that’s my theory only time will tell! Me personally I just want to use the platform to provide my audience w different content outside of my “main content” . Great video btw!
Loved this video dude! I needed the talk about the current Kick and Twitch thing. My thought for you: If you partnered with or had your own streaming service, people would love that. Your ethics and heart seem genuine to a lot of people. "Judge a man by the size of his heart." I understand that working on a streaming service may not be what you want right now, so I won't hold my breath. But hey!... I just want to throw that thought at you. Wishing happy living to you brotha!
i'm so sad about the fact that no one else came to the idea of making a website like twitch that's somewhat fair and good managed and not shit like twitch, youtube or kick
I'm so glad I had this mindset already going into content creating focusing primarily on long form videos and streaming as kind of a bonus way to connect with my audience. Hopefully in the years to come it gets better for streaming and specifically creators who focus on streaming
I said it last year and I'll say it again. We'll eventually see twitch rolled into Amazon and that's where we'll stream under the Amazon Gaming section.
every time I see a short with gameplay and a face cam I just can't watch it.. seen it a million times over and over again, please people start thinking OUTSIDE the box!!
Great advise, this is pretty much what I am doing now on RUclips. I focus mainly on videos which are doing well and I stream 2 times a week on RUclips for 3 to 4 hours as a thank you for the support on the videos etc
I'm not even close to being monetized on RUclips, I have been affiliated on Twitch for over 4 years now.... Personally I enjoy RUclips streaming much more then I ever have on twitch, even if I'm not making money anymore. I rather stream somewhere I am happy on than feeling like its a chore to play the newest and hottest game. RUclips I feel has replay-ability vs other streaming sites, Tiktok is also doing that for my friend. I'll stick with what makes me happy, I already have a job that pays me well so I can do this as a hobby. 👌
My thoughts with Twitch today, I haven't decided to go back to Twitch with how unfair it has been with streamers that wanted to have monetization for their content. Actually, I'm glad that Twitch did what they did. Because of this, I have learned to adapt to editing and improve connection to audiences even more. With hearing about kick, I'm honestly thinking about switching to kick for streaming. I love playing competitive multiplayer games and that would be good to do in the free time after working on editing. I might actually stream Project Zomboid there.
Thoughts on Kick vs Twitch? That's the open question here. Hit me.
Hope kick displaces twitch

Yea 0 discoverability on that trash platform. Hot garbage company deserves everything going on with them.
How did you do that ? I barely get 20-30 views when I stream on YT. Trying to monetize my channel so I can quit my bs job.
@@eMillion100 He had a pre-existing 1 million+ subs so obviously he’s gonna get a lot more views by moving strictly to RUclips
I see that a lot im thinking of moving over to RUclips
Harris, you need to start a streaming platform and make it the way it should be made. You would have a lot of streamers moving over to you.
💀
he just got done saying how much money these companys lose .💀💀
The problem is most streamers don't have significant numbers of viewers and little/no income whereas the hosting costs are high whatever.
Imagine, it would be the top streaming platform overnight. Wouldn't surprise me if he has been trying to do this for years but can't say anything yet lol.
You didn’t listen what he said? It is expensive
@@uzayida It's literally on the decline.
@@MistyKathrine it's not. It's up 164% since 2018.
AND I STRONGLY Agree that its
Shorts To Long Format To Live Streams
I think any aspiring creator should really focus on Creating video content, Shorts and long format videos that go hand in hand. Livestreaming should never be a CORE focus in my opinion unless you are creating your shorts and long format videos whilst live. Anyways, I will be filling many holes this year.
Omg Spicy cow ❤
Sponsor of the video Elgato. Recording sponsor video with a shotgun mic. Main video logitech mic. 😂😂
Thanks mate. This clarified a lot for me. Asked on a Twitch stream why people are moving to Kick and all the responses were about the profit split.
People are complaining about the 50-50 split on Twitch, yet TikTok is taking 70% of the livestream earnings 😢
Streamers should always choose what provides them with the best opportunities and compensation, and right now, that’s Kick.
Amen brother. Amen.
Freedom of speech is pretty cool too.
Kick has announced upcoming features different to Twitch:
- "kicks" (like bits), but you can give them to viewers and mods too.
- A unique way to get discovered
Also, for me only 1/3 of the "featured streams" on my Kick homepage are gambling. I could be a minorty but they don't appear to be pushing it down our throats (yet). When I view from incognito mode I actually have to scroll quite far down to get to "Recommended Gambling Channels".
All good points and well thought out commentary on these platforms.
Thank you for always giving such a good insight on the current space and giving content creator up and comers some hope and that it isn't all for nothing if you work hard enough.
I hate to be that guy, but it's insight. Incite would mean he's encouraging us to be violent... I mean... maybe Harris is. 😂
@@MythionVR What?
@@Chrisssaywatt You used the word 'incite' instead of 'insight'.
Twitch probably owns kick behind the scenes.
Always appreciate your straightforward & honest insights. Putting these into action. Much ❤🤘
Well, a 95/5 split isn't a good thing by it self... I'll rather own 50% of Apple, than 95% of Johns Ketchup Café (never heard of it?... exactly).
Thanks for the stuff about Kick. It's been bothering me how many people I know are moving across and are like IT'S GREAT.
It's such a shame. I had a bad feeling about them from the start and its just gotten worse the more I see. Thank you for shining a light.
My God, to speak against streaming being a content creator focused on streaming. Props to you man, thanks for being so genuine
These are my favorite videos of yours. I do wish you would have mentioned the US trying to ban TikTok because I think that will have a bearing on what you're saying. When I talk to fellow streamers/content creators, I've been saying for MONTHS that streaming shouldn't be someone's "bread and butter." So thank you for confirming that
As for the platforms (TikTok aside), I'm interested to see how the looming recession shapes the landscape.
