How can you not love the joy and enthusiasm this team is experiencing, pretty fun to watch the team nerd out, not to mention what an awesome plane! "Props" to Angry Zeppelin!
originally a carrier based plane. The window was likely to help an already nose high a/c (hence the full wings because of the massive engine and prop) taxi on deck but most importantly to see the wake and the fantail of the ship to cut throttles and land.
“Stay, stay!” So it’s not just me then! These Flightline planes are awesome. Their engineering and quality are excellent. I’m due for another one soon. This one’s just getting a bit big for transport. Great video.
I looked it up. The Corsair had the little window to aid in carrier landings. Many times, the Marines would replace them with sheet metal as not being usable. They were NOT used in bombing.
Since I was a kid I wanted a gas-powered R/C Helicopter. Now at 57 thank's to watching your videos. I want to get into the hobby more than ever... You guys really make it look like so much fun to build or put together one of these planes. Going to be doing a lot of research. I have no idea of where or what company to start with. Who would you guys recommend? Just love the video's that you guys put together. Showing how to build and operate the planes and go into great detail. Awesome job guys. Glad to be a subscriber.
The cockpits in the early Corsairs had no floor. They had two foot rails, and beyond that you looked right through to the bottom of the fuselage. There really wasn’t a reason NOT to put a window there. The belly was never armored in any of the Corsairs except for the final AU-1 model that was optimized for low level ground attack. The belly window wasn’t a camera a port. It was strictly for increased pilot visibility. It was standard up through the F4U-1A model, and was replaced with a sheet metal panel from the F4U-1D onward.
Some corsairs were modified to conduct reconnaissance missions over the Pacific theater, especially marine squadrons who were largely isolated. The window is likely for a recon camera
As far as I know, only the early models of the Corsair had the belly window, which would not include the D model or Bubble Canopy model. So, it's not really accurate for this model of the aircraft but is still cool!
It is very difficult to get definite descriptions and specs on most WWII aircraft. Or any military aircraft. The same model could vary depending on: Who built it. Which factory it was built at. Which contract block it was. And some went to modification depots before going to their units. And the Corsair remained in production after WWII into the mid 1950s. It was built for the French to use in its Indo-China war.
The window is a copy from the JU87 Stuka as this had a window for dive bombing. The Corsair was a ground support machine like the Stuka. Interestingly the cranked wings are also similar to the Stuka. Excellent review of this Model.
Berkay a lot of the WW2 aircraft had gun cameras on them not that they where used all the time and some of the faster planes had area’s built in for reconnaissance cameras planes back then had to be more flexible in there missions capabilities than today’s aircraft
The scale outline of the plane impresses me the most. They got it right by my eye. That is one of the best Corsairs that I've seen straight out of the box. The outline is right, and they got the color right too. Most times, the color is off, usually too light. I don't care for the stick-on decals. You're much better off taking the time and masking and spraying on the markings rather than use those stick-on decals. It's worth the effort. From the close ups, you can clearly see the edge of the stickers and bubbling underneath. Yeah, don't use those. The big 3-blade prop up front looks great. Scale warbirds have come a long way in the 25 years I've been involved in the hobby. What used to be where if you wanted a warbird that good looking, it was many hours in the shop building. Now you can go from box to flying in just a couple days. I still prefer a quality stick built warbird that I've built with my own hands, but these foam jobs are impressive. I'll pick one up but then put my own touches on it. Yes, the first early Corsair variants had an observation window on the belly of the plane. It appears they got that wrong with this model, as the belly window should not be on -1D variant. I believe the window was for observation when bombing as the Corsair was also a formidable ground support aircraft, not just an air-to-air fighter. In fact, it may have excelled more in ground support than in dog fighting. As for your comment about getting shot through the window - The skin of a fighter plane was paper thin, so it wouldn't matter if it was plexiglass or thin sheet aluminum. The bullet is gonna get you either way. :P As stated though, the observation window was removed in later Corsair variants. As for the model, its an easy fix, just paint over the window if you don't want it. The -1D had the bubble canopy with no upper frame braces. So, the model is correct there. You could make the model into a '-1A' variant simply by painting the two upper frame braces on the canopy. Impressive model, no doubt!
