will, love your cooking. Next time you cook Whiting try this with fish 12" or larger. Fillet them and rinse in salt water. Then poach the filets in a dry white wine/butter/fresh fins herbs...nothing else. serve with good sourdough toasted and garlic butter. California has a fish identical to whiting called Corbina...my dad and I fished for them for years....that's one way we cooked them.

Aloha. There’s another local recipe kinda similar but not, if that makes any sense? Whole fish, usually uhu, scaled, scored, rubbed in mayonnaise, salt, pepper, garlic, ginger, cilantro, scallions, lemongrass, and lop chong(Chinese sausage), then wrapped in foil and baked or thrown on the grill. It works.

Magnolia pier... haven't heard that name in a long time. When I lived in Freeport I'd play hockey at midnight then go over to the pier to fill a bucket of herring. Nice you can get down south to do some winter fishing. Waiting for the rivers to freeze up here in Maine to get buckets of smelts for winter fishing here. Caught similar types of fish off the beaches of OBX and the whiting are tasty. As a NYer, though, when you hear whiting, you think smoked and put on a bagel with a smhear. Thanks for posting!

Whiting are delicious! A lot of my friends go after them here in the northeast. I purchase them all the time in the supermarket and just deep fry 'em. Haven't been there in years. Another good one Will.

Love...love...love surf fishing! It's a lot of fun reading the beach and catching fish. Beach walkers and goers get drawn to people fishing. It wonderful passing on what I've learned through the years and watching someone catch fish. Totally recommend hitting the beach and casting out a line. I've also learned that a good rod and reel are key to landing fish. Last bit of knowledge...always bring at least 3 different baits. One can work one day and not the next. Great job Will...keep exploring and trying new things, the spice of life!
