    As the owner of this Wildcat, it is a pleasure to watch Adam professionally put it through it's maneuvers. A joy actually... A couple of notes of my own. I installed the 6 gun barrels using copper tubing and black paint and added the top antenna. This was my first Banana Hobby purchase and had no problems as Adam mentioned. My other 4 product purchases (all warbirds) from Banana didn't and haven't gone so well. That's another story for another day. Thanks again Adam for your wonderful and detailed presentation!

    Adam, I'm all in for scale warbirds. Nothing wrong with flying nice and deliberate. There's too many other planes that fill the bill for speed. I've always admired Banana Hobby for their scale warbird offerings. Just never been tempted to pull the trigger because I always felt their quality of build was a little subpar. Thanks for giving us another look at this one. I enjoy your reviews. I like it when folks are straight up with review-- pointing out the good along with the not so good. :)

      Thanks for the kind words my friend! Glad you like our reviews...we will always shoot straight and give an honest opinion of our experience. Banana has always been kind of sketch...I've seen some issues for sure, but this plane worked well for us. Do have to fly it right though, but like you said...nothing wrong with that as long as it is capable of flying well.

    After getting into the RC hobby my very first Warbird I got was the Parkzone foam Wildcat. I was very reluctant because it didn't have flaps or landing gear (hand launch and belly land), but that plane has turned out to be my favorite. As a result I've developed a love for the Wildcat and anytime I see one I will always stop and look. Thanks for sharing!

      That is a great story Eric, thanks very much for watching! The PZ Wildcat was awesome...such a great flying plane. If the Blitz Wildcat flew that good it would be something for sure. I have a buddy John (Justwingit on YT) that has three or four of the PZ Wildcats...all this time and all the planes he has, and its still his favorite plane to fly ever. If you have time check our other videos out...new episodes every Monday. Thanks again for checking us out and the nice comment!

    Great channel! Nice videos, good piloting and no drama, very enjoyable. An interesting fact on the full scale F4F landing gear is that it is hand-cranked via chains and pulleys. This type of landing gear was previously used on the Grumman FF, F2F, F3F and the amphibious J2F Duck. It takes 28 turns to get the gear either up or down, so no need for slow motion film on the full sized ones... :-)

Funny you should mention that...I tried to put the gear part in slow motion in one of the take off sequences, and it went up in less than a frame! Nice Job.
    Thank you for the video.
    Have you ever documented your plane set up method?
    Not the mechanical linkage set up. I am thinking more on the radio mixing and switch assignment.
    Maybe how you run through the checks on the first few test flights and the subsequent adjustments.
    I was interested in some of your go to set ups…including maybe knife edge mixing…which mixes are on the “normal flight mode”..which ones are delegated to specific switches…etc.
    I like the scale aerobatic flying style with an occasional deviation to 3D. I have two Precision Aerobatics Katana 52s to scratch my 3D itch.
    But the set up on the Pitts ..or scale aerobatic planes are way different of course.
    Just a thought. I know you probably have a number of video ideas and limited time to produce the videos.
    Mike

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  2 года назад +1

      Michael thats an idea we've thought about...a few other viewers have asked about that as well. They would have to be per type...I fly so many different things. Our Corsair video is on our first day at the field with it...how we test and the first stages of setting up a warbird.
      I'm not a switch flipper usually. I tend to use mixes that are subtle enough to stay active without adversely affecting other aspects of flight. With a knife edge mix on a 3D plane - a really good airframe that is balanced correctly shouldn't need a drastic mix. With my 3D planes I just leave the knife edge mix on. Doesn't affect anything else really and if it does its so little I'm correcting for it without really thinking about it. We actually have a 3D video in the works...will come out within a few weeks. I'll make sure I go over the knife edge mix.
      Thanks for watching and supporting us we really appreciate it!

    Great looking warbird and flying AV8R. Thanks for an honest review on a warbird I've thought of owning. The VERY small battery hatch, the lack of a spar, and the lack of ability to slow down the retracts are negatives why I will give it a pass.

    What a fantastic presentation my brother! Absolutely wonderful production, editing, etc., etc., etc. NOW...on to the plane. Thanks for both enticing me to buy this model (I AM quite the F4F Wildcat fan boy, as some may know....), and also serving to remind me why I never pulled the trigger on this, despite it being out for five years or more. Too many weird things going on for my tastes, but that's just me. I honestly think, and given that I haven't flown this particular model, that the now decade old PZ F4F would perform just as well on it's puny little 3 cell, and this is probably a result of weight more than anything - even though the watts per pound are pretty comparable. Then again, you may have been taking it easy on the throttle, and I might have found myself firewalling my little PZ F4F just to keep up. All of that said, I think the scale take-offs were an absolute delight to watch as you gently climbed out, and the landings were absolute GREASE!!! Like a butterfly with sore feet! Heidi did excellent tracking that model...and YES, that camo WORKS as intended! All the best to you and Heidi and I'm looking forward to your next installment!!!

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  2 года назад

      Thanks for watching and commenting! The flight characteristics aren't for everybody for sure. If the folding wings are something you'd give up a drill and a couple of small carbon rods would do the trick. The wings obviously don't just flex, but twist somewhat to cause a bit of a roll one way or the other. I think two carbon rods/tubes maybe 3 or 4 inches in both ways in two places would get rid of the twist.

    Great review and great flying. (especially great landings!) I have one of these, and I have found it to fly very well. It seems to be a very stable design with its dihedral and weight distribution. I had to carve out a bit of foam in the battery hatch to make things easier. From the start I felt that the complex wing hinge might not do very well in a high G load. So I have limited mine to about 3 Gs. (Ha.) Thus, I have not had any wing flex / twist issues. I enjoy your reviews / information very much. Thanks - Jolly Roger.

    Nice flying with a tricksy aircraft, Adam! It's a lovely model and the engineering in that undercarriage is so cool. Does the fact that it has foldaway wings have an impact on its 'flyability'? It would seem so. Maybe if they'd done something with storing and transporting the model like E-flite have done with the 1.5m Mustang & Fw190 and their removable wing tips, it would surely fly better? But, it is pretty nifty like it is!

      Thank you Gina! Yes mam it would definitely fly better with more rigid wings. I do like the challenge with it though! The folding wings are a neat scale feature...that is exactly how the wings folded up on the actual Wildcat so they could store them better on a carrier.

    I've eyed this one for a while now but have been hesitant after not being too.pleased with previous planes from Banana Hobby. They always seemed to be on the cheap side and lacking quality. And while you flew this one well, I would be concerned about the wing flex and snapping one if something happened and I tried to save it. Think I would have to forget the folding wing to install a spar. Thanks for the video, the plane looks great.

Banana has always been a bit suspect...which is why there is a subtle surprised tone in my voice when I said this one has been no problem and everything works...lol. I think you'd have to really get crazy to break the wing in flight...if thats even possible (could be), but a drastic hard pull might put it in more trouble than you're trying to get out of in the first place. I understand the thought of just permanently stiffening it.

Think it's so cool for it's options but battery compartment, stiff gear, no spar just means it would be (a nice one) hanger queen for me. It just wouldn't last long with me on the sticks.

      Sleeved on both sides, into the fuslage and wing, give as much travel as needed to stiffen said wing. The big problem is, I have ocd about how things

    • @ModelAV8RChannel

      Good idea in concept. I think the issue is more of a twisting flex than a up and down flex...which would explain the sudden turns in an abrupt higher G pull. The attach points for the two wing pieces is the hinge (forward) and the pin (centerish) . I think a second pin that works the same way, but placed more to the trailing edge of the wing would prevent the twist and solve the problem.
