you solved my issue. Had multiple units, one would play back, others would not (at least proving the media and files were good). It was the record codec setting, THANKYOU SO MUCH!!!!!
John, one year later… When you insert an SD card the Hyperdeck searches for clips for selected file format with a video format closest to the default video format (video standard in LCD). When you change file format, Hyperdeck does the same thing. Companion has now an action to select a slot AND video format. DaVinci Resolve makes it easier nowadays to export videos which will playback at the Hyperdeck, including H.264 files.
Much appreciated! Was just getting ready to tackle this on my own when you uploaded this video. Will save me lots of hassle for sure. Looking forward to h2r v2 companion as well! Keep rocking my man.
Just curious how big of files are you experiencing with ProRes LT at 1080 50p? Didn't know what a worklfow with that would be if you had a fair amount of videos
Good stuff! For USA - you might note the difference as we use 59.94 or 30fps. I typically have recorded 59.94, Pro Res LT to extended time length recording. I love the hypedecks and they are so useful. I like the idea of bulk dropping into compressor to transcoder the files with settings. Good idea!
I really could have done with this video about 2 months ago...I didn't realise that the codec and resolution had to match what was set in the hyperdeck...but I figured all that out in the end....
Hello I have a problem with hyperdeck studio pro hd I do the editing in Davinci Resolve and when I export to the sdxc or ssd card it doesn't play back to me how can I solve it? I already tested it in prores and Dnxhd and it doesn't playback thanks
John, Tried an mp4 file from Powerpoint and one from DaVinci Resolve and it didn’t work. (Will try ProRes now). Would love to see in DaVinci if you export a file if it is compatible with the Hyperdeck. I also think that when recording PGM to USB out on the ATEM mini that Hyperdeck should be able to play it back
Doug, for those of us who do not use Mac's, but edit with Resolve, the DNxHD/HR is really the only option. You do have to be very specific about both the video encoding, and the audio encoding. I have good success with 1080p 220/185/175 10-bit for the video, and 24-bit depth for the audio. Always using the QuickTime encapsulation.
@@heretorecord It didn't work for me and it's really terrible. And this is already the second deck of the cat that works terribly. You can only reproduce what she recording herself.
I’m looking at getting a hyper deck plus and can’t find some crucial information. The use case is - I have animations that are split between two files (it would be a key/fill animation). I wish to be able to play the first file where upon completion it holds on the last frame. Then, I want to be able to play the second video that completes the animation - and that would fade so it doesn’t matter if it holds on the last frame. I wouldn’t want to drop any frames between animations. Is this behaviour possible with the hyperdeck? Hopefully you can help me out with an answer 🙏 - thanks in advance.
Dear My Blackmagic Design HyperDeck Studio One of my video files is not playing, the power went out while recording, how can I fix this? Plz help this video file is very inpatient
Using same settings with my HyperDeck Studio HD mini. Had some issues with newer firmware (8.0.2 & 8.0.3) where the HyperDeck freezes during reading from SDCard. I was able to get it running with 8.0.1
Do you know if you can get playback on the Hyperdeck to show how many seconds you have left on any given video file instead of the actual running time? When you’re doing a Livestream you typically want to know when you have to be ready again…
I want to be able to record my stream as well as playback premade content, is there a way to set it up to record to one SD card and pull content from the other?
my hyperdeck does not see my prores 4444 files but it sees the 422. any idea why? i can playback 422 files just fine. even if i place only the 4444 file in the sd it still does not show up.
I get a black screen whenever I playback via HDMI to my Atem Mini. The playback is triggered remotely and runs on my Hyperdeck Mini HD Plus, but there seems to be no signal from its HDMi Out-port
One to add: M1 Apple Silicon screws up Prores files. No matter where I export (premiere, compressor, davinci) the Hyperdeck stutters. Do the exact same export on Windows, works as usual.
Have you tried again lately? I pulled an old one of these out of a rack today, updated firmware, in premiere rendered out some prores LT 1080 24 files and they played back just fine.

I just found out that it doesn't like æ ø å characters for example here in norway, so if you have any special characters in the file name, it will not read it.
I've just bought one and what a deception... It is supposed to be reliable and broadcast, and finally so much downsides : - you have to be at the right file format, the right fps, the right codec etc... just make a step beside and it just do not read nothing... - the webcam via usb-c functionality works only if you use the Hyperdeck as a recorder. If you use it to play videos during a livesrream, boom... you lost the output program embedded in the webcam signal... - and the most unbelievable missing function : you have no display of the remaining time !! yes, this is supposed to be a digital player and you do not have the possibility to see the remaining time of the video you launch... crazy... Even the old Quicktime or VLC allows you to see it ! if you search for a video player for your livestreams forget Hyperdeck and use VLC or Playoutbee.
I have Adobe Premiere Elements (because I don't do this enough to justify the cost of Premiere Pro), which it's my understanding does NOT support ProRes. I have never been able to get a video put together in Premiere Elements to play on the Hyperdeck. Does anyone have any tips on how to get a video file put together in Premiere Elements to play on the Hyperdeck? They can play just fine on Playout Bee, which is great, but would love to also be able to do have them play on my Hyperdeck Mini as well!

Great advice for everyone who is even within an arms length from a Hyperdeck. These guys are really picky with their formats!
Agreed!

Perfect timing with seeing this video. I’ve been stuck at that brick wall.
Glad I could help!
Great basic foundations here for hyperdeck use! Thanks John.
Glad to help

Sticking with ProRes helps. MP4 almost never works. DNxHD/HR is really picky and hard to make work consistently.
There was talks of improving MP4 but I don't think that every made it into a fireware update

Not that I know of. We make a note of the end time and do quick mental math to have an idea of when we need to transition.

Strange - I believe all HyperDeck models support 4444 - Must be a slightly different file that you are generating - the HyperDecks are so very picky!

We had an issue once with files names, because we were using accents (àê) in the naming and the hyperdeck wouldn’t show the files.
Oh, that's an interesting one! Good to know!
Is there anyway to get audio out to a mixer? Thanks
You may need an audio deembedder for that.
Hello. Can I use my computer as a HyperDeck and connect to ATEM and play video files?
With PlayoutBee or Mitti you can emulate a HyperDeck

Adobe Media Encoder (I think that is what they call it) will work nicely!