The benefits of being partnered on twitch is still too good to pass up. But you still have to know how to actually make use of its benefits
You are a wise man Harris Heller. Very appreciative of the insight and the efforts towards shedding light on the current flow of the industry. Super helpful, you're a gem. Best of success to you also my man. 💪
It's so funny he puts this up today. I just got reminded kick exists like last week and have streamed there a few days lol
What would you want that makes it fair for both website creators and content creators to make everyone the most money possible?
im confused why not just stream on all platforms at the same time ????
@@HiddenLeaf-8888 I think there's something against streaming on all platforms now. Specifically if you are a partnered streamer for one site or the other. Not sure if that is totally accurate.
just wanted to pop in & say I absolutely LOVE the Vertical Plugin you dropped. Thank you x1,000,000 it's a great tool
Sobering and wise. Sharing this to all my streaming friends. Thanks as always, Harris!
There are couple scenarios
1. Twitch will need to do something to not ruin streaming business and will start doing it OR
2. Some new startup company will do another smart branded streaming platform which one will be win for the company and streamers with developed ideas, which one was mentioned in older Senpai videos
But also seems Twitch management really does not know how to develope this business and actually you can stream only for fun, what I usually do, because I have full time job and I come to stream only for people who comes to chat
AND after the 2nd option succeed, Twitch Will offer 5 Tímes the price for IT. :/
AND they Will accept it....
People just poeple
As someone who has been deploying this strategy for years, I can confirm the strategy proposed in this video works.
I just joined Kick a few days ago and started streaming on both Kick and Twitch since idk which one i want to stick with but i do actually not seeing Kick lasting since it IS a Twitch clone, its o ly a matter of time before it somehow crashes and burns too
It reminds me of trovo.
Brave to stand up against people getting addicted to gambling. Thank you for that.
People dont want to go to RUclips because RUclips rewards creators who work hard... people want to be rewarded for not working hard
True and this is why twitch and all these other streaming platforms are eventually gonna die out in the long run 🤣
Is it me or does it look like Harris is holding a cup of coffee instead of a mic??? 😂😂😂😂😂
Ngl, for someone who's been at this for a long time, I needed to hear this. Thank you for the motivation lol
Looking forward to the launch of Senpai Streaming 😉
Love you too senpai. I have been having difficulties with streaming as of late, but those last words of yours, gave me hope. Never give up.
5 years of Harris:
yr 1: twitch is dying make videos instead
yr 2: twitch is dying go to mixer
yr 3: twitch is dying go to youtube streaming
yr 4: well twitch isnt dying... yet, but it will so someone should make a new platform
yr 5: all streaming platforms are dying make short form...
not that you're wrong Harris, but it really sucks that it inevitably ended up this way, the reality is people are watching longform because they already do. i cant imagine the numbers are high for people who watched a random short in their tiktok or reels feed and then immediately went to their long form (not even their stream) if you can prove otherwise i would love to see that stat because i feel like most people scrolling shorts are doing ONLY that.

The honesty and views are so refreshing. Thanks for speaking the truth as always.
dan is just the mouthpiece, in reality there a 20 plus man team under him and he is the voice front man. this have been planed all along, in line with what the market do, cost , and what way it swings in line with Amazon views and upper management.
Such a great video, thank you from France ! 🔵⚪🔴
The pattern short content -> long content -> livestreaming is so obvious once you said it 🤯
Every time I go over to Kick & try to find something, the streams barely have viewers.
Havent gotten to one of these in a while, thanks for teaching me literally everything I know about OBS/Streaming!!
You make great valid points. But I can’t help but feel that Kick just might be the true competitor to Twitch more than I have ever felt about RUclips Gaming. RUclips makes a bunch of extra steps just to find the live stream gaming area on their site.
That last section where you said 'from short form to long form to live stream' and it felt like you were telling the Drew Gooden story.
I don’t care about the money…
I guess it all depends on your overall motive.
Long time viewer. This video is on point! Thank you Harris!
Dude, you know your shit. ive been a fan since 2018, keep being you mate
i'm so sad about the fact that no one else came to the idea of making a website like twitch that's somewhat fair and good managed and not shit like twitch, youtube or kick
"Gambling is theft. Legal theft."
Oh boy, who is going to tell him about taxes?
I'm so glad I had this mindset already going into content creating focusing primarily on long form videos and streaming as kind of a bonus way to connect with my audience. Hopefully in the years to come it gets better for streaming and specifically creators who focus on streaming
Your vertical plugin is effing amazing! Thank you! Also thank you for this video.
I said it last year and I'll say it again. We'll eventually see twitch rolled into Amazon and that's where we'll stream under the Amazon Gaming section.
have always been a huge fan of filling holes, so Im excited at the oppurtunity to finally maybe be recogized for it
You mention focus on TikTok. But TikTok makes $0 in Canada and is also becoming somewhat barred/banned.
That chair you're sitting in costs $2,000 and I just can't even wrap my head around that fully
So beyond accurate. Thank you for this
Hey, RUclips got that option to stream with AV1 codec going for them. I'm excited about that.
every time I see a short with gameplay and a face cam I just can't watch it.. seen it a million times over and over again, please people start thinking OUTSIDE the box!!
That OBS vertical plugin absolutely transformed my workflow. I owe you a beer if I ever meet you in person!
He said something very important! “Building relationship” 🔥🤝🏽
I cherish this man's transparency, integrity, and honesty. Thank you for this video. I trust Harris.
Couldn't agree more! Very solid take!
So when does the Senpai streaming service start? (with baked in free to use music)
Our hubris with Mixer has come back to bite us.
Your videos really do make a huge difference, thank you for making this content.