"Long time listener, first time caller". Question: I'm a retired AF pilot - not a hobby pilot so completely ignorant. But there's a sequence of events when you have a test airplane, like taxi, high speed taxi, take-off followed by immediate landing etc. Do you guys ever try things like that? I'm only asking because it's heartbreaking to see the crashes on initial takeoff etc. Just asking. (PS - you guys produce a great/high quality product - you'll have lots of viewers soon.)
You can do all that....most of us....screw on balls...maiden it....there are two types of rc pilots....ones who have crashed and ones that are going too.
The F4U was NOT designed as a close support fighter for the Marines. It was designed for the Navy, for carrier use. But the U.S. Navy was having trouble getting it carrier qualified. So many pilots were killing themselves that it became known as "The Bent Winged Widow Maker." So it was handed down to the Marines for use on land bases. It replaced the Corps old Wildcats so they were thrilled with it, to say the least. The Navy, of course, eventually worked out the carrier landing issues. But it wasn't designed for the Marines.
Wow how sad that we think this is a kit, missing out on so much by not actually building and learning as you go now its snap together and go. Oh well at least it keeps the hobby going and people happy, it's funny how we complain about missing details and quality when you could have done it your self, happy flying!! AWESOME AIRPLANE
use to be an old saying.."slow boat from China"..and 6 weeks to receive from supplier must have been agonizing...beautiful plane and your work shop is so well organized and spotless..u deserve a sub..thanks for taking the time to show this iconic war bird..one of the prettiest i think..
Does this have a hard shell over the foam? Can it be dented with a fingernail per say? I'm new to the planes, so I'm not sure of their make up. I'm very impressed with its looks and the retracts too. I guess I'm just worried about quality, but I'm really curious about how durable the outside surface is, knowing this mostly styrofoam? Thanks for the great video!
Just got done Machining an entire of squad P40. All of them are 2,550 MM of aluminum, Now working on the last of my mustang 2,500 MM. And yes all of them are remote control fully operational. Want to see hit me up
need to replace to foam wheel, its worn out. i removed the hex screw at the bottom of the gear strut, but still cant get that thing out.... any tips???
Only the -1 birdcage Corsair had the bombing window on the bottom...it was deleted on all subsequent models...funny that they chose to include it on this model..
So after watching this video I started to look at some of your others, like that Storch Build Off. Isn't this guy the one who says "Mo powah mo betah? His face at 14:59 looks like he just crapped his pants. That is a great looking plane though, I want to see a side by side with this and that large scale Mitchel you did a while back. Can't wait for the maiden. Good luck.
Thanks for your support Karl. We are all looking forward to the maiden but weather here is making it hard to get out and fly some of these larger models; our runway is covered in snow. Wyatt's already talking about grabbing a shovel to clear that issue but we do need it warm enough to get consistent performance from our batteries. Fingers crossed that next week is 70 and sunny rather than 18 and overcast.
The F4U Corsair is a sublime and beautiful warbird. The company that made this rather impressive toy could pack their "gift" with recyclable or compostable newspaper or anything but styrofoam (not recyclable). Recycle, compost or die.
F,Y,I . The Window was there on all Navy Carrier based variants to help the pilot judge distance and height but most importantly it's there for the pilot to see when he's crossed the threshold and is over the deck so he can Cut Power when landing on the pitching deck of an Aircraft Carrier . Think about it in these terms landing on an Aircraft Carrier is akin to a Controll'd crash landing , But it's Definitely * ! * Not a Bomb Site * ! * LoL * ! *
Pretty expensive for a ARTF but as it comes with all servos etc fitted I don't think it's so bad? Love the look of childish glee on his face as he runs it up on the bench.
Happy for you, hopefully it's in the air now and you're having some fun. However, for me, this is not a build. At least half of the fun for me was building from kit or scratch. Nothing like being able to say I actually built it as opposed to unboxed it.
That thing is so big that you probably need a pilot's license to fly it with. Holly crap. Nice plane. Pappy Boyington flew that plane. It was a Marine Corps air craft. How do I know. I was in the Marine Corps.
How can you not love the joy and enthusiasm this team is experiencing, pretty fun to watch the team nerd out, not to mention what an awesome plane! "Props" to Angry Zeppelin!
I love the laughs, guys, this hobby is all about having fun! I'm glad you like our bird.

