    Adam, once again you do a wonderful and complete review of a model. I've watched your review of the FMS 1400mm Pitts and the Avanti. It's true that these planes are good flyers but you show how a good flying planes can be great flying planes. Thank you for taking the time for these great review/set-up vids. • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  2 года назад

      Thanks Tony! Some of the foamy warbirds do fly like trainers, and some actually are. The Flightline 1.6m series fly kind of in between a simpler foamy and a built up balsa bird. They are heavier than your average EPO warbird but still lighter than most balsa warbirds the same size. They fly really well, but not for a novice.

    Without question the best RC flight review I've ever seen. Your narration and setup info is invaluable. I just finished assembling my Bubble top Corsair 1600 and installing an AR 620 rx and will be setting it up on my DX9 Black. Just wondering if you could save me the tedium of guessing the %'s and measuring/remeasuring the throws by providing the %s you settled on for ail, ele, rud and flaps(including ele mix) on your DX9 as a starting point I could use for maiden. Like you, I prefer my warbirds a touch nose heavy and added the additional weights to the cowl. Thanks for the superlative video. Eagerly looking forward to more.

    Really good stuff AV8R. I've always liked these "bigger" foam Corsairs. Limited selection anyway. I think my favorite is the elusive and rarely seen birdcage edition :). I just like "different". For now I have the fms 800mm 3s setup, 7×5, 25a.
    Nice commentary on your set up and evaluation. Overall video layout, start/finish, is good. It seemed like a good flight time but ballast means : larger battery :). Hey I thought your first landing was better than most of mine 😂. AirHammer out!!

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  2 года назад

      Hey AirHammer! Thanks buddy we appreciate the kind words! We have a ton of 6s 6000's so that is what we used. All the way forward and still needed the B word lol. My take is ballast isn't useless weight if it makes the plane fly good, but yeah you're right...if a bigger pack can make the difference thats the way to go if you have em'. We get a 8 min flight time and could go another minute probably. Great plane!

    This was my year to try the large scale Flightline warbirds. P-38, then the Spitfire and within a week of maidening the Spitfire I bought the Corsair. In my humble and worthless opinion, this is as good as it gets with prop driven warbirds. I just wish now I would’ve bought just one a couple years ago. Corsair isn’t the easiest to takeoff due to the prop torque, but once it’s in the air it’s as stable as they come. No need for stability or gyro. This is your “Windy Day” plane. (Or the 1600mm Spitfire)

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  2 года назад +1

      I agree Jeff, in my opinion the Flightline 1.6m series are the best foamy Warbirds on the market today. I particularly like the two single engine planes..they are perfectly powered for truly mimicking their full scale counterparts. I've owned the P-38 and OV-10...both fly great, but the OV-10 is under powered for my taste. Glad you like your Warbirds! Bigger truly flies better. Thanks for watching and commenting!

      @@ModelAV8RChannel I’m thinking a 3 months ago- because of the size, it’s only one of the three of the 1600mm’s per trip to the field, so I’m guessing I went three straight days. The last day was the 1200mm Flightline Spitfire and the 1600 Corsair. Other than an aborted takeoff with the Corsair, it was a stress-free, straight and level day.
      I stood there thinking- “6 years ago, when I got into this expensive sport, this is what I thought it was going to be like. Not having to be an electrical engineer figuring out mah, charge rates, cells, and volts. Not having to be a master craftsman with 6 types of glue, figuring out metic system, and foam repair.” The final thought after landing the Corsair on the last of 3 batteries was, “If Jesus returned, got into this sport, he’d fly nothing but Flightline large scale.”

I would like to see on your next shoot where you talk through exactly what you are doing (throttle settings, elevator control, flap settings, etc.) on takeoff and setting up for a landing. Have you gone through any landing gear retracts yet? That seems to be the weakest part of this plane. I've folded a few retracts on landings that were not much harder than what was on the video. Thanks for watching, subbing, and the kind words! The extensions are 100mm 8 pin JST XH female connector on both sides, with additional JST XH male connectors included. We plugged a male connector in on one side, glued it, and put heat shrink on it. We couldn't find any with female on one side and male on the other. Thanks again, and happy flying!

    Great video, any idea how this compares to the FMS 1700?

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  2 года назад

      Thank you very much and thanks for watching! I've only flown the 1700 a few times...and it was a buddy's older version. It flew very well. It was under powered in my opinion, and thats what has been reported by others from what I've seen of the new version as well. The Flightline is pretty much perfectly powered for my scale flying with it. They are different versions as well - the FMS is a F4U-4 and the FL is a F4U-1D. I would say whichever version you like they both fly well. For me if I had the FMS I'd have to up the power a bit. The FL power is fine to me right out of the box. Hope this is helpful! Happy flying!

      I’ll probably go for the flight line, I’ve also heard the FMS is slow. Plus 1700 starts to get a little tough to transport.

    What a cool plane! I was wondering if it’s super well behaved on the ground or if you were just making it look easy haha. Also, did you find the top speed to be satisfactory? I’ve heard the FMS version of the big Corsair is a bit slower than some would like on 6s. Really enjoying your format, with the calm commentary laid over the live video and sound. Looking forward to more,

    • @ModelAV8RChannel

      Thank you very much! We are glad you are here to watch! Nice to hear folks liking the longer video format. They won't all be long ones, but it's nice to know when we do a long one you like it! The Corsair handles like a typical warbird on the ground...its big so not as twitchy as a smaller one, but a big prop and lots of P factor. Gotta use the rudder for sure.

  • @corsairsmitty5438

    What percentage of throttle were you landing at ? I have heard that you need to keep in about 25% throttle to land correctly. Seems high and hot for landing. I do have one of these, and have had some issues due to pilot error.

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  Год назад +1

      I don't know for sure, I just use enough by feel. With the majority of warbirds that have gear/flaps, when you get them dirty with gear and flaps down you need to add throttle on approach. None of them that I've flown land power off in that configuration. I would get it up high and dirty, and practice a few stalls. See what it looks like that slow, then start adding a bit of power and getting used to it in slow flight. You're basically going for a controlled approach. You fly it down into ground effect, then slowly back off the power, let it settle, and flare or round it out. The slower you can fly it in to ground effect, the less runway you'll need. Practicing slow flight with it in landing configuration will help you achieve this.

    Great video, I just picked one up after watching my friend Steve fly his at the field a few times. Initially the plane did not impress me, it flew nice and looked good but was "Scale" in flight leaving both Steve and I wishing it had just a bit more top end and oomph. I did some research and found that the plane was using the 5055-340Kv motor and that there was a direct fit 5055-390Kv motor that could be used. He dropped in a 100 amp esc and the new 5055-390Kv motor and the plane came to life! Tons of power and top end speed to where you didn't feel like you were riding it full throttle the entire flight just to be happy with the performance! When you do go full throttle it will definitely move out now and honestly feels like it should have come this way from the start! Regardless I'm working on mine now and as I did with the 1400mm Pitts V2 I'll take your advice on the settings for this one as well. Thanks again for the great video and content! Looking forward to putting mine in the sky real soon! Link for the motor: www.motionrc.com/products/flightline-5055-390kv-brushless-motor-mo1505501 Thanks again, Rob

      Hey Rob, thanks man for the kind words! I know a lot of guys want these to go faster, and seems like you guys have that figured out! For me, I really like the scale performance. To me, and this is just my take, but I like that it comes by at a more realistic clip, rather than screaming by like a jet, but then has the power on the low end to still climb and make big, scale looking maneuvers. I will admit though...everything looks kinda cool when its haulin' A too! Lol.

    • @RSchwara1
      @RSchwara1 Год назад +1

      @@ModelAV8RChannel Well with the motor and esc upgrade the speed isn't crazy train or anything like that and you can still fly nice and scale but its just great to have that power in reserve for high speed low pass over the runway. If you saw it and felt the difference I'm sure you would agree. It's not over the top but just right. :)