Apart from the joy you will no doubt get flying this beast! The first joy is in receiving and the unboxing!
You guys are so funny, we can feel the excitement and that’s what this wonderful hobby is all about. Great looking shop mate. Keep them coming!
When I was a kid I put together several fighter plane models from a German tri-plane to a F16 but the Corsair was always my favorite.
FlightLine did a good job packing that. Nice to see they care.
originally a carrier based plane. The window was likely to help an already nose high a/c (hence the full wings because of the massive engine and prop) taxi on deck but most importantly to see the wake and the fantail of the ship to cut throttles and land.
Couldn't have put it better myself
My grandfather flew those in the war I got a picture of him and his plane
Always had a balsa which took forever , that was the fun in the winter . I would try this just to get flying !
I laughed a lot and was happy for you both.
Your joy was palpable and spread 😊 Great video, great plane, great team 🙏🏻 Grüße aus Deutschland.
If U get a small sewing needle U can poke a tiny hole in the air bubbles in the stickers and rub them right out
“Stay, stay!” So it’s not just me then! These Flightline planes are awesome. Their engineering and quality are excellent. I’m due for another one soon. This one’s just getting a bit big for transport. Great video.

Your enthusiasm is contagious now I want one
Beautiful plane. I'm more a balsa guy. Foam is not my thing, but still bought a fox glider 3000mm from FMS 6s. 😀🇳🇱. 15:25 welcome to the hobby
I've just taken delivery of mine. It is indeed a beautiful plane and well made. All I have to do now is buy a radio set and learn how to fly it.
That's funny, buying first. Just like i started with no idea😀🇳🇱
Hopefully this isn't your first RC plane as it would be a bi$ch to learn on
Pappy Boyington would be proud to see this beautiful model!
Nice plane. I like the glow and gas better but this seems neat.
never had much money as a kid but i used to build the Guillows kits
That gear cycle time seems about right to scale.
Since I was a kid I wanted a gas-powered R/C Helicopter. Now at 57 thank's to watching your videos. I want to get into the hobby more than ever... What a wunderfull F4 U but i need to wait a little before i can buy this beautifull bird.
Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. built these for WWII. The folding wing design allowed them to be stored in an aircraft carrier.

I really need to try a Flightline warbird. They seem pretty impressive.
You guys scare the ba' gee bees out of me with your hands and body parts right in front of that 18 inch blade while everything is active. Geeezzz!
You should watch the one of Wyatt doing the Cherokee!
The bubble canopy gave you a 360° view with out the need for reinforcements
Oh my goodness! Love it! your face at the end. So pumped
Thank you guys, that is probably how my face is every time I fly this bird!
Some corsairs were modified to conduct reconnaissance missions over the Pacific theater, especially marine squadrons who were largely isolated. The window is likely for a recon camera
If you know battle field 5 that game had an upgrade for the new corsair a bubble top
As far as I know, only the early models of the Corsair had the belly window, which would not include the D model or Bubble Canopy model. So, it's not really accurate for this model of the aircraft but is still cool!
Thank you, it is awesome to know that the earlier models, like the F4U-1A had the window. That is an really cool little detail they added.

Great plane and video, I wish my shop was a clean and neat as yours. Really enjoyed video, thanks for sharing.
I'm pretty sure the window area was also to house camera gear to photograph enemy strong holds and such.
The window is a copy from the JU87 Stuka as this had a window for dive bombing. The Corsair was a ground support machine like the Stuka. Interestingly the cranked wings are also similar to the Stuka. Excellent review of this Model.
Thanks for the awesome feedback david!
Nice and cool plane, but how much will you spend to buy that RC plane like corsair?
Nice workshop
Awesome plane. Corsair my favorite prop plane
What scale is it, please? Can one build it as a static model, highly detailed as so sizeable a replica would allow?
Thanks guys. Great informative video. Have to get one now. An early Christmas present.
The window on the bottom might be for a variant for reconnaissance cameras
There was small circular glass panels for the cameras in most of the planes
Berkay a lot of the WW2 aircraft had gun cameras on them not that they where used all the time and some of the faster planes had area’s built in for reconnaissance cameras planes back then had to be more flexible in there missions capabilities than today’s aircraft

How long did this take to build?
Push pull cable is lighter and more reliable regarding binding in an exotic plane like this is it made in China ?
Build? Looks like your shop area is a bit overkill for assembling foam electric rtf airplanes.
I noticed a Seabees decal on the wall behind you. were you in the Seabees?
this and the supermarine are some of the beautiful planes in WW2...and the B25 / P38 for multi engines...great video...
That’s serious power!
The F-4U was designed to be a close air support attack aircraft for the Marine Corps.

real nice how much does the plane cost??? please let me know and who makes it??

Subscribed! 👍🍻
need to replace to foam wheel, its worn out. i removed the hex screw at the bottom of the gear strut, but still cant get that thing out.... any tips???
The window was deleted in th eA1 and D models.
Window is a good place for you to put a camera
That is a rilly nice Airplane! You shood make a video of you flying it!!!!!!!
We did...
Guys, that's absolutely sick wow. nice job
Excellent video and build review gents. Very well done.

Okay how many ounces is the plane
Did you measure distance diagonally airalons and rudder before maidon flight ?
Any idéal about the titre of the music starting a-t-il 10:45 ? The.
Window is useless for bombing since by the time the bombs not you're miles down range.
I'm pretty sure the window was for photo recon.
She was a mid/long range with extra tanks for reconnaissance
Love your videos they have a lot good information
Thanks for letting us know!
Who’s the SeaBee? Or is that just a sticker/patch?
My grandfather. Man the story's he told us.... Using bulldozers buckets to shield troops from gunfire on airfields. Super proud of my grandpa!
Excellent video and review! New sub here, I hope you have many more on the way you deserve it

Historically correct on the belly window or not, personally I'd be adding my own recon camera!
Great videos! Where did you get those awesome storage cabinets ???
Its beautiful
This was fun. Us men don't need much to make us happy. Lovely aircraft.
Oh, my god is so big!
That's what she said!
wish I was you , wow plane will be watching!
A huge very tidy workshop but I just need to ask why? Your model is virtually built
